Starting point is 00:00:50 Just text PDB to the number 989-898-8. It's Thursday, the 4th of September. Welcome to the President's Daily Brief. I'm Mike Baker, your eyes and ears on the world stage. All right, let's get briefed. First up, President Trump unleashes on Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong-un. Oh, there's a triumvirate, accusing the trio of conspiring against America after their show of unity in Beijing this week. Well, I'm pretty sure they'd agree with that assessment.
Starting point is 00:01:32 I'll have the details. Later in the show, the UN is urging Tehran to strike a deal on inspections, warning that VIII vital knowledge about Iran's nuclear program is already slipping away. Plus, a free speech fight breaks out in the UK after comedian Graham Linahan was arrested over social media posts criticizing trans activists. Now, as a dual British-U.S. citizen, I feel it's within my purview to ask, has the UK government completely lost the plot? And in today's back of the brief, a hot mic captures a, well,
Starting point is 00:02:10 Okay, I too am a hot mic, but I'm talking about a hot microphone, captures a bizarre conversation between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, during which the pair discussed organ transplants and human immortality. I'm not making that up. But first, today's PDB spotlight. President Trump turned his attention to the authoritarian leaders of China, Russia, and North Korea on Wednesday as they gathered in Beijing for Chinese President Xi Jinping's massive and festive victory. Day Parade. As we've been tracking on the BDB, Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean despot Kim Jong-un were in attendance for the Day of Military Pagintry, which marked the 80th anniversary of Japan's surrender in World War II. While the parade, which featured a procession of missiles and drones and advanced weaponry and more than 10,000 troops, have been billed by Beijing as a special commemoration, it appeared to be more about sending a clear message to the West, namely that a block of authoritarian powers is prepared to defy the U.S. and Western allies, whether on the battlefield or on the international stage.
Starting point is 00:03:19 President Trump is certainly taking it as a direct challenge to the U.S. Taking to truth social, as he does to express his displeasure, Trump sarcastically said, quote, May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, as you can spot you. against the United States of America." And quote. Absent from the celebration were any Western leaders, a notable omission for a parade commemorating Japan's surrender.
Starting point is 00:03:49 As, if I'm not mistaken, I believe the U.S. and UK and Australia and Canada and New Zealand and others played a rather significant leading role in defeating Imperial Japan during World War II. But apparently, President Xi didn't feel that way. President Trump seized on this fact, noting the massive amount of support and blood that the U.S. gave China in order to help free them from a, quote, very unfriendly foreign invader. He added, quote, many Americans died in China's quest for victory and glory. I hope that they are rightfully honored and remembered for their bravery and sacrifice, end quote. Now, if you are wondering, Xi and company glossed over that inconvenient history during Wednesday's proceedings. Instead, she, flanked by Putin and Kim, gave a brief address commemorating the victims of Japan's occupation, and called for, without a hint of irony, the eradication of the root causes of global conflict, lest history repeat itself.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Apparently, Xi was unaware that Putin, standing right next to him, is a root cause of global conflict. Not to mention, she's increased harassment of Taiwan and military aggression in the South China Sea, but maybe I'm just sounding churlish now. parade showed off a wide, ranging arsenal of munitions and military hardware, as well as next-generation weapons, like China's hypersonic anti-ship missiles capable of sinking U.S. aircraft carriers in the Pacific. Given the display, it feels like she and his friends are the ones who need to remember the lessons of World War II, although between you and me, I don't think self-reflection or self-awareness is their strong suit. So aside from truth's social posts, how is President Trump responding to this unified display by America's most powerful adversaries.
Starting point is 00:05:38 For now, well, with continued appeals for diplomacy alongside some vague threats. It's worth remembering that when it comes to China, the U.S. is still locked in high-stakes trade negotiations with the Chinese Communist Party, and Trump doesn't want to disrupt those delicate efforts. With North Korea, Trump has reiterated in recent weeks his desire to meet with Kim, echoing the direct diplomacy of his first term, though the Hermit Kingdom, bolstered now by their wartime alliance with Russia, has not returned his diplomatic overtures.
Starting point is 00:06:10 That leaves Putin, who continues to be a major thorn, of course, in Trump's side since his return to office. On Tuesday, ahead of the parade, Trump lamented Putin's intransigence regarding ending the war in Ukraine, particularly after their Alaska summit ended without any major breakthrough. During a radio interview, Trump said, quote, I'm very disappointed in President Putin, We had a great relationship. I'm very disappointed, end quote. Trump followed that up with remarks on Wednesday, suggesting he might impose fresh sanctions on Russia, we have heard that before, if they fail to reach a peace deal with Ukraine soon, though he was light on any details. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said, quote, I have no message to President Putin. He knows where I stand, and he'll make a decision one way or the other.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Whatever his decision is, will either be happy about it or unlawful. unhappy, and if we're unhappy about it, you'll see things happen, end quote. Now, Trump has repeatedly suggested he's prepared to tighten the economic noose around Russia, but the long-threatened sanctions have yet to materialize. But Trump pushed back against criticisms that his threats against Russia have been empty, pointing to the recent secondary sanctions imposed on India for buying Russian oil. Trump remarked, quote, you call that no action? and I haven't done phase two and phase three yet, end quote.
Starting point is 00:07:32 What phase two or three might involve, however, well, that remains unclear. But Trump is slated to speak with Ukrainian President Zelensky later today, along with Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, who described Putin's recent aerial escalations against Ukraine as despicable. According to Besant, all options remain on the table when it comes to Russia. All right, coming up after the break. pressure mounts on Tehran to allow nuclear inspections. And Britain debates free speech after the arrest of Father Ted co-creator and writer Graham Linnehan. I'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Hey, Mike Baker here. Just tell the manager you'll sue. Instant room upgrade. Stop taking bad travel advice.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Start comparing hundreds of sites with kayak, and get your trip right. Kayak. Got that right. Welcome back to the BDB. The UN is once again sounding the alarm on Iran's nuclear ambitions. The head of the UN's nuclear watchdog warns inspections must resume within days or risk a total collapse of continuity in tracking the regimes near weapons-grade uranium after June's U.S. Israeli airstrikes.
Starting point is 00:10:21 In an exclusive interview with Reuters, International Atomic Energy Agency Chief Rafael Grossi said talks with the mullahs on on restarting site monitoring, quote, cannot go on for months on end, pressing for a breakthrough, quote, perhaps within a few days. His push comes just ahead of next week's 35-Nation IAEA board meeting in Vienna. Grossy told the outlet, quote, it would be really good if we could have this agreed before then. As we've tracked here on the PDB, the Islamic regime has passed a law suspending cooperation with the agency, giving the country's Supreme National Security Council veto power over any future in
Starting point is 00:10:58 Now, while inspectors visited Boucher, that's the regime's only known civilian nuclear plant, Fordo, Natanz, and Ispon, the so-called crown jewels of Iran's enrichment infrastructure, have been inaccessible since the mid-June bombings. Grossie says the mullahs are now demanding secrecy on top of secrecy, insisting locations of their enriched stockpile remain undisclosed. He bluntly told member states, quote, domestic law creates obligations for Iran, not for the agency, referring to the regime's recent law that was passed.
Starting point is 00:11:30 A confidential IAEA report circulated yesterday, added urgency to the situation, stating that the regime currently has an estimated 440 kilograms or 18 pounds of uranium enriched up to 60 percent. That material would be enough to fuel around 10 nuclear weapons. Grossy maintains there's a general understanding that the material hasn't left the country, but verification is another matter. A senior IAEA diplomat noted Tehran would have only weeks to provide a full accounting if a deal were struck. For now, though, UN inspectors are flying blind. The IAEA chief called it a, quote, loss of continuity of knowledge.
Starting point is 00:12:11 The first since Iran began enrichment in 2006, and warned the changes in their program are now untracked. His restricted report circulated this week confirmed the obvious. Nearly three months in, there's still no breakthrough in monitoring. As we covered last week, Britain, France, and Germany referred Iran back to the UN Security Council, setting the stage for snapback sanctions if an alternative outcome is not met by the end of the month. The Islamic regime has since counted with threats to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty altogether. That's the landmark pact designed to halt a spread of nuclear arms. And unless Washington guarantees no further airstrikes, the Mullahs say there'll be no further negotiations.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Despite those June airstrikes, grossy cautions that Iran retains the ability to manufacture new centrifuges, meaning its nuclear potential has not been eliminated. Satellite imagery confirms that the U.S. airstrikes leveled surface infrastructure, but they also erased routine inspector access. The IAEA chief insists he's leaving space for diplomacy, but his reports all say the same thing. No progress. whether inspections resume in the coming days will determine if the IAEA can reestablish confidence in monitoring the Islamic regime or if it's stockpile of weapons-grade uranium slips further into the shadows.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Okay, shifting to the United Kingdom, in a fine example of how the woke culture's intolerance and self-righteousness, not to mention complete lack of humor, breeds fascism, well, armed police officers greeted sitcom writer Graham Linnehan at London's Heathrow. airport, not because he was smuggling weapons or plotting terror, but because of his posts on X, igniting a firestorm over free speech and policing priorities. Lennan, an Irish writer and co-creator of the popular British comedy father Ted, was detained under the Public Order Act on suspicion of inciting violence Monday after several posts criticizing transgender activists. He recounted the ordeal on the media platform substack, describing it as something out of a dark
Starting point is 00:14:19 Farse. According to Linahan, the first end of trouble came in the U.S. when a gate agent told him his ticket was invalid and issued him a new one. A hiccup that he later suspected was no coincidence. As he put it, quote, someone somewhere, probably wearing unconvincing makeup, flagged my post. When he disembarked Heathrow, five armed officers, they were armed and there were five of them were waiting. They told him his arrest stemmed from three posts, one of which read, quote, if a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent abusive act. Make a scene. Call the cops.
Starting point is 00:14:57 And if all else fails, punch him in the balls, end quote. Linnahan insisted it was a serious point made with humor, but not an incitement to violence. But that didn't stop officers from putting him in handcuffs. Released on bail, he was hit with what he called a, quote, legal gag order barring him from using X. His next police interview is in October. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley defended his officers, but practically begged lawmakers to step in.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Okay, how dysfunctional would that be? He told reporters, quote, we've been left between Iraq and a hard place, arguing that current legislation forces police to treat perceived threats against protected groups as prosecutable offenses. The political fallout was immediate. Conservative leader Kemmy Badnock blasted the arrest as, quote, politics, not policing, reformed member of Parliament Rupert Lowe warned, quote, Linnehan today, you tomorrow. Conservative Party MP Neil O'Brien called Britain, quote, a total laughingstock. And Nigel Farage asked rhetorically, quote, at what point did we become North Korea? Even Vice President J.D. Vance piled on, calling the episode proof that free speech in Europe is, quote, in retreat.
Starting point is 00:16:11 The literary world closed ranks two. Harry Potter creator and writer J.K. Rowling slammed the arrest as, quote, totalitarianism and utterly deplorable before posting ooh earmuffs kids quote what the fuck has the UK become the free speech union pledged to bankroll linohan's legal defense mocking police priorities as only one in five UK shoplifting cases are solved three quarters of burglary cases are abandoned but five armed officers were dispatched for a joke linahan himself framed the matter as evidence of a deeper woke rot
Starting point is 00:16:45 He wrote on Substack, quote, The UK has become a country hostile to freedom of speech, hostile to women, and far too accommodating to the demands of violent, entitled, abusive men who have turned the police into their personal goon squad, end quote. For many, Linahan's arrest now stands as a symbol of Britain's warped priorities, tweets treated like terrorism,
Starting point is 00:17:08 punch lines like public safety threats. Okay. Coming up next in the back of the brief, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping caught on a hot mic discussing immortality in the dream of living to 150 years. More on that story when we come back. Hey, Mike Baker here. Let me take just a moment of your time to talk about protecting your hard-earned assets. In today's back of the brief, I want to end the show today by returning to our coverage of Wednesday's big authoritarian blowout in Beijing, where Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-un presented themselves as architects of a rival world order to the West. Amid all that glad-handing and marching and military flexing, a hot mic picked up a bizarre and rather disturbing exchange between Xi and Putin, offering. a unique view into what can only be described as their shared megalomania. According to our report from the New York Post, the aging dictators were heard discussing leaps in anti-aging technology and the possibility of achieving immortality.
Starting point is 00:20:26 The hot mic moment was captured as Putin, Xi and Kim walks together during China's massive military parade, marking the 80th anniversary of Japan's defeat in World War II. On a live stream broadcast on Chinese state media, Putin's translator could be heard saying, quote, biotechnology is continuously developing. Human organs can be continuously transplanted. The longer you live, the younger you become. Putin reportedly added, quote, you can even achieve immortality. It appears she also has a keen interest in this subject. His translator reportedly responded by saying, quote, some predict that in this century humans may live to 150 years old. Earlier, people rarely live to 70, but these days, at 70 years, you are still a child.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Putin and she are both 72 years old now, definitely the age at which fellas start thinking about organ transplants and immortality. The conversation unfolded as Kim looked on at Putin and she smiling, though it's not clear if the conversation was being translated for Kim in that moment. According to the post report, the audio of the exchange was only available on the live stream for less than a minute before it dropped out. Moments later, she inspected his assembled troops and the expansive array of military hardware. on display and told the crowd of more than 50,000 spectators that the world is at a critical juncture in history and must choose between, quote, peace or war. Well, I think Putin already made his choice, and it seems that both she and Kim are on board with it. It's worth noting that she has now been in power for 13 years, while Putin has been at the helm of Russia for 25 years.
Starting point is 00:22:05 But rather than strolling around the parade grounds, chatting about retirement plans, it seems they've got the designs on sticking around till the next century. Maybe, here's a thought, we could all chip in, raise a charitable fund, and have them cryogenically frozen before the holiday season.
