This is 5-Minute Friday!
Here's a quote from Mel Robbins.
The time is now. Stop hitting the snooze button on your life.
Welcome to the halfway mark of the year.
Fourth of July is here, and we're in the beginning of July,
the midway point of the year.
And things are weird.
Man, things are really weird.
You know, there's no fireworks
happening this weekend
in Los Angeles anywhere.
You can't go out and do much.
They closed the beaches again.
Coronavirus is spiking again. There's just a lot of unhappiness, suffering, and challenge and pain in the world. And now is the perfect time for
you to take inventory on your life, where you're at, your relationships, your health, your finances,
your career. And you probably had a lot of dreams and plans that were derailed this year,
whether it was professional or personal,
whether you lost your job or your business went under.
40 million people unemployed in the U.S.
Weddings have been canceled and called off.
Trips have been put on pause.
Traveling halted. Promotions have been put and called off. Trips have been put on pause, traveling halted, promotions have been put on hold, and so on. And what you do in this moment is crucial to your future.
What's most important right now is how you rebound and recalibrate your vision,
your decisions, and your life when your plans get off track.
What do you do with your thoughts?
And the words you use during this time can either help you get ahead or they can continue
to hold you back.
I think of a couple moments.
Chad Wright, the Navy SEAL who we had on, talked about your tongue is a rudder for your
body.
It guides you. The words you speak
into existence guide you to the direction of your life, guide you into negative opportunities or
positive ones, guide you into abundance or scarcity. Literally, he says he does not speak
negative things into existence because then it will guide his body and his energy towards negative results.
So make sure the words you are using right now are not focused on gossip, on negativity,
on what you lack, on who screwed you over, on what's wrong with the government, on what's
happening in the world.
Don't speak negative words.
It's hurting you.
It's killing you.
It's keeping you back from your dreams.
You know, Marissa Peer and Sian Bylock talk about the power of thoughts and treating yourself
with compassion.
You know, make sure that you are your biggest cheerleader.
A lot of us say horrible things to ourselves in our mind that you would never say to your
best friend, but you don't treat yourself like a best friend.
So stop treating yourself
like an enemy with the negative words and thoughts you speak in your mind. This is an opportunity for
growth. This is an opportunity for reevaluation, for taking inventory. And that's what's important
right now. Take a deep breath, meditate, come from a place of vision of what you want to create in the future,
no matter where you're at in this moment. Start writing down your dreams, writing down your goals.
Even if everything got derailed, it's time to take inventory and figure out what is most
important to you in your life right now. You know, we become scatterbrained because we
think too much about all the different opportunities in life or all the things that aren't working in our favor in life or all the people that are hurting us or have made us angry or that we're resentful of.
But when we get clear on our vision, I'm talking about taking it out of your mind and putting it down on paper or writing it down on your computer and having a clear vision of what you want to work
towards. You know, Jordan Peterson says that we must go in some direction. Any direction is better
than no direction. It doesn't matter if it works out perfectly, but moving forward is the key.
You know, if we constantly are scatterbrained and if we're constantly not sure which direction to go,
that means we are stuck in no man's land.
And no man's land is where all the vultures of the world come to pick at your dying body, your dying thoughts, your dying energy.
This is where the negative stuff comes to feed.
You don't want to be stuck in no man's land.
You want to be moving forward.
It doesn't matter if it's the right direction or the wrong direction.
Moving forward will get you clearer and clearer on the path you need to be on.
But you must take your vision of the life that you want, the skills you want to develop,
the talents you want to develop, the things you want to be working towards.
You must get them out of your mind, onto paper, and get clarity of how you're going to do it next.
Start creating that system, that support, those tools on how you're going to do it next. Start creating that system, that support,
those tools on how you're going to make them happen
one step at a time.
This is what the School of Greatness is here for,
to provide those tools for you.
And Mel Robbins talks about the great pause.
Right now has been a great pause for all of us.
And every disruption is an opportunity for growth.
So make sure you take inventory on all the
things that have disrupted your life right now and think about what you can learn from them.
Think about how you can grow. This is what this moment is for. It's the halfway mark. It's time
to get out of everything that's happened right now and start moving towards a new direction.
I don't care if we're stuck in quarantine for a year.
I don't care if you go through a divorce or business goes under or a career doesn't happen.
Now is the time to reevaluate and get clear and just start taking action one day at a time,
one step at a time.
We're here for you.
We want to support you.
