This is 5-Minute Friday, episode number 256.
You've got to find the edge, but don't go over it.
Welcome, everyone.
This is all about finding the edge, the edge of life.
Neil Donald Walsh said,
life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
That comfort zone that you're always living in
is holding you back from living your life
to the fullest, from living your dreams, from having what your wildest dreams really is,
from having it all.
The challenge is some of us tend to push the edge a little too far.
And this last week, I did just that.
I pushed the edge a little too far.
And this last week, I did just that.
I pushed the edge a little too far.
I've been going, burning the candle at both ends for the last month with very little sleep, traveling.
I've been to 11 different cities in the last few weeks alone.
And I haven't taken enough time to recover, to relax.
And I pushed the edge too many days.
Now, I'm all for going hard and going all in and giving everything you got.
But you got to make sure you understand your health and so that you don't go over the edge,
but you go just to the edge every single moment.
Go just to the edge.
Now, the thing is, I went to an event earlier this week called Summit at Sea,
and we were on a cruise ship for about three days.
And for a few weeks prior to that, I hadn't really slept.
And then I decided to stay up all night every night during this cruise and had an incredible time, met amazing people, got some great guests to come on the podcast.
Learned a lot, but realized that I pushed the edge a little too far.
So I got a great reminder, and that was having a fever. That was having a little too far. So I got a great reminder and that was having a fever,
that was having a sore lower back, that was not being able to walk outside because I was in a lot of pain. So I got to recover for the last three days and I'm still in recovery phase, but it was
a reminder that, okay, we're human. There's an edge. We get to push to the edge. But if we go over the edge too many
days in a row, our body's going to break down. Our mind is going to break down. We're not going
to be able to have the full energy we want. So I've had to postpone a few big things over the
last couple of days that I was supposed to do. But instead, since I pushed the edge and I went
too far, I've had to recover. And that's just where I'm at.
So life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
But you've got to know where the edge is so you don't go over it and ruin your life.
So be aware.
That means every day checking with yourself.
Are you getting enough sleep?
Are you taking enough time for yourself?
Are you decompressing enough each day and doing
things that help you relax and recover? Are you spending time doing your hobbies or are you only
focused on working 12, 15 hours a day on your work to make money? Because if you do that for too long,
you will burn out. You will get overweight. You'll become unhappy. You'll become emotionally
distressed and it's not worth it. It's worth fighting for your dreams. It's
worth going all out, but it's not worth going over the edge too many times to where you hurt yourself
and ultimately don't give yourself enough energy to be able to sustain it over time.
So my message for you today is to be aware of where you're currently at in your life, in your health. Be aware of your edge every single day.
I'm all for pushing it to the limit, getting right on the edge of that cliff.
But if you jump off a few too many times,
you're going to hit your head on the rocks going on the way down,
and it's going to be a long road to recovery.
So my friends, make sure you're playing all out in your life.
Make sure you're giving all out in your life. Make sure you're giving it
all you got. Make sure you're playing with your heart, laying it on the table every single day,
but also make sure you're doing the things you need to, to recover. You're getting enough sleep.
You're following those habits in the morning, your rituals at night, you're doing what it takes
and you're giving yourself time to recover after you've gone all out for a period of time.
Life is about seasons.
You've got to make sure you are playing all out and then you recover.
Play all out and then you recover.
