Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm Tyler, your host as always. We're back today for a meditation on this week's theme of connection. If you're still in bed, then I'd recommend starting with yesterday's wake-up and stretch episode, which will get you up and out of bed, and then you can come up. Come back here to meditate if you'd like.
Starting point is 00:00:37 Connection and loneliness are a bit odd because they are largely emotional and subjective. We've all probably had a moment where we're surrounded by a ton of people, yet we still feel alone. Or the inverse, being with a single person, but feeling extremely connected, or even feeling that when you're by yourself.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Because it's an emotional thing, it has to do with our thoughts. thought patterns. And by addressing our thought patterns, we can actually help it pretty quickly. So that's what we'll do in our meditation today. We'll cultivate positive feelings of connection and we'll encourage new thoughts of seeking out more positive connection in your life. So hopefully you're in a nice comfortable seat and you want to feel supported, but you don't want to hold on to any tension. So try to relax. Take a big breath in. As you exhale, slowly close your eyes. Take this first moment just to get settled. Try to release any tension you're holding
Starting point is 00:02:14 onto. Soften your face. Let go of your jaw and drop your shoulders down. Follow the natural rhythm of your own breath, in and out. And as you do that for this first moment or so, thoughts are inevitably going to come up. That's okay. Just return to that breath. And as you keep doing that, you'll draw deeper and deeper within. Now that you're nice and settled in, Bring to mind someone in your present life That you know fairly well and you appreciate A friend, a family member, a co-worker Anybody
Starting point is 00:03:57 See their face See them smiling at you Remember some of the good times you've had with this person Relive those moments right now in your mind What qualities do you really value in this person what is it about them that makes them special to you? And if you had to guess, what do you think they appreciate about you? What value do you bring to their life?
Starting point is 00:05:12 Send out a silent thank you to this person for being a positive force in your life. All right, now let that go. Give your mind a moment to reset. All right, now bring to mind someone who's current. in your life that you only know a little bit, but you'd like to get to know them better. Again, it can be anybody, a family member, a coworker,
Starting point is 00:05:57 someone you go to the gym with, see their face, and see them smiling at you. Remember the interactions that you've had with them. Play them out in your mind. What is it about this person that makes you want to get to know them better? What positive forces can you bring to their life? Send out a silent thank you to this person,
Starting point is 00:07:14 for catching your interest, for bringing you the opportunity of a new relationship. And now just let all of that go and allow your mind to wander freely for a moment, whatever it wants to think about, wherever it wants to go. All right, friends, it's time to wrap up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back,
Starting point is 00:08:13 Notice whatever's supporting you, whether it's the chair or the floor. Notice any sounds going on around you. Notice the air on your skin. Take one final deep breath in and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and just collect yourself. All right, so I hope you enjoyed that meditation. If you've been with Wake Me Up for a while, you've probably learned that all you've probably learned that all you've All kinds of thought patterns can be trained. Loneliness and its opposite, connectedness, are no different.
Starting point is 00:09:14 A meditation like this will help with those thought patterns, but there is nothing that will be more effective than putting connectedness into action in your life. So I encourage you to touch base with the two people you brought to mind in this meditation. I'm sure it'll be the source of some positive. connection. Well, that's all for this meditation.
