Welcome to a special Christmas morning edition of the President's Daily Brief.
I'm Mike Baker. Your eyes and ears on the world stage.
As we wake to the joy and celebration of Christmas morning,
we're reminded of the enduring spirit of community, generosity, and hope.
We reflect on the year's challenges and the strength that we found
in coming together at times to overcome them.
It's a time for gratitude, for family, and for reaching out to those in need,
embodying the season's giving spirit.
As we gathered to celebrate this Christmas season,
I was thinking back to the messages that were delivered by some of our past leaders.
Their words, steeped in hope and compassion, resonate throughout the years,
urging us to reflect on the deeper meaning of the holiday season.
President Franklin Roosevelt, during times of great challenge,
saw Christmas as a beacon of unity and strength.
His words during World War II offered comfort and resolve,
encouraging us to find light even in the darkest of times.
He reminded us of our shared humanity and the unyielding spirit that binds us together.
Woodrow Wilson, also leading the nation through tumultuous times, spoke of peace and the role of each individual in fostering a world free from conflict and strife.
His Christmas messages were beacons of hope, urging nations and people to walk the path of understanding and cooperation.
President Reagan spoke of Christmas as a time of joy and music.
he reminded us of the true essence of the holiday, a celebration of love, peace, and goodwill towards all.
In these moments, we find a call to renew our commitment to these ideals, not only in words, but hopefully through our actions.
And a man whose leadership, courage and spirit, I've always admired greatly, Winston Churchill, came to visit with President Roosevelt in 1941, shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
He said that, quote,
here in the midst of war, raging and roaring over lands and seas, creeping nearer to our hearts and homes,
here amid all the tumult, we have tonight the peace of the spirit in each home and in every generous heart.
Churchill continued to encourage, saying, may we cast aside for this night at least the cares and dangers which beset us,
and make for the children an evening of happiness in a world of storm, end quote.
this Christmas, let's draw from their wisdom, remembering that our celebrations are not just a time of joy, but also an opportunity to reflect on our responsibilities towards each other. Let's embrace the spirit of giving and compassion, and maybe, just maybe, these values can guide us into the new year. May this Christmas inspire us to build a world where goodwill prevails. And let's all do what we can, to make for all children, as Churchill said, an evening of
happiness in a world of storm. And finally, on this day, let us also holding our thoughts and
extend our deepest thanks to all those brave service members far from home, and our first responders
whose sacrifices allow us to enjoy this festive season safely. Their dedication and service,
well, that's the greatest gift to our nation, and we should be ever grateful. And that, my friends,
is the President's Daily Brief for today, Monday,
5th December. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I'm Mike Baker, and I'll be back tomorrow.
Until then, stay informed. Stay safe. Stay cool.
