This is episode number four, six, two, five minute Friday.
Understand your energy.
Wow.
I am literally exhausted.
Now, when I used to play college football, I used to have this feeling that I had today,
but I more so got it around playoff time, around the championship games, around the big playoffs, around the tournaments that mattered the most when everything was on the line.
and how to manage it and how to balance it.
Because I'll never forget when I was a junior in high school on the varsity team,
we were playing against a basketball team in the playoffs.
And this was a state championship team that we were playing against.
We were pretty even with them throughout the year. And I felt like we had an amazing chance of beating them.
And I was so pumped because this was
our chance to really make a run as our high school team hadn't really done anything in the playoffs
in the state and state championship playoffs at all and so I never forget the night before I am
so amped up I am like pumped up I'm running around I'm doing push-ups you know I'm just so hyped up
the next day at school I'm like running around like crazy. After school, it's a night game.
So after school, I remember going to the grocery store and getting a bunch of candy
and just screaming, like, we're going to the playoffs, like screaming
and being so excited, so hyper that when we got into the locker room to change
for this basketball game and we got to warm-ups,
I remember feeling like I couldn't even run in the layup drill and do the warm-up free throws and the layups. I was so
exhausted. I didn't understand my energy at that time. I didn't understand how to manage it, how to
make it work for me, and I really abused my energy, and it didn't work for me. Now, that game
was a frustrating one because even though I was
exhausted, I had zero energy, but I still remember getting like 18 points and it came down to the
last shot. I actually took the last shot. We were down by three points and there was a couple seconds
left. I got the ball in my hand. I was trying to pass it actually to my friend who's a better
three-point shooter than me. He was double teamed. So I took the shot. The ball goes up in the air, hits the rim,
rattles in and out, and goes out. And the buzzer sounds. And we lose the game, the final shot.
And I remember being even more exhausted then. I already didn't have any energy throughout the game. I was just wheeling my way to try to score.
But this was even just complete exhaustion.
Now, I don't have the exact same feeling as that right now,
but I do have a feeling of getting ready and amped up for a big game,
a big playoff game, a big game, because today I just went on the Ellen Show.
And for me, I remember years
ago watching the Ellen show and seeing these big influencers and celebrities come on and dance with
Ellen. And I remember having a vision in my mind years ago that one day I want to get on Ellen and
I want to dance next to Ellen and share my story and share the story of what I've been up to and how I've
overcome great odds and how I'm pursuing my dreams. And that happened today. That happened.
And we even did a little hip bump dance together where I was like bumping our hips together. And
I remember having that same vision. And I told this to her within the first couple of minutes of the show.
I said, Ellen, you know, the crazy thing is this was a dream of mine.
When I was broke and had nothing, this was something that I always wanted to do.
So thank you for allowing my dream to come true.
However, I was so, I meditated this morning.
I did some Wim Hof breathing.
I did an elliptical for 20 minutes. I was like chilled out the whole day
because I know from training
and studying from the greatest minds in the world,
the greatest sports psychologists,
that on game day,
you have to bring your heart rate down.
You're already getting hyped up for game day
and you've got to learn to slow down
because everything's going to feel that much faster.
So I did that the whole day.
I was slowing down. I went and got the whole day. I was slowing down.
I went and got a foot rub.
I was chilled out.
But for some reason, my energy just was still so high inside.
Even though I was relaxed on the outside, my heart rate was up.
It was challenging for me to slow it down.
And I think I was just so excited and so grateful for the opportunity to connect.
And kind of, again, I like to bring things full circle.
So for me, this was a big full circle moment.
But I knew my energy.
And about 20 minutes before I went on, I could feel like my heart getting a little tighter
and just, you know, little nerves.
And I haven't felt that in a long time.
It was actually a lot of fun to feel those nerves. I spoke in Miami a few days previously
to 2,200 people and people were like, are you nervous backstage? And I was like, no,
I speak a lot. I'm not really nervous at all. Even going on stage and looking out to a couple
thousand people, I wasn't nervous. I was there. I was ready. It's something I'd done over and over
and over again and practiced and experienced. And even though I've been interviewed a bunch, I've never been interviewed
on Ellen's stage with a live audience in a whole different format. And it was a big moment for me.
So for me, it was amazing. But I understood my energy. And I knew where it was coming from. And
I knew I needed to slow down. And I want you to
understand that if you have a dream inside of you, there are going to be big moments that happen.
It's going to happen. And when that comes, you need to understand your energy. You need to
understand how to manage and slow down your energy when big moments come. Otherwise, you're unable to be present.
And if you can't be present when the time comes, then you may miss the opportunity.
That's why we get to practice these things on a daily basis.
That's why it's important to visualize the dreams coming true and understanding what
it's going to feel like before it happens.
In order to get something we've never had, we must do something we've never done.
But we must practice what we've never done in our mind and feel it in our body
so that it feels normal when the day comes, when the Super Bowl comes,
you're able to understand and manage your energy.
I hope you guys enjoyed this one.
And yes, it was an incredible journey being on The Ellen Show today.
And I was just so grateful for her and for Scooter Braun for facilitating that and making
it happen.
And it comes out April 3rd.
So set your DVRs for April 3rd if you're in the US to watch The Ellen Show that day.
PRs for April 3rd if you're in the U.S. to watch the Ellen show that day.
And there is a call to action that Ellen talks about at the end that I think is huge.
And it's going to be a lot of fun.
So make sure to stick around to see, one, what I talked about, two, the dance move that I did, and three, the call to action at the end.
I love you guys very much.
