Hey there, welcome to Wake Me Up. Thanks for tuning in today.
This week's episodes are all focused on reflecting on the past year.
As the year comes to a close, it's a natural time to look back on the ups and downs we've experienced.
Some of these may have been joyful and fulfilling,
while others may have been difficult and challenging.
I'm willing to bet there was a little bit of both.
This meditation will help you reflect on the year just past,
so that no matter what's happened,
you can appreciate how much you've grown
and look toward the future with a positive mindset.
So, I know your time is precious.
Let's go ahead and jump right in.
So find a comfortable position that you want to meditate in.
As you probably know by now,
I recommend that you meditate sitting up,
but you should meditate in whatever position works best for you.
Once you've found that comfortable position,
whatever position works best for you,
take a deep breath in,
fill all the way up,
and as you exhale,
you can slowly close you.
your eyes. In the first minute or so of meditation, the mind tends to be the most active.
That's because we've just started bringing it into this meditative state. It needs a little time
to wind down and slow down. And one really helpful tool to slow your mind is to slow and relax
your body. So just take this first moment to allow yourself to relax
and settle in to your position.
And a few things I find really helpful with that
are softening the face,
relaxing your jaw and dropping your shoulders down.
And for the remainder of this first minute or so,
just follow that natural rise and fall of your breath.
At whatever pace feels right to you.
And as you do,
you'll slowly draw deep.
deeper and deeper within.
Now that you're settled in,
let's begin our reflection on this past year.
And for this reflection,
I'm just going to pose a series of questions,
and you can just let your mind run with them.
There's nothing specific that you need to do.
Just allow your thoughts to come in response to the questions I pose.
and you can start just by bringing to mind
where you were at this time last year.
What did your life look like?
What were you spending your time on?
And who were you spending your time with?
What were your problems?
What were the sources of your excitement?
And what were your hopes and your dreams and goals
for the future?
Looking back on this year,
what do you feel went well?
What can you look back on and be proud of?
What unexpected things happened this year?
What positive things can you say about how you handled those unexpected happenings?
And what might you try to improve on when unexpected things happen again?
In other words, what did you learn from these unexpected happen?
What can you appreciate about the year just past?
Let's look forward a little bit too.
What are you looking forward to about the next year?
Do you want to become in the next year?
And what do you want to spend more time on in this upcoming year?
All right, you can let all of those questions go.
It's about time to wrap up.
wrap up. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's supporting you, whether it's a chair
or the floor or something else. Notice any sounds going on around you. Take a deep breath in,
the deepest one yet. And as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and just take a second to gather
yourself. All right, so I hope you enjoyed that reflective meditation. Looking back on life can
sometimes be hard, but it's a really important thing for us to do. Because if we don't learn from
our past, we can't improve our future. I've said it before, but there are no mistakes in life.
Just happy accidents. Everything. Even the painful moments in life are learning opportunities.
So no matter how you feel about this past year,
know that you have grown, you have learned,
and you've gotten closer and closer
to being that person who you want to be.
It's all part of the path of life.
But that's all for now.
I'll be back tomorrow with a special little episode
that I know you're going to enjoy.
I hope to see you there.
And until then, go out.
and have an absolutely fantastic day.
