Starting point is 00:00:00 When I teach you guys fasting, I'm not just teaching you fasting from the science perspective. I'm teaching you fasting from what I see is working, hundreds of thousands of people. Resetters, Dr. Mindy here. And I am on a mission to teach you just how powerful your body was built to be. This podcast is about giving you the power back and helping you believe in yourself again. Let's jump in. Okay, resetters, Dr. Mindy here. And I want to give you a season three recap of some of the amazing interviews that I've had this year.
Starting point is 00:00:43 And I want to also give you a little bit of a behind the scenes of how I approach bringing guests on, the topics I like to cover, and also how important your feedback is to make sure that we customize this podcast for you. because that's really the point of doing it is to have conversations that move the needle forward on your health and your life. So to start with, we theme every season out. So this year was gratitude. I really picked gratitude because we were coming out of the pandemic. We were coming out of a stressful political time here in America. And I just felt like we really needed to turn the focus inward and look at all the great things that were going on in our life. You know, the brain has a tendency to try to fix the problems, but there was so much good that was unfolding as we were emerging out of the pandemic. I wanted to make sure that we really highlighted it. So when you're
Starting point is 00:01:40 listening to the episodes from season three, make sure you listen all the way through because at the end, I asked the guest, what's their gratitude practice and what are they grateful for? It was really cool to see what some people said. I mean, I learned a ton from it. So that's the first thing on all the episodes this season. The second thing that I did this season is I really chunked it down into categories of topics that I saw you were interested in. So the number one topic that so many of you want to hear from me about is insulin resistance. And I love that because hopefully you know that the root cause of so many health problems is insulin resistance. You've definitely heard me say about talk about how only 12% of Americans are metabolically fit.
Starting point is 00:02:33 And that basically means that, you know, we have an epidemic of people who can't control their blood sugar. And it's not as simple as just eating the right foods or picking the right fasting length. It's gotten way more complicated than that. So my favorite insulin resistance guy to talk to is Ben Bickman. we brought him back this season. So make sure, again, that you check out that episode. We basically did in everything you need to know about insulin.
Starting point is 00:03:06 And I have had two discussions with Ben. The first one, we really talked a lot about, and this was in season two, we talked a lot about what obesity plays a part in regulating insulin. And I think that's like a discussion. that isn't talked about enough. So make sure you go back to that original episode because if you're not familiar with Obesogens, if you're struggling to get your insulin under control and diet and fasting is not working for you, please go listen to the first episode that I did with him because he's the master
Starting point is 00:03:45 right now. He is so incredible to talk to about insulin resistance. And so the first time I brought him on, we really talked about Obesagens and Placetians and plastics and how that ties into regulating insulin. But this time, I wanted to go into fasting windows. I wanted to go into foods that we need to avoid. And so many of you have asked me about, why don't I do more episodes on fasting? You watch my YouTube channel.
Starting point is 00:04:12 You are ordered fast like a girl. You know that fasting is my thing. And so you're looking for more of those discussions. So I brought Ben on to talk about the effects of fasting on on insulin resistance and the length of fasting. The other thing I learned from Ben this year, and I've learned this from a couple other guests, is the power of protein
Starting point is 00:04:34 and how we can use protein as our go-to macro to really help with our overall ability to bring insulin into our cells. So that was Ben. Probably the highlight of my season was really bringing that episode to you because it's so useful for your. for your health. So please make sure that you check that one out. I also brought on Morgan Nolte, who is a insulin resistance expert, and she's a nutritionist. So it's interesting, Ben's a researcher.
Starting point is 00:05:07 So Ben Bickman is a researcher. And so it's really fun to hear the clinical. But then there's the application of how do you apply the techniques you hear that we're recommending will move the needle forward on making you more insulin sensitive. So Morgan was really interesting because she talked more about the application and what it would look like in the day to day to keep yourself insulin sensitive. So those were my two big insulin resistance episodes. They were two of the favorites of the season. So if you want to know the science and you want to know the application of how you get yourself out of insulin resistance, please, please, please go listen to that. Okay, the second category, and this is one I love to talk about, and you're going to hear a lot more of this in season three is hormones.
Starting point is 00:06:00 And not just women's hormones. So although women, I really wanted to bring you more information on how we time our foods, our fast, our, how we time our exercise. Like, you know, once you grab this fast like a girl idea and you start to see that estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone have different needs, you start kind of asking yourself like, okay, well, what else do I need to know about when these hormones come in and out? So definitely a season favorite was Stephanie Estima. She and I have paired up twice now to do and ask me anything. This was actually a request on her Instagram page on how can we start, how could she and I collaborate and bring our minds together? We think very similar and we also differ in a few areas. So the ask me anythings you all loved. And,
Starting point is 00:06:59 you know, it's, think of it like if you could sit in a room with Stephanie and I and talk about, ask us any questions about keto and insulin and hormones and exercise for hormones. That's what this episode was. I specifically on the most recent Ask Me Any if anything with her, I specifically want to start to dive into exercise. How do we time different exercises to our menstrual cycle? So whether you're post-menopausal or having an active cycle, that is a really helpful episode. We got great feedback on it. So please make sure that you check that out. And then Cynthia Thurlow, to give you a little background on that, Cynthia and I are really the only two health influencers out there talking about women and fasting.
Starting point is 00:07:55 So she has a great book that came out in March that highlights one specific fast for women, the 16-8 fast. It's one of the biggest research studies ever done was done on 16-8. So it's a great way to zero in on one specific fast. And it's a beautiful compliment to Fast Like a Girl because in Fast Like a Girl, I talk about six different lengths fasts. So they're kind of companion manuals that will go together once my book comes out. And what I really wanted to do in this episode was talk about metabolic flexibility for women. So it's so interesting to me because what I see is that we want to put ourselves in absolutes.
Starting point is 00:08:45 We want to know what's the right diet, what's the right fast for us. But really, the body doesn't work like that. It doesn't work in absolutes. What we need is for us to be metabolically flexible. How can we thrive when we eat? You know, when you eat a meal, you shouldn't be sleepy. You should be energized. And how can we thrive when we move into a fasted state?
Starting point is 00:09:08 So remember, you are a sugar burner and a fat burner, and you want to access both of these, these energize. systems. So we want to make sure that you are mastering both of them. So when you come to fasting, you are learning for the first time how to master the fat burner system. But we also still need to master how to make sure that we're eating so that our blood sugar is balancing well. And so Cynthia and I talked about both of those concepts. And how do you keep your metabolic flexibility and switch in and out of those two states. How do you do that in a way that has you energized and losing weight all timed around your hormones? So again, this is a missing, missing ingredient. I'm watching
Starting point is 00:09:56 so many podcasts out there, so many Instagram reels and TikToks that are really advocating for. There's a one-size-fits-all for fasting and food. But that's not, that's not an accurate statement. It's learning the art of switching in and out that's so important. And so that episode with Cynthia and I, Cynthia Thurlow and I, it was incredible. So please go listen to that one as well. And then for the first timer, and Cynthia's come on twice now to the resetter podcast, a first timer that I brought on was John Gray. Now this was fascinating.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I've learned a lot from talking to John. And let me tell you what he's really bringing to the hormone conversation right now. His most recent book is called Beyond Venus and Mars. And what he wanted to do with that book was really talk about how women are in a much more driver, testosterone-driven-driven world with working. And many men are actually moving more to staying in more of like a at-home, stay-at-home dad role. So we have some role traditional role reversals, although I will tell you as that is the scenario, it was the scenario in my household when our kids were growing up, that we're seeing more and more and more dad staying at home.
Starting point is 00:11:24 We're seeing more and more women out into the workforce. But what is that, what is that doing to our hormones? And so in that episode is what I, my biggest takeaway from that one is if you're a woman and you are driving testosterone all day long, when you get home, you need to rebalance that testosterone with doing activities that raise estrogen. And they were activities like coming home and doing anything that brings you joy. Estrogen for women will be, we'll start to rise when we are in joy. We also can increase estrogen when we are in communication with each other. So, women loved a verbally process. He talks in the episode about how therapy is more utilized by
Starting point is 00:12:15 women. But if you think about that, part of the reason behind that is because women raise estrogen when we verbally process. So we go to a therapist and verbally process and our estrogen goes up. So there's actually a hormonal benefit to that, which is crazy. And then he even talked about how men need to balance their testosterone and estrogen out by men do better going into what he calls the man cave and really, you know, doing like physical labor. The things that will rebalance testosterone and estrogen for a man tend to be a little more traditional what we've seen in our culture. So it's really fascinating. I can tell you I came out of that conversation with a whole bunch of interesting information that my husband and I talked about a lot.
Starting point is 00:13:08 So, you know, it's very traditional. And it testosterone behaves in a traditional way. Estrogen behaves in a traditional way. So please, when you listen to that episode, just have insight into yourself, into your loved ones, and know that we can use behavior to balance hormones. So it's a really beautiful discussion. and I was excited to bring that one to you. Now, the other one is that a lot of you guys are putting in the principles of keto.
Starting point is 00:13:41 So the third topic outside of hormones and insulin resistance that I brought you is I really wanted to talk about how do you master keto? And here's the problem when you go to try to figure out how to master keto is and to bring keto experts on. Is a lot of keto experts are believe in absolutes. There's one way to do keto. I don't believe in that. I believe in cycling keto in and out.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman. So I wanted to make sure that whatever discussion I had with keto, I wanted to make sure it wasn't with somebody who believed in flexing in and out of keto. And my friend Ben Azadi, he is the founder of the keto camp podcast. If you're not familiar with Ben, please go check out his podcast because he wrote a book called KetoFlex. And it talks about how do you flex in and out of keto? How do you, when do you know to go into keto?
Starting point is 00:14:39 When do you know to stay out of keto? And what we did in the episode with Ben is it wasn't Ask Me Anything as well. So it was your questions. It was, wow, it was a definite crowd favorite. Both the Ask Me Anything with Stephanie Estima and Ben Azadi, like you all, your reviews, the feedback you gave us was insane. Like you really, really loved those practical episodes. So make sure if you haven't listened to the Ask Me Anything episodes I've done with those two beautiful humans,
Starting point is 00:15:15 please go listen to it because it was really, really a fun experience to do. And I think of all the episodes that I've done in the whole time of the Resetter podcast, it was really answering a lot of your specific questions you have around fasting, hormones, and the ketogenic diet. Now, the fourth one that was a real popular one that you all loved was with Dr. B. And so he wrote a book called Fiber Fuel. It's really fun because he has the same literary agent as I do. And so we both love her dearly. she's just such an not just a beautiful agent but an incredible agent but a beautiful human and so on
Starting point is 00:16:04 the episode with him it was we talked about the microbiome and gut repair now what is very complicated i put myself in your shoes a lot and what was really complicated what's really complicated about food is that we have let's just say Stephen Gundry out there saying no No vegetables. If you haven't followed Stephen recently, has some modifications to that. And then we have the carnivore people that say no vegetables. Like those are harmful to the gut. And then you've got Dr. B.
Starting point is 00:16:42 That Dr. Will Buschwitz, we call him Dr. B. We've got him saying, no, you need fiber to fuel your microbiome. So how do we rectify those two things? And so we talk about that in his discussion. I bring up like, okay, well, what do we think about oxalates and lectins when you're looking at fiber? And he is, I think what I like about this episode and what you all loved about it is he's a great teacher. He is so good at explaining things in a simple way. So if you're confused on the microbiome and gut health, please go listen to that episode.
Starting point is 00:17:23 because again, what I hope you're going to hear from me throughout, you know, all my episodes is that I'm teaching you how to think for yourself and find the right path for you. I'm not advocating for one specific way. I feel like there's many ways to put your health together. And most importantly, there's your way, your individual way. We got into this chronic disease problem because we're looking for a one-size-fits-all plan for health care. There is not a one-size-fits-all. You have a unique set of genetics with a unique set of bacteria that requires certain lifestyle habits to allow your health to thrive.
Starting point is 00:18:09 And in Dr. B's episode, I really talked about how important it is to bring fiber back into your diet. and he explains it in a very clear way that hopefully you will benefit greatly from. I also had a great discussion with Dr. William Davis. I've been a fan of his forever, and wheat belly really revolutionized the way that we look at gluten. But he has a new book out called Supergut, and we talked about specifically fermented foods, foods you could do at home so that and make it home to benefit your microbiome. We talked about specific bacteria that you want to feed with certain yogurts. He has a very cool yogurt that you can make at home.
Starting point is 00:19:00 And so we talked about how to make this yogurt, why it's working, what he's seen. What I think I'd liked on that episode with William Davis is that like me, when I teach you guys fasting. I'm not just teaching you fasting from the science perspective. I'm teaching you fasting from what I see is working, hundreds of thousands of people. So he is teaching you what he's seeing with hundreds of thousands of people using fermented foods to not only heal the gut, but specifically improve moods. So make sure that you listen to that episode as well. And then the last category that I put together for you is what I call putting a health plan together. How do you take all of this information and synthesize it into a health plan that works for you? Now, if you are not
Starting point is 00:19:55 familiar with my reset academy, this is what we do in that academy is really teach the foundation of customizing a fasting lifestyle for you. So know that that's available for you if you're struggling with that concept. But the two conversations, well, actually three conversations that I had this year, bringing you some really specific concepts to help you navigate your own health plan. One was with Bill Cole. I love Bill again because he thinks in a very similar manner to me, get to the root cause. It's not always one thing that moves the needle with your health. You have to put several things together. We call it a multi-therapeutic approach. We talked a lot about autoimmunity.
Starting point is 00:20:43 So that was in the Bill Cole episode. Mona Sharma is a good friend of mine, and we have been working together in Jesse Itzler's group. We're mentors in that group and have gotten to know each other. If you're not familiar with Mona, she was the nutritionist for Will Smith and his family. And so she talks about not only food and creating a great food plan for you, but she also has a life coach piece to her. And so we brought tied in some concepts around where spirituality fits into your health plan. And it's another perspective for you to learn how to take all this information and make it your own and allow you to thrive with it.
Starting point is 00:21:32 And then the last one on putting your health together that you all really loved was with Heather McKee. And it was a lot of habits. Like, how do you change your habits? Because it's really one thing for me to bring you guests that give you insight. It's another thing for me to bring you people like Mona and Bill that teach you how to put a plan together. But then how do we change our habits? Like that's all like great until you actually go to put it into action. action. So I wanted to bring you somebody that could really help you with your habits and
Starting point is 00:22:08 overcoming any habit hurdles. So Heather McKee is an expert in redefining habits. So I brought you a great conversation. Once again, she really gives steps. This is not one of those podcast interviews where it's kind of light information. This is a podcast interview, which really teaches you how to put the steps together. So those were the big categories that I gathered for you. Please know that when you leave us a review and you tell us more about what you want to hear or you tell us what you loved hearing, we're listening. We want this podcast to be incredibly helpful for you so that we can move the needle forward on your health. We live in such a cool time where information like this is accessible. where doctors like myself and Dr. Esteema and Dr. B are coming out of clinical practice and
Starting point is 00:23:12 sharing with you what they were teaching their patients. And we shared on these podcasts, which is incredible. So we want to know how we can move the needle forward for you. So please, the reviews really make a difference. And they help us see how we can customize this for you. So as always, I hope that this season was awesome. Next season, oh my gosh. Okay, for starters, we have a great theme.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Can't wait to reveal that to you. And I also have some incredible guests that I'm now connecting with and able to bring to you. So each season, you know, I will tell you we're more and more proud of it. And we're getting better and better conversations. We're getting better and better. guests who are deep thinkers. I want the deep thinkers. I don't want the superficial thinkers. I want to bring you new ways of looking at your health. I don't want to keep telling you the same thing you're hearing another podcast. So get ready for season four. It's going to be amazing.
Starting point is 00:24:18 And for those of you that ordered Fast Like a Girl and are diving into that book, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I wrote that book for you.
