Starting point is 00:00:03 It's October 4th. You're listening to the President's Daily Brief. I'm your host and former CIA Officer Brian Dean Wright. Your morning intel starts now. First up, America's kids are being offered cash from Mexican cartels to transport illegal migrants, both across the border and once they get inside the country. We're going to talk about how much the cartels are paying our kids and how they are being recruited from across America. As always, I'm keeping an eye out for developing stories. Put this one on your radar. The Biden administration just adopted looser rules for wind farms. They're actually allowing operators to kill eagles with the wind blades. But don't ask how many birds they are allowed to kill because that is secret law enforcement information, apparently. Details coming up.
Starting point is 00:00:53 And as always, a listener question with today's focus on how the common man and common woman in Europe are handling the energy crisis. And today, we are going to talk about a good old-fashioned, Irish pub. But first, let's get started with today's main brief. The immigration debate continues to rage this week. We got new data over the weekend showing 600,000 godaways who illegally crossed the border and are now living somewhere in America. That's on top of the two million illegals arrested by border agents, illegals, of course, that are sometimes released into our country or otherwise deported back to Mexico, where data tell us that most just try to cross over again. But what often goes unreported is how the Mexican cartels are organizing some of this human
Starting point is 00:01:39 trafficking by using America's kids. So this morning we are going to tell that story, in part because it is so important for all of us to know exactly how the cartels are using our kids and to recognize the warning signs so that maybe you can protect a child in your life. So let's start with this. moving illegal migrants across our southern border is big business and i mean big according to the department of of homeland security investigations the total is now 13 billion dollars a year that's up from 500 million in 2018 and we should really stop for a second and take that in so let me repeat it Mexican cartels are now making over $13 billion a year, far more than just four years ago. So the cartels making so much money, they can afford to pay big amounts of cash to those willing to help them.
Starting point is 00:02:39 Specifically, they need to move illegals either across the border or move them from one city to another once they get inside the country. But who should they recruit as drivers and how should they recruit them? Well, according to the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the governors of Texas and Arizona, plus county sheriffs along the border like Cochise County in Arizona, the Mexican cartels are going after America's kids. The only requirement that they look for is a driver's license. So here's how it's working. Cartel members are using social media and video games to identify potential teen drivers.
Starting point is 00:03:19 With the video games, the cartels will join online multiplayer games like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. Meanwhile, on social media, they'll interact with teen profiles on Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and Facebook. So investigators say that at first, the cartel members will keep it conversational, casual, non-alerting. The goal is to become a friend, just like all groomers. Well, in some cases, they'll ask the teen to move the conversation offline into the real world. That's what happened to a young woman in Phoenix about a year ago, who met up with someone that she thought was a fellow video game player at a coffee shop, but it was actually a cartel member. The same thing happened with a 16-year-old young man in Cochise County, Arizona after he was approached on a social media platform. Now, both of those kids were met by cartel members who initially hid their affiliation.
Starting point is 00:04:18 But over time, they asked the kids if they wanted to make some fast money, helping these poor, desperate migrants. Now, exactly how much these kids were offered, it fluctuates based on the time of year and the exact task. But here's the range, according to the Department of Homeland Security and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office. If a child driver is going to move the illegals across the border from Mexico, they can net $16,000 for a day of, work. If it's just moving illegals within the United States, you know, from city to city, they can get anywhere from $500 to $2,500 per illegal. So you can see how that kind of money might motivate a young person or really any person. But I want to emphasize something. These teen drivers aren't just from Arizona, like the two examples that I mentioned. Sheriff's offices
Starting point is 00:05:13 are arresting kids from as far away as New Jersey who've driven down to the border to make money. But regardless, once an American teen expresses interest in being a mule or driving what's called the load car, the cartel member starts a training process. Now specifically, they teach the kids how to evade capture or deal with American law enforcement if they're caught. For instance, kids are told to drive at very high, very dangerous speeds to avoid or lose cops once discovered. And the cartels teach this because they know that correctly many cops will back off to slow down the chase out of fear that the kids will crash, either killing themselves or crashing to innocent drivers. Now, the cartels also tell the kids that if they're caught,
Starting point is 00:05:59 they won't be prosecuted because they are a minor. Now, that is incorrect, of course, but the kids don't know that. Still, these young men and women only get paid if they deliver the illegals or drugs in some cases to the proper destination. Now, usually that's a safe house in a nearby city, sometimes an isolated rendezvous point. But either way, they get cash or sometimes cryptocurrencies. But unfortunately, some kids never arrive at their destination with the illegals. That's because they're getting into accidents or they're getting killed. Last year, that 16-year-old boy that I mentioned earlier,
Starting point is 00:06:36 he was smuggling illegals throughout Southern Arizona. And the cops were onto him. So he was racing through an intersection in the town of Sierra Vista. He was going over 100 miles an hour, and he struck another vehicle driven by an area grandma who was named Wanda Satoski. She was on her way to meet her son for her 65th birthday, and she didn't make it. She died in that accident. The driver, the boy and the two illegals with him, all survived.
Starting point is 00:07:07 This past summer, another teen driver in Southern Arizona did the same thing. Blue past spikes in the road that a sheriff's office had laid down to stop. stop him. Instead, he crossed into an intersection at a very high speed and killed the driver of another vehicle passing through. And like the case that I just mentioned, the teen survived that wreck, and so too did the illegals. Finally, that teen girl from Phoenix that I mentioned earlier, she got caught with 130 pounds of meth in her car, no illegals in this case. The cartel member from the video game that groomed her, well, he disappeared. And now she, is being prosecuted.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Sheriff's departments on the border are growing increasingly despondent over how to stop this. In the last six months, in just that one county in southern Arizona, Cochise County, officers have recorded close to 600 smuggling events with American kids in high-speed pursuits. So here's what Cochise County Sheriff Mark Danyls told investigators, quote, social media is our enemy, end quote. He went on to say that cartels. can recruit these kids from many, many states away, and if the kids get caught, the cartel members just disappear, and they limit their exposure. So, folks, that's one more element to this
Starting point is 00:08:27 southern border crisis, and it wraps up the facts and data for this morning's main brief. And as we now pivot to analysis and opinion, I'd like to leave you with three thoughts. First, this story, like so many that we hear about, makes a pretty convincing case that we have functional southern border. It's now almost a speed bump for cartels and illegals who are pretty happy to just jump over it. And one fact makes this clear. Cartels are collecting $13 billion a year to cross with illegal migrants. So folks, you can decide which politician or party is most responsible for what I think is a pretty clear case of a failed border and you might want to vote accordingly in November. Second, our understanding of cartel networks has to change. Their support structure isn't just a
Starting point is 00:09:22 shady character operating a safe house or stashing illegals or drugs. Well, that network now includes some American kids, too. They're seduced by cartel members, it's true, who are very happy to take advantage. Finally, that means that we should be warning America's teens. They should be on the lookout for online approaches by people promising friendship. and then just a simple job or easy money, of course, just to help out the poor migrants. They should know about this story and parents should alert them to it. Better yet, America's parents and guardians might want to redouble their focus on paying very close attention to what their kids are doing online via social media or video games.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Because what we now know is that if parents aren't watching very closely and having these conversations, some of the world's most disgusting people will take notice and not just pedophiles or robbers, but now we can add Mexican cartels to the list too. Coming up, ladies and gentlemen, a closer look at what's on my radar. One quick brief for you on Dirty Green Energy. We'll be right back. Starting point is 00:11:14 Start selling on Deepop where taste recognizes taste. Welcome back to the PDB. As always, I'm watching a few other stories this morning. Put this one on your radar. We've got an update on our series, Dirty Green Energy. Now, as listeners probably remember, that was our four-part series a couple of weeks ago, starting September 12th,
Starting point is 00:11:34 where we discussed the costs of green energy, including solar, wind, mining, and back. batteries. The goal then as now isn't to say that it's all bad, but rather treat it with the same critical eye that we give to traditional energy like oil and gas and coal. Because what's good for the goose should be good for the gander, which actually is a nice way of introducing today's update. Joe Biden and his team have issued new rules for wind farms, making it easier to get building permits. Now, a key rule is that the windblades can actually legally kill lots of birds, specifically bald eagles and golden eagles too. Now, if that surprises you or
Starting point is 00:12:18 outrages you, well, don't expect to learn any more details of how many dead birds we should expect to see. That's because the Biden administration is refusing to comment. In fact, they're saying it's, quote, sensitive law enforcement information, end quote, and they are unable to share anything further. Now, if you're scowling right now out of surprise or skepticism, we'll take comfort in knowing that I did the same thing. It's a very bizarre response. Why are dead birds at a wind farm, a, quote, sensitive law enforcement issue, end quote. Well, here's what we know. According to Fortune magazine and the Associated Press, the Biden administration late last week proposed a new permitting program for wind turbines and the power lines necessary to distribute the turbine's power.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Well, specifically, the rules were issued by the Fish and Wildlife Service, which said that the new rules were meant to accomplish two things. First, encourage wind power development at virtually any cost because we must stop climate change. Second, the federal government should work with wind energy companies to come up with plans to limit the death of bald eagles and golden eagles. It's plus find ways to avoid disturbing their breeding grounds. However, those mitigation strategies should not kill wind farms even if we're killing birds because, again, climate change. So one additional piece of context here, there's something called the Bald and Golden
Starting point is 00:13:51 Eagle Protection Act. Now, generally, you are not allowed to kill these majestic birds, but the federal government does allow for it. It's called taking of an eagle. But you have to have a permit to. do so. And that's what the Biden team has updated, allowing wind energy companies to more easily get permits to take Eagles and take they will. There are 72,000 wind turbines already in operation in this country, and many of them overlap with Prime Eagle territory in states like
Starting point is 00:14:21 Wyoming, Montana, California, Washington, and Oregon. So that means more wind turbines, well, more dead eagles. But how many dead birds are we talking about? Because that's a really fair question to ask. The entire Dirty Green series that I brought you is focused on questions like this because if these eagles were covered in oil after a tanker ran aground, we'd all be asking these questions, as we should. But when reporters at Fortune Magazine and the Associated Press asked the Biden administration this question, how many dead birds will there be, especially eagles? Well, they were told that the information, once again, is sensitive law enforcement information and can't be shared.
Starting point is 00:15:05 So why is that? Folks, I have absolutely no idea. I have calls and emails out asking for this information. Because it seems very odd, like folks are trying to hide something. Now, look, maybe they're not. Maybe there's a very valid reason to hide the truth. But it does seem odd.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Regardless, there are only about 30 to 40,000 golden eagles left, Bald Eagles actually are doing a bit better, but it's those golden eagles that are of special concern because they need a lot more wide open territory to survive. They don't do well with humans or our big structures like wind turbines. It seems like we should be talking about that and also why the federal government doesn't want to talk about that apparently. But don't worry, folks, I'll keep pressing on my end because this story is both strange and important. I will keep you posted, I promise. And with that, one more thing before I let you go. A listener question as always, we'll be right back. Own it all. Pay off your home, travel for life, drive a Ferrari.

Starting point is 00:16:59 Start comparing hundreds of sites with Kaii. and get your trip right. Kayak, got that right. Welcome back to the PDB, ladies and gentlemen. One more thing before I let you go. An email from Richard in McKenzie, Tennessee. He said, Brian, I'd like hearing how different European countries and their people are getting ready for their first big winter without Russian energy.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Keep those stories coming. Well, Richard, here is a good story for you. Now, a reminder, it's a very serious topic, but this one's a little bit lighthearted. So last week, the Irish government announced a $1.2 billion energy assistance program where businesses can claim up to $10,000 per month to offset higher energy bills, which is pretty shocking. But nevertheless, some businesses aren't waiting for help, including the ones that have made Ireland very, very famous.
Starting point is 00:17:54 There's a pub in Dublin, Ireland called Doyle's Corner. They've announced that they are turning down their thermostat to save on their heating bill. and they expect things to get pretty chilly inside the pub. So they're telling customers, bring a jacket. And for the trouble, they'll give you 20% off your bill. Then again, you might want to drink another Guinness to keep yourself warm, so who knows if you'll actually be saving any money at the end of the day. But, Richard, the point is, I will tell you that the average European is really in serious trouble.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Guinness jokes aside. So, for instance, in the Netherlands, they just announced that last, Last month's inflation rose to 17% mostly because of energy prices. In Ireland, they're also raising gas and electricity rates, in fact, by 49% starting this month. In Italy, they're doing the same. So it's really heartbreaking stuff for the common working man and woman. A lot of painful lessons to come for those folks. We wish them well, and frankly, we wish that this war in Ukraine were over.
Starting point is 00:19:00 And that, ladies and gentlemen, concludes your morning brief. As always, we close out the show, reminding each other of why we are here, talking about our country and our world. It's the creed of every good spy and every smart American. It's from John, chapter 8, verse 32. And you shall know the truth. And the truth shall make you free. Good day.
