This is 5-Minute Friday, episode number 180, and you matter.
Margaret Mead said,
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it's the only thing that ever does.
I want you to pause with me for a moment and think about your life.
How often do you notice the beauty of this moment? How many times do you literally stop to smell
the roses? And when did you last really listen to that song that is your favorite song?
The last time you truly savored and welled up with gratitude for a satisfying meal? Do you remember the last
time you said I love you to your family? Have you felt that sweet blessing of forgiveness or
released the chains and forgiven someone yourself? So many of these sensations pass us by as we pace
the treadmill life we have created. Time spins on faster each year and soon your memories are
measured in decades and then generations. I want you to imagine for a moment that you can stop
time. In your mind's eye, see your favorite memories and most precious scenes. The birth
of your child, your college graduation, the day your father came home from the hospital
recovered.
What is your most prized memory?
Chances are it involves someone you love and who loves you.
Most likely the connection you had with that person or place was so profound that it withstood
the test of time and is permanently etched on your heart.
Who would you be without that person in your memory today?
They made such a big impact in your life that when asked about your most magical moments,
they showed up and made you smile.
Imagine what a difference one person can make,
that they are the most precious memory of another's life.
I guarantee you that for at least one person in your life, you inhibit the most precious
moment.
You are that powerful, that important, and you matter that much.
Jane Goodall said, what you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference
you want to make.
Now, many people are told or tell themselves that they are insignificant.
Maybe there are no words spoken to you, but your response to the neglect or abuse you experienced was to tell yourself a certain story.
The story that you didn't matter.
you didn't matter because you thought, how could you be significant if someone you love could treat you as if you were a speck of dirt to be dismissed?
Your heart was broken, maybe over and over.
And each time it cracked, you drove the message deeper into your soul that you truly didn't
matter.
So what is the point of this life?
You asked yourself to suffer, survive, and then die.
You erected walls around you to protect yourself and keep the world out. Not realizing that you
were simply building your own airtight prison. What a heavy burden to carry. The real truth is
you do matter. When you shine, I'm able to shine.
When you live your life to the fullest, so can I.
We lead each other to happiness and joy.
We pick each other up when we fall.
We take care of each other when we are sick.
We cheer each other on when all hope has been lost.
We are in this together.
You matter.
We all matter.
As John F. Kennedy said, one person can make a
difference and everyone should try. Be a part of someone's favorite memory. Be yourself and know
that you really do matter. Be the great person you were born to be. Be that person because you matter.
be. Be that person because you matter. This was 5-Minute Friday, episode number 180. Thank you so much for tuning in each and every Friday and every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday when we release
