This is 5-Minute Friday!
Thinking will not overcome fear, but action will.
W. Clement Stone said that.
And did you know that fear is the number one reason why people never reach their goals and dreams?
And instead of thinking about what could go right, many of us worry about what could go wrong.
And instead of thinking about what could go right, many of us worry about what could go wrong.
Whenever we want to chase our dreams, fear creeps in and asks us, what will other people think?
Will I look stupid or silly if I do this?
What if everything goes wrong?
And when we live with this type of fear and stress, it holds us back. It paralyzes us from taking action because we're so afraid of what could go wrong.
We would rather sit around and do nothing than worry about that fear and experience
it.
So we let fear win.
And if you've been living with your fears for a long time, then chances are you've been
letting the fear win over and over on your goals and dreams.
Each time you let that fear win, it grows stronger, more powerful, and more crippling. And by now,
it's become so powerful, it's a dominating force over your life. And you're going to need to take
massive action if you want to break past your biggest fears. You're going to need to go all
in on your fears until the fear disappears. Don't try to focus on all your fears at once.
Pick one major fear at a time and then dive deep into it.
Taking action and challenging yourself every day until the fear stops winning and your
belief wins out.
That's exactly what I've done to conquer my biggest challenges and fears my entire life.
It's something I still do now.
I remember I used to be crippled to speak in front of three people, 10 people.
I could not do it.
I would stutter.
I would sweat. I could not do it. I would stutter. I
would sweat. I was embarrassed. I felt ashamed of myself because I sounded like an idiot.
And for me, it held me back. And I remember meeting a mentor when I was in my early 20s,
who was a professional public speaker. And he gave me the wisdom. I said, how do you have so
much confidence? How do you do this? How do you speak in front of people every week and get paid
to speak? And he said, you've got to go all in. He gave me a strategy. You need to do it every single week.
Join Toastmasters, get feedback, film yourself, feel the embarrassment until the embarrassment
goes away because you're taking so much action and improvement week after week. And every single
week that year, I joined a public speaking class. I went every week and it was horrible.
The first three months, the first six months, it was challenging.
But every week I got a little bit better.
And each time I went into my fears, I gained a little bit more confidence.
And by the end of the year, I felt like I could go stand in front of 100,000 people
and share my story and share wisdom.
And that was a powerful experience for me because I proved to myself that the fear was
not going to cripple me anymore.
I did the same thing with salsa dancing.
I went to a salsa club one time in my early 20s and was terrified because I didn't want
people to laugh at me.
I didn't want to make mistakes.
I didn't want to look like I was an idiot.
But after months of living in that fear, I said enough was enough.
And I eventually went all in.
I obsessed over it.
I went all in every day on practicing it, watching YouTube tutorials on how to dance salsa,
going to private lessons, going to group lessons, going out and making a fool of myself.
You see, you need to make a fool of yourself to realize that you're still going to be alive the next day.
If you don't embarrass yourself, then you're never going to try.
You need to start embracing looking like a fool, embarrassing yourself, failing on the first try,
because you cannot succeed on your first try at something that you're afraid of. It's going to
take time. And when you take enough action against your fear, your mind will learn to stop listening
to it. You'll turn your focus into what could go right. The
possibilities when you start taking action on a consistent basis, the months and years ahead,
when you have that skill, when you've overcome that fear, imagine what could go right, not what
could go wrong. And then once you've told the fear to shut up, you can finally start going all in on
your greatest dreams without it holding you back. I'm telling you, go all in
on your fears. This one strategy could be the most important thing you do tomorrow, the next few
months, and this year. It won't just set you up for success in the future, but conquering your fears
can also be extremely fun when you reframe your fears. It's not the fleeting fun you get from
playing a video game or watching Netflix or going on a hike with friends. It's not the fleeting fun you get from playing a video game or watching Netflix or going
on a hike with friends. It's the kind of fun that fills you with energy and power. It makes you feel
unstoppable and alive and gives you this inner spirit to take on the world and create your dream
life. And once you get over your fears, that's exactly what you'll be able to do. But if they
keep on holding you back and controlling you and consuming your energy, then you you'll be able to do. But if they keep on holding you back
and controlling you and consuming your energy,
then you'll never be able to fully go after what you want.
So that's why you must go all in on your fears
until the fears disappear.
And I want to leave you with this quote
from Jack Canfield who said,
everything you want is on the other side of fear.
If you want something,
you must go all in on the
thing that's holding you back until it doesn't hold you back anymore. I want to remind you,
you are loved, you are worthy, and you matter. And it doesn't matter if you look like a failure
or if it doesn't work out right away. The act of doing it, the act of overcoming it, the process,
the journey is a beautiful thing. And you are a beautiful human being right now. I'm so
grateful for you and you know what time it is. It's time to go out there and do something great.
