Starting point is 00:00:00 🎵 Live from the headquarters of Ramsey Solutions, broadcasting from the Dollar Car Rental Studios, it's the Dave Ramsey Show, where debt is dumb, cash is king, and the paid-off home mortgage has taken the place of the BMW as the status symbol of choice. I'm Dave Ramsey, your host. Thank you for joining us, America. Open phones at 888-825-5225. That's 888-825-5225.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Andrew starts off this hour in California. By the way, Anthony O'Neill is my co-host this hour. Sorry about that. Ramsey personality. Hey, Andrew, how can we help? Hey, guys, thanks for taking the call. So I'm 29. I just started listening to your show about a month ago. My son's been in the NICU here at LA Children's for 120 days. And so I've been stacking, luckily I stacked a lot of cash in the beginning, um, just as a, as a safety net. So was he born early or what's his issue? Yeah. So he was born 32 weeks at two pounds. And, um, so he's had a couple issues,
Starting point is 00:01:41 but, um, he's getting better. So he had surgery a couple days ago. Is this your first baby? Yeah, yeah, it has been. So it's been hard because it's also added a commute, you know, on top of work, and it's just been a little stressful. Well, and COVID, you can't get in there, I mean. Right, yeah. So only one of us are allowed in there at a time,
Starting point is 00:02:02 and so that's been really hard too. So he's having a surgery, you said? What's that? He already had a surgery. He's got a G-tube put in so that he can eat, basically, and we can take him home with the G-tube. So at this point, they're just trying to get him home. But he's up to six and a half pounds now.
Starting point is 00:02:22 Oh, good. Yeah, he's making a lot of good progress and what's his name and god willing uh ethan yeah very difficult means enduring so we'll be praying for ethan all right so uh what do you make a year like so i make 110 000 a year made more my wife was working but how's your how's your health insurance great actually fantastic yeah because this is a million dollar ticket you just described a million dollars didn't you yeah yeah i did so thankfully my deductible going like 2000 a year um and so that's been a blessing but i'm concerned about his after care um and any extra costs you know out of pocket that we have to endure.
Starting point is 00:03:08 So a lot of it's been traveling, things like that. We had an Airbnb for a while, trying to figure out what to do. But my thing is I have no debt besides our cars, which is substantial. It's like $55,000 in car debt. Other than that, I inherited the house we live in, so I don't have... How much cash did you have stacked up? I have $30,000 in cash. Okay. And what do you... Break the cars down for me. Which one's the expensive one, which one's the next? Well, they're both about the same so i owe 27 000 on one and that one's worth about
Starting point is 00:03:46 25 000 and i and i want to sell that and i want to move down in car and the other car is a newer car that's worth about 25 000 as well and um or i owe 25 000 on it and that's worth maybe 20 so i want to move down in car and i because CAR, and I've been reading the books I read on for a leader, and I was reading it to Ethan because I say we should read to him, so I've just been burning through the books. And so I want to get started on these steps. Okay, let me ask you, what's the long-term prognosis for Ethan? How much care is he going to need ongoing?
Starting point is 00:04:28 So they're thinking like three to four months. But at the same time, they said we're only going to be in the NICU for like eight weeks. So I don't really know. Okay, so you think the feeding tube will come out and he'll be resuming as close to normal as we can hope for soon, as quickly as Christmas. Correct. Wow, that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Okay. And so mainly it was a size issue more than anything else, just due to being premature. Good, good. So you put the weight on. Thankfully, developmentally, he's great, and a lot of the tests have been negative. He just had some other eating issues.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Okay, so that's good news. But basically, probably your wife's not going back to work for a while. Right. Probably not. I really don't want to put her in that position, to be honest with you. Yeah, and you want to make sure he gets some extra care for his first year. Right. Yeah, and after that, you know, we may resume, may make some other decisions.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So I'm just going to be real, real straight with you, okay? Okay. Ethan is your only priority. Absolutely. Right. Sell both cars. Get two $5,000 cars and pay cash for them out of that $30,000 and hoard the cash and make sure this baby gets everything he needs. You don't have anything else to work on, my brother.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Right, I know. He's your whole deal. Right. Okay, yeah, that's what I was thinking. I didn't know if I should maybe try to hold on to one at a time. Nope, it's just a stupid car. Two years from now, what did your wife make when she was working? She made about $35,000 a year when she was working.
Starting point is 00:06:15 Okay. So two years from now, you guys are making $150,000, $160,000. She's back at work. You guys go pay cash and move up in cars when we don't have any issues with Ethan. But I'm not trading the security that that money gives me around taking care of this baby for any stupid car. Right. Okay, I agree. So then I should just be working on that now while he's in.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Okay. So that's what I was wondering, if I should be focused on that and try to make that all happen. Let's just pretend that 10 grand changes this entire trajectory out of your pocket. Right? Right. You want that 10 grand to be laying there. And you don't want card debt hanging around your neck. Right.
Starting point is 00:07:02 No, I don't. I hate it. I hate it now. You want all this. You got all kinds of wiggle room in your life all kinds of margin in your life to do what you need to do and you're just overwhelmed man i mean you got you you have not you've had one thought for since he was born right right yeah he's born in february yeah you've had one thought everybody else is worried about
Starting point is 00:07:21 corona you're worried about ethan yep i know. I haven't thought about all that, you know. It's crazy. Yeah, that stuff, that was just in your way. You know, it's just between you and being able to see your baby more. And so, yeah, that's what you do, boss. And, you know, you're a good man. Yeah. He's a good guy.
Starting point is 00:07:41 Yeah, I was silent on this one, Dave, because I just love young people. And to hear that this baby is going through this. I'm just praying for all the other babies going through like through this. But I agree with you, Dave. You know, right now I'm selling the cars yesterday and I'm freeing up all my cash to make sure that my son is 100 percent healthy as quick as possible. And I will be fearful. Hear me clearly. I'll be fearful to tell my son no because I didn't want to sell some cars. I'm getting rid of the car. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I want all the cash I can get my hands on available until we've made the complete turn. Yes, sir. Around this corner. Yeah. And wow. It's a defining moment. And you're up to it. You're the man. Yeah. You really um, wow. It's a defining moment and you've, you're, you're up to it. You're the man. Yeah. You really have done good stuff here. You've been thinking clearly
Starting point is 00:08:29 while you're in the middle of an overwhelming emotional situation. God bless you, sir. This is the Dave Ramsey show. Folks, I love telling you about well-made, well-thought-out products. Today, I'm talking about Grip6 belts. I don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of traditional belts. Starting point is 00:10:50 Sam is in Missouri. Hey, Sam, how are you? Oh, I'm doing good, Dave. What about you? Better than I deserve. What's up? So I have a career question for you. My question would be is I'm actually planning on getting married within the
Starting point is 00:11:06 next year, which is super exciting. The only question that I have about that is I live about two hours away from my future fiance, if she says yes. But my question is once we get married i know she really likes where she lives and i've built my business up to where i'm comfortable now i just don't know it i just put so much work into this business it would be super hard to leave this but i would be willing to do it for her i just don't know if i would be able to build that business up again, just because now I know how much work it actually took to begin with. I just wanted to know your thoughts on that. Well, let me ask you this question, Sam. This is Anthony. Have you, so clearly you haven't proposed yet, but once, are you all even talking about this yet? Like, are you making the answer
Starting point is 00:12:02 for her or have you explained that to her and had the conversation like, hey, I've built this business. Would you be willing or would you consider it's an option for us to start our family here? I mean, has that even been a conversation or are you just being a gentleman, a good man, just saying, okay, I'm willing to up and root, but has it been a conversation? Well, we have had that conversation, and she said that she would look for jobs down in the area that I am at. But she asked me if she couldn't find a job, would I be willing to move up with her, which I would.
Starting point is 00:12:41 But I also know I would be giving up everything that I worked for, which is, I understand that that would have to happen. It just seems like a very, very big thing to give up. Is it hard to move your business? What do you make? $60,000. That's your net profit on your business? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:13:03 And how long have you been working on it? Two years. What's the upside? What's it going to become? So I have the potential to make up around $200,000 a year. What does she do? She's a school teacher. Which she can do anywhere.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Mm-hmm. I think it's unreasonable for her to ask you to leave. Mm-hmm. I don't think it's a gentlemanly thing. I think it's just kind of a common sense thing. Right. You've got a business that you built to 60 on the way to 200. She can be a teacher anywhere.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Mm-hmm. If she wants to live next to Mommy, then maybe she doesn't need to get married. Yeah, and that was kind of the hard part. I didn't know exactly just how to bring that up without upsetting her. I don't want to just come in and say, hey, we're going to move here because that would upset her. I just want to approach it in a way that says. Why would that upset her? Well, Dave, you got a good point.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Don't say you want to stay near the mom i mean figure out a way to have a conversation no i'm saying that i'm just saying that i'm not saying you say that to her but you know i think you just say you know part of marrying me part of doing life with me is i'm an entrepreneur and i've poured my life into building this business it's very much a part of who i am right it's It's very much a part of everything that, you know, and it's what I want to do with my future. And you just dumping all of that in the toilet and moving to her town because she didn't want to leave her town, it's not logical.
Starting point is 00:14:38 It doesn't make sense. Yeah. So I think there's a way to have that conversation with her without being afraid of her and just go, you know, I'm just sharing my heart with you. This is who I am. And I love my business. I love what I'm doing. I don't love it more than you.
Starting point is 00:14:54 I would dump it in the toilet to come up there, but it just doesn't make sense. And I think it's fair for us to talk about that. It's not logical. And, you know, she can start a teaching career fresh out of school in any city and you know does it take a year to get on maybe she might not get on the first year but uh she can substitute and do some other stuff and so forth and um so i mean yeah i but i mean it's not i don't know it's not a deal breaker. You can decide where you want to live, sir. It's your decision. It's your life.
Starting point is 00:15:26 You get to go where you want to go on it. But that's the way I would approach it. It just doesn't – it seems like this is a two-way street, and there's more stuff on your side of the road. Yeah. And, Dave, here's my other concern from him is I feel as if if he drops everything that he built for two years and left there, I feel as if if he drops everything that he built for two years. Yeah, how's he going to feel? I feel as if he may have resentment down the road in the marriage.
Starting point is 00:15:48 Yeah. And that's not healthy for a marriage. Yeah. I mean, this is a different generation. I mean, I proposed to Sharon. I said, I'll be living in Nashville. I hope you go. Because I just got a job there.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Yeah. I just got a job there there and that's where the food is so we are going towards the job where there is food and she's like okay let's go yeah i remember when i proposed to my ex-fiance david that was that was a hard conversation to have but then when i'm not because you were moving up here from jacksonville florida exactly and she was in a high high position and made a very well-known position. So it was like a, I'm like, no, but I ain't doing nothing. So if you ain't coming up here, then we can't get married.
Starting point is 00:16:32 So this generation is a little funny. You know, it's like... Well, I'm not saying she doesn't have rights. I'm not saying she doesn't have value. If she was a doctor and had a practice and she was making $300,000 a year and you had a job making $30,000, fold up tent and go move. Yeah. I's not about you know the lady needs to follow
Starting point is 00:16:49 the man everywhere that's not my point at all but my point is there's an established thing here and the teacher issue is portable yes and there's teachers in every community and thank goodness and um so and you know in our case we were so broke i mean i had a dollar 16 in my checking account when i proposed and i'm like we got to get more money in that checking account because there's food needs to go in this belly yes and i have a job offer over here 1982 1500 a month baby eighteen thousand dollars a year big money it is it It's big money. Big money in 1982. It is. I had a big job coming out of college.
Starting point is 00:17:29 I took that job, and we hooked the old U-Haul up, and this is where we headed. But, yeah, I mean, you just talk it through and go, you know, and she didn't have a job where she was. She didn't have any plans. She wasn't going to stay in the little town she grew up in anyway, so Nashville sounded excited to her. So it was real easy in terms of our decision, but it's like this is where i'm going i hope you go with me open phones at 888-825-5225 kelly is in wyoming hi kelly how are you hi dave anthony how are you guys? Good. How can we help? Good, good.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Hey, I've had a credit card for about 19 years, and I know I can just hear you cringing on the other end there, but I never carry a balance on it, and regularly we make $400 to $500 cash back on it a year. That's a lot of money. And I just want to get your take on that. Yeah, so do we. I know that you like to cut up credit cards,
Starting point is 00:18:30 but come on, make money off of it. What do you think? No, man, cut it up, man. Now you know $400 or $500 is not a lot of money, man. Come on, man. It's not, but it's $400 or $500 for not using it, right? Well, you're working awfully hard for $400. Yes, you really are, man. You really are.
Starting point is 00:18:48 It's not worth it. Well, it's stuff we buy anyway. Well, you got your answer. You called the Dave Ramsey show and asked if you should cut up a credit card. You just did that. You did that. You really did that, y'all. Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Come on. I mean, yeah, you do whatever you want to do, boss. Lots of people don't go bankrupt doing what you're doing. But that $400 or $500 is not going to make you a millionaire. It's not. And the handling and screwing around and playing with snakes that bite will keep you from being one. So you decide what you want to do. I don't think you're going to go bankrupt because of it.
Starting point is 00:19:19 But I've got lots of friends that do the same thing, but they're just wrong. And you called this show. I haven't had a credit card in 30 years. I have two debit cards. I have four pieces of plastic in my pocket. Two debit cards, my driver's license, and my handgun carry permit. That's all that's in my pocket. This is the Dave Ramsey Show.

Terms and conditions apply. In the lobby of Ramsey Solutions, Slavic is here. Hey, Slavic, how are you? Doing great, Dave. Am I pronouncing your name wrong? No, you're almost right.
Starting point is 00:21:17 No, I'm just kidding. You're right. Tell me, is it Slavic or Slavic? It's Slavic, but it's not my full name because, you know, it's hard for Americans. Oh, I probably would never get there. Thanks for letting me off, brother. I appreciate it. All right. So because, you know, it's hard for Americans. Oh, I probably would never get there. Thanks for letting me off, brother. I appreciate it. All right, so where do you live, sir?
Starting point is 00:21:29 Currently I live in Springfield, Missouri. Very cool, very cool. What is your country of origin? Ukraine. Ukraine, wonderful area. Well, welcome. Good to have you, sir. How much debt have you paid off?
Starting point is 00:21:40 $25,000. Wow, how long did that take? About a year and a half to 1.7 months. Got it. Very good. And your range of income during that time, sir? So I started off actually $60,000 and then ended at $66,000. Cool.
Starting point is 00:21:57 What do you do for a living? Well, currently I'm an interpreter for Russian-Ukrainian back in Springfield. That makes sense i enjoyed but you know after the corona thing hit it kind of you know dropped the the client oh i guess yeah okay so i'm kind of work picking up jobs here and there you know just kind of keep keep my income going because i was actually going to be a missionary back to ukraine yeah after paying off my debt which is why i did it good for you how much debt have you got uh well i had i had 25 000 i have zero no i'm sorry what kind of debt was the 25 oh yeah after paying off my debt, which is why I did it. Good for you. How much debt have you got? Well, I had $25,000.
Starting point is 00:22:27 I have zero now. No, I'm sorry. What kind of debt was the $25,000? Oh, yeah. So it was medical debt and student loans. But the most amazing part about the medical part is that – so can I explain how I started my – Sure, sure. So I was going through a really difficult time
Starting point is 00:22:42 because I didn't know where I was going in life in 2018. And I was going through a really difficult time because I didn't know where I was going in life in 2018. And I was going through a master's program in cybersecurity. And during the middle of it, I got into a huge car accident. And I dislocated my right hip completely. And so I had to crawl out of the vehicle and, you know, wait for the ambulance to pick me up. And, you know, I spent three days in the hospital. And it was like the most kind of like, you the most life-changing, surreal moment in my life. I guess coming from Ukraine was one thing, becoming an American,
Starting point is 00:23:10 and becoming a Christian was another, but this was a really crazy moment. In the hospital, I started listening to your show. I've heard about you for a long time, but then I started listening to For some reason, God really led me to you. After I started listening to you, I was led me to you and after i started listening to you i was like i gotta pay off my debt you know because i had debt from my undergrad and then you know i didn't have debt for my master's going through it but my undergrad was you know hefty and then i also had medical loans from being three days in the hospital eighteen thousand dollars but then i got a job, a computer job, first job, $60,000.
Starting point is 00:23:46 And then right in the middle of it, as I was paying off my student loans, I was forgiven my medical debt of $18,000 because I made less money. I was like in the poor range, and it was a Catholic hospital. So the Catholic hospital saw that I made a certain amount of money less than the poor level or something, which is fine. I don't really care. But it was a miracle that I was making so much less money
Starting point is 00:24:11 so that I could pay off my medical debt, that God could do it, and then I could just focus on my student loans. Wow. And so the past year and a half, two years, I spent just paying off my student loans through two computer jobs. Wow. Very cool. Good for you.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Good for you. I know if I get sick, I'm going to a Catholic hospital. So what is, so what's the future look like now? Okay. So like I said, I felt like God really told me if I really, if I wanted to really serve and fully had to pay off my debt and I was going to go back to be a missionary for a year in Ukraine, back in Ukraine. And I couldn't do it until I paid off my debt. Well, I was going to do that in April, and I had my plane ticket to go.
Starting point is 00:24:55 I quit my computer job. And then I literally got my ticket, and then the corona thing hit, and they just kind of shut every world government down. And so I've just been kind of in Springfield, Missouri, you know, translating, interpreting, which I had that job before I paid off my debt, which was a blessing, you know? And so while doing my, um, while working for my computer job, I really, I was miserable, Dave. Uh, it wasn't my gifting. It wasn't my talent. And, and so during it, I discovered i discovered you know that i had to make a youtube
Starting point is 00:25:26 channel so i started so i started a youtube channel like ken coleman you know said to do pursue your passion and i found my passion and trying to wake people up to the constitution the bill of rights and you know and to bring americans back to the founding of the united states and also you know i i want to help people understand how we are in the end times and that we are in the midst of a new world order and that Christians, we need to get ready because there's an international conspiracy against the United States and against the whole world. And so the YouTube channel took off.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Yeah, it took off. Well, I mean, it's still a few subscribers, you know, but it's called Liberty or Death Show. Look at you, you man way to go very cool so what do you tell people the key to getting out of debt is uh i would say just stick to your plan fully i i really did that i i budgeted my money really well i learned it from you you know no one ever taught me money not my parents not even the church people but you know it was through being in the hospital listening to you daily that I learned about money. And then I started, you know, looking at all my dollars. I went on
Starting point is 00:26:30 every dollar app and I said that to people when I taught them because I taught in prison and in homeless ministries about your plan. I told them you need to download every dollar and you need to get on it because it'll take you three months to get it. And that's what it took me three months. And then I was going. And so that's what it took me three months. And then I was just going. And so that's what got me through it is listening to your show daily and staying on the plan and being goal-driven. So how long have you been a citizen? Since 2007.
Starting point is 00:26:55 Okay. All right. Very cool. Good for you, man. Very, very well done. I love it. Well, congratulations. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:27:02 We're proud of you, hero. Well done. Thank you. Got a copy of Chris Hogan's book for you, Everyday Millionaires. That's the next chapter in your story for sure. Thank you. You are on the way and on the way to the mission field as soon as this world heals up enough to allow you to get over there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:18 Can I say something? Sure. Yeah, I just want to tell you, Dave, that you truly, you know, Jesus changed my spiritual life, my internal life. But you truly changed my financial life and and truly maybe becoming to the man that I am today. You know, just to be really, you know, to be responsible with money. And I don't think you realize this, but you God gave you a gift at the right time in the 70s and 80s because I read your books and I read Kiyosaki's books and you guys came at the right time but you guys didn't know each other
Starting point is 00:27:48 and you intersected. And I believe God brought you for that reason so that you could wake America up to get out of debt so that we don't get destroyed by this trillions and trillions of dollars that the international bankers put us in into this death slavery system.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Yep. And so I, you know, I don't know if you realize it, but, you know, you don't understand how much of a gift you are to the United States. Well, you're very kind. I appreciate it. I think you are. And I'm proud of you for, I mean, we teach a lot of people and not everybody does it. You went and did it, man.
Starting point is 00:28:20 That's the big difference right there. You're the hero, man. I love it. Love your story. Very, very inspiring. Very well done all right slavic from springfield missouri for now uh that's where he is anyway 25 000 paid off in 18 months making 60 to 66 on his way to the mission field count it down let's hear a debt-free scream. Three, two, one. I'm debt-free! I love it!
Starting point is 00:28:53 So very fun. So very fun. Well done, sir. Congratulations. Congratulations. Excellent stuff. All right, Brianna is with us in New Jersey. Hey, Brianna, welcome to the Dave Ramsey Show.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Thanks. How are you guys doing today? Great. How can Anthony and I help? So I found out about your program a couple of months ago, and since then I've been hitting my different debts. And now I'm wondering, I want to buy a house in the next couple of years. Should I pay off the remainder of my student debt, even though it's the oldest account on my credit? I'm worried that it's going to negatively impact my credit whenever I go to buy a house.
Starting point is 00:29:35 I'm not worried about that, Brianna. How much student loan debt do you have? So I have $9,000 left. Oh, yeah. Pay it off. Pay it off. And then once you get out of debt, before you even purchase a house, I want you to get at least three months in a savings account, then start saving to go towards a house. But right now, we're not worried about a credit score.
Starting point is 00:29:55 We're worried about getting out of debt so we can start building wealth on a solid foundation, which is being debt free. Yeah. You need to be debt free completely and have your emergency fund in place, then save your down payment. Then save your down payment and that'll get you there. So, hey, thanks for joining us. Welcome to the Dave Ramsey Show. Hi, Dave.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Thank you for taking my call. Sure. What's up? Well, I feel like I'm calling you today from rock bottom. I just found out that I was terminated from my position, and I'm just looking for some guidance.
Starting point is 00:33:06 How long have you worked there? About five years. And you got fired this morning? I found out about it today. I have some health issues that sometimes make work difficult and so I've been missing some some work been contacting them though and doing everything i need to do um part of it's due to the covet is why i'm unable to go into because i am at a in a risk category um but i was caught off guard with this this morning are they laying a bunch of people off or they just let you go because you've been unable to come in? Because I've been unable to come in. We do have people who are working remotely now,
Starting point is 00:33:53 and in my situation where I'm living, I am unable to do the remote work. Okay. From home. What were you making? I was doing about $20 an hour, $40 a week. I was working for the state. And last year I actually got on that position.
Starting point is 00:34:15 The state fired you? Yeah. The state of California? Yes. I did have a medical issue last year that put me in intensive care and luckily i survived that and i do have some anxieties and that just shot my anxiety through the roof well yeah getting fired i'll do that yeah that too but i do have ongoing anxiety that I was managing before the last year, but I have been doing what I can to kind of keep it going and everything. So going into COVID, I was put on a doctor's note to stay home and not work because of my health.
Starting point is 00:35:02 And so the money hasn't been coming in, and I'm at rock bottom. So how much money do you have in savings right now? I don't have anything in savings right now. I mean, I have zero. I'm broke. Okay. Are you married? No, no, single.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Do you have family in the area? I do. I have elderly parents who are on a fixed income. In the last several weeks, we have been possibly going over, moving in together so I can help them with their age-related issues, and they can help me with my finances, know, my finances, save a little money. So you know where you can get some food anyway, right? Yes, I do. Okay. So we're not completely there.
Starting point is 00:35:52 All right. Well, I'm so sorry. Yeah. I'm sorry what you're going through. It's been a really tough year for you. It has been. Yeah. I think the, I think, are in a member of a good church by chance
Starting point is 00:36:08 i am actually waiting for a call back from them now yes okay i i think they might help you with some financial stuff but also i think more importantly uh to help you just kind of work through the um the pain of this just to sit and talk with a pastor or an on-staff counselor or something it would probably be a good idea uh i'm not a professional on that kind of a thing but we all need somebody to talk to when we're hurting and um and i think unpacking that and then that's gonna i get real practical and start giving you solutions that's what i do but right now your heart's just broken and you're scared yeah and so i mean my my solutions all go have to do with how do we go create an income quickly you know uh but you probably need to take a second and breathe in
Starting point is 00:36:56 the pain and breathe it back out and then go look for an income and try to figure out how you're going to do that if you're moving in with your mom and dad, you're taking care of them. Think about what you can do as a side hustle from there as well because here's the thing. A whole lot of your anxiety would go away if I could just wave my little wand over here and say, poof, you have a $100,000 a year job. Exactly. Yeah, you'd be in a whole different mood wouldn't you and i can't do that and i don't even know how to suggest what you do to cause that to happen
Starting point is 00:37:31 but um you know and if that happens at the end of this story then the then we're going to have one of those stories that says oh the best thing ever happened to old suze was the day she got fired from the stinking state of California. Right? Exactly. And so we've got to have something that causes that to be the end of the story. But the problem is this is the valley part of the story where there's manure and you can smell it. Definitely.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Yeah. And so, but stuff grows there. It's fertile. That's fertile. But, you know, the thing is, work your way through this. Go sit down with a pastor and work your way through this, the fears and the other things. But don't let the fear paralyze you or cause you to settle for less than what God's got for you. And also one thing as well, Susie, is while you're talking with your pastor, don't be fearful to ask him like, hey, are you aware of any job opportunities or people in the local church that maybe need some assistance right now to earn some income until maybe something
Starting point is 00:38:37 comes better? I think sometimes people, when they get to their lowest of lows, we're fearful to ask for help. Yeah. And I was. Yeah. I mean, I was too. But after working in a church, I'm going to tell you the best question someone asked me as far as in the church was, can you help me find a job? I need a little bit of help today, but I would rather you give me access to a job than just money today to buy food for the next week or two so it's like don't don't be fair to ask that question yeah don't be afraid don't be afraid to ask people people um that they they're naturally
Starting point is 00:39:18 compassionate with someone that's hurting most people that have a good human bone right but then on top of that they love everyone loves walking along besides someone who's industrious, who is going somewhere and has got a smile and a little pep. And today you don't have that. You got fired this morning, so today sucks. Today sucks. But over the next couple of weeks, you get a little pep in the step, and you go, I'm going somewhere.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Help me get there. And what Anthony's saying is true. Everyone likes to help you get a go-getter, get a job. But they don't want, you know, it's not an entitlement thing. It's not a, oh, I got fired from this state, and Eeyore is my spirit. No, that's not it. This is a different thing. This is God's got something bigger and better for me,
Starting point is 00:40:01 and I'm going on to the next thing. And hold on. We're going to have Madison send you a copy of ken coleman's book the proximity principle and read everything ken coleman is writing right now get on his website ken coleman.com there's a lot of good stuff there and you know what dave she needs to go file for unemployment oh yeah of course clearly so i hope you you have already done that if not please go do that yeah and you've got you know you got good payment through the end of july with an extra $600 a week from the feds coming in. And the state of California, I suspect, pays unemployment.
Starting point is 00:40:33 They bet it. Wow, that's amazing. Anthony, good show. Dave, America, thanks for having me. Absolutely. James Childs and Madison in the booth. I am Dave Ramsey, your host. We'll be back with you before you know it.
Starting point is 00:40:44 In the meantime, remember, there's ultimately only one way to financial peace, and that's to walk daily with the Prince of Peace. Christ Jesus.
