Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors.
Hey friend, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
This episode is a guided meditation to help you if you're in a state of high anxiety, stress, or worry.
No matter how you're feeling right now, in the next 10 minutes, we will guide your mind and body into a calm and relaxed state.
And by the end of this meditation, you will be able to handle whatever is causing that stress or anxiety in a productive and positive manner.
So go ahead and find a comfortable position that you would like to meditate in.
If you're in bed, I do recommend that you at least roll over and sit up,
but that's simply so you don't fall back asleep.
Especially for this meditation,
take the liberty to assume any position that you find most comfortable and relaxing.
Now take a deep breath in, nice and slow,
fill all the way up through your chest and your belly.
Hold at the top, and then exhale, release, and just gently close your eyes as we begin to settle into a meditative state.
Let's remember the most important things that right here and right now, you are safe.
And the peak of those negative feelings you've been experiencing has already passed.
Take another deep breath with me.
in, nice and slow, hold, exhale, even slower.
Let the exhale be longer than the inhale.
Once more together, inhale, filling up even deeper this time.
Hold, and then exhale, just let the air fall out.
No need to force anything.
Another important thing to recognize is that the state of the mind and the body go together.
When we relax the body, the mind will follow.
So soften the muscles of your face.
Just let everything relax.
Drop your jaw, release your tongue from the roof of your mouth,
and soften your shoulders down.
When we are overly stressed or anxious,
it's usually because we fear a certain outcome or situation
that we can't control.
our natural reaction is to try to control it,
which of course doesn't work.
That is heightened by all of the judgments and assumptions
we make about the source of stress.
These build on each other and make things worse in a repeating cycle.
The best way to manage this is to accept that we do not control everything
and to focus on controlling what we can
which is ourself.
So let's do that now.
Imagine you're sitting by a river,
a peaceful place of your liking,
or you're comfortable,
relaxed, and safe.
And in your hand,
you hold a flower,
any kind of flower you'd like.
A flower represents the source of your current stress,
worries, or anger.
anxiety, and it's fitting that it's a flower, because in some ways, it is a beautiful thing.
It is something you have sought out at times in life for all its appeal.
This flower is not serving you anymore.
It's not helping.
So look at that flower, that source of stress, and begin to identify the things you don't control
about that situation, each one being a petal of the flower.
And when you identify one, pluck it and say to it,
you are not helping me anymore as you release it into the river
and watch it float off far, far away.
Now begin to identify the judgments and assumptions you're making about this source of stress
again, each one being a pedal of the flower.
When you identify a judgment or an assumption you're making,
pluck that pedal from the flower.
Say to it, you're not helping me anymore
and release it into the river.
Now lastly, what's the story you're telling yourself
about this cause of stress?
What's the narrative that's playing out in your mind?
See that story, that narrative, in whatever's left of this flower.
This story isn't helping you anymore.
It's causing you pain and trouble.
So say to that flower, you're not helping me anymore as you toss it into the river and watch it float away.
With that flower gone, what remains?
Just you.
Here.
Now, peaceful place.
present, breathing, safe.
And indeed, that is exactly where you are,
not just in this visualization,
but in real life too,
because you've chosen to focus your energy
on what you can control.
Yourself, the state of your own body and your own mind,
calmness, peace, positivity.
They live inside of you.
They are always there.
And you have all of the tools and skills needed to create them at any moment.
So take a few more deep breaths at your own pace.
And just simply enjoy this feeling of relaxation that you created.
Time to wrap up our meditation.
So begin to bring yourself back.
Notice whatever's supporting you,
whether it's a chair, the floor, your bed, or something else.
Take one final deep breath in,
the deepest one you've taken yet.
And as you exhale, slowly open your eyes
and just take a moment to collect yourself.
Well, my friend, I hope you're feeling more at ease now.
Carry this sense of release and calmness with you
as you go about your day.
Remember that the river of life is always flowing
and you have the power to let go
of what no longer serves you at any time.
All you need to do is return to this practice.
Just as the lotus flower emerges from the mud,
you can rise above stress and anxiety
by finding peace and happiness within yourself.
But that's all for today.
If you enjoyed this episode, it would really mean a lot if you took a second just to leave a comment or review.
I hope to see you back here soon on Wake Me Up.
And until next time, go out and have a fantastic.
