Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm your host, Tyler, as always. We're back today for a meditation on this week's theme, creating a great day every single day. If you're still in bed, then I'd recommend starting with yesterday's wake-up and stretch episode. which will get you up and going, and then if you want to meditate, you can come back here. As I noted yesterday, creating a great day starts with controlling what we can,
Starting point is 00:00:44 prioritizing those things and people that leave us energized, happy, and fulfilled. But another part of great days is being able to roll with the punches. We're going to get distracted and pulled away from our priorities, and we have to be able to come back to them. And thankfully, nothing is more helpful for this than a classic meditation practice. So that's what we'll do today. Now let's jump right in and get started. So find a comfortable seat anywhere in your home will do.
Starting point is 00:01:23 I'd recommend not sitting in bed though because you don't want to fall back asleep. And once you've found that seat, take a second just to make sure you're comfortable. You want to feel supported, but you don't want to hold on to any tension. Take a deep breath in, filling all the way into your chest and your belly. And on your exhale, slowly close your eyes. For this first moment, just let everything soften down. Allow yourself to get into that meditative state. Relax your face, drop your jaw, and soften your shoulders.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Choose something to anchor your focus on. It can be something related to. to your breath, like the rise and fall of your chest, or the tip of your nose where the air passes by. It can be a mantra, like the universal mantra, Ome. It can be the sensation of your hands resting on your thighs. What you focus on is your choice. But trying to just pick one thing and stick with it through this whole meditation. And at some time, you'll notice that your mind has wandered away from this point of focus, and that's okay. Just bring yourself back to that anchor, to that thing you're focusing on, and rest your attention there. Over time, repeating
Starting point is 00:03:30 this process will train your brain to let distractions fade away so you can stay focused on the things that are most important to your day. All right, we're about halfway through. We've got a few more minutes to go. So keep resting your attention on whatever you chose to focus on. And if you get distracted, don't get frustrated. Each distraction is an opportunity to train your brain to be even better. All right, we've got about one more minute left in our meditation. So you can let go of that center of focus and allow your mind to wander freely for this last bit. Whatever it wants to think about and wherever it wants to go, our fair game. All right, friends, it's time to wrap up our meditation now.
Starting point is 00:08:47 So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's supporting you, whether it's the chair or the floor. Notice any sounds going on in the room. And maybe you want to give your fingers and toes a little wiggle just to bring some movement back to the body. Take one final deep breath in. And as you exhale,
Starting point is 00:09:23 Just open your eyes and collect yourself. Okay, so I hope your mind is feeling fresh, clear, and focused after that meditation. What we've just done shows one of the key benefits of a meditation practice. By training the brain to stay focused on something simple or programming ourselves to be better prioritizers. Because when something is interesting to us, when we do want to put focus into it, we'll be better at doing that. The result is we'll more efficiently use our time and energy for the things and people that make us happy and fulfilled. And in turn, that will help us create a great day every day.
Starting point is 00:10:17 It's really all about creating this process and this mindset. That's the key to a great day every day. So remember to focus at least some of your time on the things that will create a great day for you, whatever that might be. and if you do, I'm sure it'll pay off. Well, that's all for today. I'll talk to you tomorrow for our motivation.
Starting point is 00:10:43 And until then, go out and have a fantastic day. I really hope you enjoyed this episode. A good morning is such a gift, isn't it? It's the key to a happier and more productive day and ultimately a better life. And that's why I make this show. So if you're enjoying it, why not send one of your favorite episodes to a friend?
Starting point is 00:11:17 You never know. You might just make their day and change their life.
