Hey there, good morning and welcome to wake me up.
This week, we're talking about showing us.
up. It's probably the most valuable thing we do in life. If we don't show up every day and live
life, then it's simply going to pass us by. You can tell a lot about someone simply based on what they
show up for. And when I say showing up, it isn't about the endless grind. It's not about crazy late
nights burning the midnight oil all the time. Showing up means doing the best you can,
with what you've got in you today.
That's it.
None of us can move a mountain in a single day.
But each day, we can move a stone.
And through that, move the mountain.
Some days, we only have the energy to move a smaller stone.
And that's okay because it's still progress.
On other days, we may have the strength and the energy to move a much larger stone.
and those are days to be appreciated too,
but the point is that only through consistent action
can we achieve our goals.
So today, I'm back for a meditation
designed to help you assess your mental and physical status
so that you can begin your day knowing how to best show up,
considering how you're feeling, your mood, your energy level, etc.
This is a really helpful self-awareness practice.
It's basically like a personal check-in,
and then you can make balanced, healthy decisions
about how to be productive today, given your state of being.
So if you're in bed, use this moment to roll over and make your way up.
And wherever you find yourself now,
go ahead and make your way to a comfortable position that you would like to meditate in.
As you probably have heard me say,
I recommend that you meditate sitting up,
and that's simply so you don't fall back asleep.
But I know we all have different preferences and spaces,
so do what works best for you.
And once you find that position,
allow yourself just to settle in.
You chose to take the time to be here and do this meditation.
So allow yourself the freedom to do that.
But everything you may have been doing before,
and anything you have to do afterwards to the side for now.
This time is for you.
Now take a deep breath in,
fill all the way up, hold at the top,
and then exhale, release, and slowly close your eyes.
For this first moment of meditation,
simply follow your own natural breath.
At whatever pace works for you,
Rather than paying attention to the pace, focus on taking full breaths all the way in, all the way out.
And as you do that for this first moment or so, you'll find that your body and your mind begin to settle.
All right, hopefully you're nice and settled in now.
So let's begin with a body scan.
just scanning your body slowly from head to toe,
taking a moment just to pause on each area,
noticing any physical sensations there,
any points of tension,
just generally noticing how you're feeling.
And once you've finished up with that body scan,
take a larger view of your entire body.
And simply notice,
as a whole, whether you're feeling tired or energized or somewhere in between.
And there's no need to assign a cause or a blame for any of this.
We're just taking note.
Now that we've scanned the body, let's do a quick scan of the mind.
How is your mind feeling?
Are your thoughts clear and bright?
Or maybe they're a bit hazy.
Are you still waking up or are you ready to go?
And again, it doesn't matter.
We're just here to take note.
We're developing our self-awareness.
Now that we've scanned the body and the mind,
let's do a final scan of our emotional state.
How are you feeling emotionally right now?
Are you happy?
Are you excited and looking forward to the day?
Are you stressed out about something?
Are you angry or frustrated?
Whatever it is, it doesn't matter.
And of course, there can be multiple emotions that you're feeling at once.
Just take a moment to become aware of whatever emotions you are feeling right now.
Now, finally, with all of this.
information you've just gathered about your current state of being.
How can you show up for yourself and your goals today in a productive, healthy, and
sustainable way?
How can you keep your inertia and your progress going?
Maybe you're full of energy and you want to take a shot at something grand.
Maybe you're feeling the opposite.
a bit down, a bit tired.
And if that's the case, that's perfectly fine.
We all have days like that.
But that doesn't mean we can't show up.
No matter what your current state of being is,
there is always a way for you to show up for yourself today.
So explore for one last minute what that might be for you today.
You can let all of that go
and just let your mind wander
wherever it wants to go
for about 30 seconds before we wrap up.
All right, it's time to finish up our meditation now.
So begin to bring yourself back.
Notice whatever is going on around you
and he sounds in the room
and the sensation of the air on your skin.
Notice whatever's supporting you,
whether it's a chair, the floor,
or something else.
Take one final deep breath in,
and as you exhale,
slowly open your eyes,
and just take a second to gather yourself
and come out of that.
Well, my friend, I hope you enjoyed that meditation.
Remember, showing up is all about inertia.
Objects in motion tend to stay in motion.
Once you get moving towards a goal,
once you start taking action,
Even if it's just small steps, you are more likely to continue going.
So keep showing up, even if it's just a little bit each day.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
And neither can you build the life you dream of in a day.
Thanks so much for tuning in.
That's all I've got for now.
But I'll be back here tomorrow with a series of affirmations on this same theme.
So I hope to see you there.
And until then, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
