Now, before our episode begins, here's a quick word from today's sponsors.
Welcome to this guided meditation that will help you deal with chronic pain.
we'll use a technique called somatic reprocessing, which will help your brain relate to those
sensations differently. Begin by finding a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down.
Whatever feels right to you in this moment. Take a nice deep breath, filling all the way up
into your chest and down into your belly. Hold and then exhale, release. And as you let that air,
just fall back out. You can slowly and gently close your eyes. Let yourself settle in,
putting aside any distractions. This time is just for you to help yourself feel better.
and you deserve that.
Now take another deep breath in,
filling your lungs completely,
and then slowly let it go,
allowing your body to soften,
releasing any tension that you're holding onto,
feel the support of whatever's beneath you,
knowing that you're safe,
here, and now.
Remind yourself that this practice is a time for awareness.
a time to observe and connect with your body in a new way.
There's no need to change or try to control anything you feel.
Simply let yourself be as you are.
Now take a moment to scan your body,
noticing any areas where you might feel discomfort.
And those sensations may be familiar to you,
or they may be moving,
and shifting for now.
Choose one area of your body
where there's a sensation
that you'd like to focus on
and just rest your attention
on that area of your body,
observing whatever sensations are there,
and just being curious
about those sensations,
noticing the details
are those sensations
sharp, heavy, and dense,
observe if there's any movement.
Is it throb or pulse?
Or is it still?
And as you make these observations,
remember that this is simply a sensation,
and while it may feel unpleasant,
remind yourself that right now,
in this environment,
you are safe.
And this sensation
doesn't necessarily
signal harm or danger.
And with each breath,
remind yourself that,
mentally sending a message of safety
to that area of your body.
This is safe.
I'm safe.
There's no harm here.
And consider that this sensation may be
a bit like a smoke alarm,
beeping when there's no real fire,
a false alarm.
of sorts.
Notice how it feels to
explore this sensation
with curiosity
rather than fear
or urgency.
And as you take this time
to observe and be curious,
you may notice small shifts
in the sensation.
Or maybe you don't.
Either way, it's perfectly fine.
Because you're here to
observe without judgment or expectation.
Let's try to deepen this sense of safety a little bit more.
And you can do that by feeling a wave of relaxation,
flowing from the top of your body all the way down to your toes.
And with each and every breath,
that wave of relaxation,
repeats, easing you further and further down, softer and softer. And each wave reinforces that
message of safety. This is safe. I am safe. There's no danger here. And as you continue to breathe,
nice and easy
and those waves of relaxation
continue to pass through your body
so too
are any fears or anxieties
around this sensation
washed away
slowly and steadily removed
and as you take one more moment
to enjoy this
sense of safety
and relaxation, you can kindly remind yourself that your body is always doing its best to protect you.
Sometimes it misinterprets signals, sounding an alarm when no harm is present.
Sometimes it overreacts.
Sometimes it's trying to tell you something that you may be,
consciously ignoring.
And so it starts to become louder and louder to get your attention.
And there's only one person who can have this conversation with your body.
And that's you.
And there's no better place to have that conversation than here when you're comfortable
and safe.
by having this conversation with your body.
Know that you are retraining your mind and body
to respond to these sensations differently.
You're teaching yourself that you're safe,
resilient, and capable of approaching this sensation in a new way,
in a more productive way.
I'll take one more nice, deep breath.
The deepest one you've taken yet today,
hold at the top, and then exhale, release.
Just let that air fall back out.
And when you're ready,
you can slowly begin to bring your awareness back
to the space around you,
feeling the support of whatever's beneath you,
your body, maybe bringing a little gentle movement just to start waking yourself back up.
And when you're ready, opening your eyes, I hope you found this practice helpful, my friend.
I encourage you to save this episode, come back and repeat this process.
Training the brain to respond to sensations differently takes repetition.
For now, carry with you this sense of calm, relaxation, and safety,
knowing that each time you observe and reassure your body,
you are supporting your own healing.
