This is 5-Minute Friday!
My friend, thank you so much for being here on this 5-Minute Friday.
This is a special one because this was a big week for the School of Greatness.
Now, I got to sit down with the one and only Kevin Hart
to learn about what makes him tick and get inside his mind.
And seriously, he gave me so many tips about hard work, attitude, managing relationships,
how to come back from a setback, and so much more that I know I'm going to be able to apply
this to my life.
And it was a long journey to make this interview happen.
Let me tell you, I have been talking with Kevin Hart's team for years.
I looked back at my emails to
check. It's been almost five years. I've been going back and forth month after month, trying
to find the right time when he's available. And this is the perfect timing. And I actually had my
first conversation with Kevin a little over a year ago, and it was unexpected. It was behind the
scenes. I'm friends with his trainer. and I was going through some challenging times in
my personal life and his trainer reached out to me one day and put Kevin on the
phone.
So big shout out to Ron for connecting us and we talked for about 25,
30 minutes and I'm so grateful for that time we had together where he gave me
some sound advice then when I was going through some challenges and adversity in my personal life. And right now he's out with a new audio book,
sharing those lessons with the world. And if you haven't listened to my full interview with him yet,
make sure to go and do that as soon as you finish here. But first,
here are my three biggest takeaways from my Kevin Hart interview.
from my Kevin Hart interview.
The first big takeaway is what winning is all about.
And if you followed my journey,
you know that I used to be a dangerously competitive human being,
especially in sports and business back in the day.
All I did was think about winning.
And in some ways, it helped me and supported me to achieve my goals.
In other ways, it hurt me, specifically in relationships.
And I've evolved my view.
And Kevin had an unbelievably powerful definition about winning.
It's a bigger win when you show other people how to win.
Opening up a door and allowing some people to come through the door and figuring it out so they can open up more doors.
That's a win.
I love this definition because I think winners are those
that can help other people win around them
and where everyone rises.
As opposed to building the tallest building,
looking down at everyone else,
it's how do you grow your building
and bring everyone up to your level as well.
And Kevin is super successful.
He's so confident,
but he doesn't need to achieve things at the expense
of other people and other people going through challenges. Picking others up around you is so
important and your success can breed success in others and the world needs elevation. Secondly,
Kevin said he could not have built his entertainment empire without the right home. This was huge for me. His personal peace is essential
to his professional prosperity. And it's not like it's been super easy for him. He had to overcome
the mistakes of his own infidelity to creating a loving and stable relationship with his wife,
trust with his family, but the work mattered and the results mattered.
but the work mattered and the results mattered.
Strongest person in the world and held me accountable.
It wasn't a walk in the park, but it was her understanding.
But we don't let the outside world affect our inside.
And I credit her for setting that tone.
I don't know we're stronger.
And I love the way that Kevin talks about his wife and how she's one of the strongest people out there.
And I think when you know you have a great support system,
you should do your best to try to elevate them
and acknowledge them as much as possible.
Because especially if you're out there
trying to build your business
and grow this dream that you might have,
you got to make sure that you have the right people by your side
and acknowledging their support in your dreams.
And finally, I want to mention Kevin's Twitter bio.
Here's what it reads.
It says, my name is Kevin Hart and I work hard with three exclamation points.
That pretty much sums me up.
Everyone wants to be famous, but nobody wants to do the work.
I love that bio. No mention of his movies or his standup or his Netflix series or his audio book, nothing, just hard work. And he
kept coming back to that theme in our conversation. Check this out. There are no easy roads. So when
I was coming up and I'm not getting the auditions I'm not getting the opportunities
I had to say to myself it's going to come if I put the work in it has no choice but to come
I'm all about the importance of hard work for me studying school was very challenging growing up
and it didn't deter me from still going after
and chasing my desired dreams.
You can work hard
and not be the smartest
or the most skilled person
and still get incredible results.
You know, Kevin will say
he wasn't the funniest person,
but he was willing to work hard
and utilize his strengths
to outwork people
and eventually build a platform
where millions of people
around the world love and admire his work.
