Now, before our episode begins, here's a quick word from today's sponsors.
Hey there, welcome to Wake Me Up and to this guided meditation designed to help prepare you mentally for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year
because it's not about buying stuff and consumerism.
It's about togetherness and gratitude,
which, to be fair, can often be hard to find and enjoy
with all of the busyness around the holidays,
the emotional aspects that come with getting together with family and friends.
So I've designed this meditation to help you put those stressors aside.
And hopefully, that will allow you to enjoy this,
holiday fully. So go ahead and find a comfortable position that you'd like to meditate in.
If you're starting this episode from bed, I do recommend you at least roll over and sit up.
And that's simply so you don't fall back asleep while you meditate. But the truth is,
you can meditate in any position that you like. So do whatever works best for you.
And once you've found that comfortable position, let's take a deep breath in.
fill up all the way with nice fresh air,
and then exhale nice and slow,
and gently close your eyes.
And let's take a couple more deep breaths,
just like that, to help settle in.
So inhale, fill all the way up,
hold at the top,
and then exhale, release,
and let that exhale be longer than the inhale.
Great.
A couple more times, inhale,
Hold and exhale.
Releasing any tension along with it.
Once more, inhale.
Even deeper this time.
Hold and exhale.
Nice and slow.
Allow the muscles of your face to soften.
Relax your jaw and drop your shoulders down.
And as you physically let go.
You can also let go of the.
busyness in your life.
Leave all of that behind for now.
Just allow yourself this time to be here, now, and simply relax.
And begin to visualize yourself on Thanksgiving Day, doing whatever you'll be doing,
whether that's with family, friends, or even just at home by yourself, and see yourself
comfortable, calm, at ease.
The things in your outside life
that you may be worried about
aren't bothering you today
because you've decided to embrace this holiday time.
Work, school, responsibilities,
whatever's burdening your day-to-day life.
It's far away now.
See your smile brighten.
See your smile brighten.
posture, lift as the weight of your daily life fades away. And ask yourself, what might be
different about your holiday if you took on this mindset, approaching it with a sense of gratitude
and appreciation for a little break? What if you took this as an opportunity to take care of
yourself. To fill your cup with good feelings. What if you got some extra rest? What if you shared a
few kind words with someone who you appreciate? What if you looked for reasons to be grateful?
Take a moment now to think of some simple reasons that you have to be grateful for this holiday time.
And they don't have to be anything complicated. The fact that you have food. You have to be food.
to eat, shelter over your head, and a few moments for peace and quiet, just like you're doing
right now.
These are wonderful things to be grateful for.
And I'm sure you can find a lot more than that.
All right, there's another aspect of holiday stress that we should deal with.
And that's all of the emotional layers built up around them.
the complicated dynamics with family or friends,
the big expectations,
the touchy subjects you hope to avoid,
and sometimes a sense of loneliness.
But my friend, holidays don't have to be that way.
We don't have to put all of this pressure on these specific moments.
So envision right now in your mind.
Living your holiday time,
as easily and lightheartedly as possible.
What if you let go of the need for comparison?
What if you let go of those touchy subjects with family and friends?
What if you came to this holiday and set the tone of gratitude, appreciation,
and the simple pleasure of enjoying holiday time?
What might that look like?
How might it change your holiday?
and the memories you'll take from it.
My friend, you are surrounded by love,
and you have so much to be thankful for.
We all do.
You can choose to be a beacon of warmth,
love, acceptance, and gratitude on this holiday.
So say that to yourself now.
I choose to be a positive light.
I choose to show gratitude.
And if you do these things, then you will be a force for good, for positivity, this holiday season.
And you can find comfort in knowing that you have the inner strength to navigate any challenges that do arise with grace and gratitude.
It's about time to wrap up our meditation now.
So begin to bring yourself back.
notice whatever's supporting you,
whether that's a chair, the floor, or anything else.
Notice any sounds going on around you
and the touch of the air on your skin.
Take one final deep breath in,
the deepest one yet, then exhale, release.
And when you're ready, you can slowly open your eyes and come out of that.
Well, my friend, I hope you enjoyed this meditation
and that has put you in a good frame of mind for the upcoming holiday.
However you'll be spending your time,
I hope it's filled with love, joy, and gratitude.
Never forget that I appreciate you,
and it means so much to me that you choose to come here to wake me up.
So I hope to see you back here soon,
and until next time, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
