This is 5-Minute Friday, episode number 504, Own Your Worth.
There's an unknown quote out there that goes like this,
When you learn how much you're worth, you'll stop giving people discounts.
Yes, this is such an important concept to understand.
People value us only as much as we value ourselves
in our relationships, in our business,
our career, our health.
If we think and act like we're worthless,
this will directly reflect in how we're treated by others.
But if we think and act like we're priceless,
which all of us are,
then the people around us will treat us the same.
Now, I remember when I didn't have much self-worth at all. When I was broke, living on my sister's
couch, lost my dream, living off three credit cards, didn't have a college degree yet, tons of
college debt, and had no skills to my name. I remember thinking, why would anyone
ever pay me for anything? What is my worth? Where is my value? How am I going to do something in my
life different from where I'm at? And I remember learning from mentors. The things they taught me
were so key in that time. And what they told me was you need to master skills.
When I was broke, I focused on mastering new skills.
I learned online marketing.
I learned product design, product development.
I learned sales.
I learned how to get press.
I learned networking at trade shows.
I learned public speaking.
Heck, I learned salsa dancing.
I was just figuring out what are all the skills that I could learn to master.
And every time I started to gain a little bit farther on any skill, I got more confident
at that thing.
And when I got more confident at the skill, I gained more confidence and self-worth in
myself.
And the more I mastered these things, I started to get results in my life. I started to see myself
stand a little taller, speak a little clearer, have more confidence and self-worth when I entered
a room around successful people. I wasn't dimming my light because I felt like I was worthless.
I was taking the actions necessary to develop my self-worth. And I remember with each skill that I mastered, I started to charge a little bit
when I had something to offer.
And as more demand came in from my services
and from my knowledge,
I started to charge a little more and a little more.
And as I gained more confidence and mastered a skill,
I would charge more.
And this is the process.
When we master a skill that adds value to the world,
we can start to charge.
We can start to do things differently.
We can start to make a little more money or have more opportunities.
But it all starts with our self-worth.
And this is the deal.
Your worth starts with you guys.
If you show up and own it, then you don't need to give a discount to anyone.
And there is no better investment you can make than in your own self-worth.
Boom.
You can do this through reading books, taking workshops, getting coaching, doing meditation,
going to therapy, finding mentors, developing solid relationships with good people,
practicing positive self-talk daily, doing something that you can master.
Whatever it is you need to do, you've got to be willing to take the actions to gain the confidence.
And then the confidence is going to help you in your worth.
Whatever you need to do,
always, always, always invest in your self-worth.
Because once you learn how much you're worth,
you'll stop giving people discounts.
I hope you enjoyed this one, guys.
It's all about how we show up in the world.
And if we show up in the world feeling like we're not worth much, then we're probably not going to get much.
But if we show up in the world knowing our worth, this humble confidence, this graceful confidence of just owning who we truly are. And that comes from
doing hard work to master a skill and putting the energy and effort in to add value to the world.
So really think about what is that thing you want to start to master? How are you going to add more
value to other people? How are you going to develop a relationship with yourself that's different from
where it's at now to help you get to where you want to be? This is 5-Minute Friday, lewishouse.com

this could support in their journey, their discovery, their own self-growth, then make
