Hi, and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast, where morning people are made.
This is another meditation mini episode that's designed to help you feel grateful for yourself.
Now let's go ahead and get started.
Today we're going to do something very simple and very enjoyable.
We're going to be grateful for ourselves.
You've lived every day in your own shoes, after all.
So why not be thankful for that journey?
There's a growing body of scientific evidence
that a regular gratitude practice has wide-ranging positive effects,
like improved physical and psychological health,
better relationships, better sleep, confidence, and self-esteem.
So go ahead and find a comfortable seat.
As always, if you have a special place where you meditate, you can sit there, but if you don't, don't worry about it.
And once you find that seat, let your shoulders relax.
Let your face and your jaw relax.
And take a deep breath in.
As you exhale, gently close your eyes.
Keep breathing at your own pace.
In no rush, inhaling to fill your lungs.
completely, holding just for a moment at the top, and then exhaling. And as you take those breaths,
rest your attention on the rise and fall of your chest. Allow yourself to draw deeper and deeper,
letting go of what's going on in the world around you. If thoughts arise, like they certainly will,
just let them pass and bring your attention back to the breath.
As you watch your breath,
appreciate how with each inhale,
your lungs propel your life further into the future.
With each exhale, your body releases what it doesn't need.
In a world that seeks our attention constantly,
recognize how wonderful it is.
that your lungs keep you alive without your thought.
So while you watch each breath,
thank your lungs for taking care of you.
