It's Monday, 27 May, and that's Memorial Day here in the United States.
Starting point is 00:00:49 I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very relaxing and an enjoyable day from all of us here at the President's Daily Brief. Now, while today is a day to gather with family and friends, of course, to fire up the grill, maybe head to the beach, the lake, the pool, or just hang out in the backyard. It's also, first and foremost, a reminder to take just a bit of time. to reflect on the past and present sacrifice of those who have served and are serving this nation. This country is built on their sacrifice and, of course, that of their families. Those that have passed and our current veterans and active duty represent such a small fraction of the overall population. They are truly deserving of our gratitude and appreciation.
Starting point is 00:01:34 Now, I come from a military family. My father entered World War II with the Army Air Corps. My brothers, it was Vietnam. Service and duty to country. It was ingrained in our upbringing. You do your part. You serve something greater than yourself. Members of my immediate family are buried at Arlington National Cemetery, and it is, in my opinion, the finest reminder of service and sacrifice in this country. If you have never visited Arlington, go. And if you have kids, take them. Walking the paths and grounds of Arlington National Cemetery, will lift your spirits and give you renewed hope. The history that is there, right up to the most recent conflicts from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, the cemetery tells a story that weaves generations together. Now, of course, service and sacrifice, well, they can take many forms. Teachers, first responders, volunteers, nurses, caregivers, and they all deserve our respect.
Starting point is 00:02:35 They're all important. But today, on Memorial Day, well, it's our chance to be. to focus on our military. So take a moment, visit a monument, stop by the local veteran cemetery, go to a parade, say thank you to a veteran or active duty service member, or just talk with your kids about what Memorial Day means and why it's important. And then, of course, by all means, enjoy your time with family and friends. We have that luxury because a small number of citizens over the years have chosen to stand on the front lines defending our freedoms. On behalf of the President's Daily Brief, thank you to all who have served and to those who continue to serve.
Starting point is 00:03:15 And to all the PDB audience, I wish you a very memorable Memorial Day. I'm Mike Baker. I'll be back tomorrow. Until then, stay informed. Stay safe. Stay cool. Not loving your AT&T or T Mobile Bill? Yeah, we've been hearing that a lot.
