Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors.
Hey friend, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm so glad you're here to join me for this episode.
In keeping with our theme for this week, this is a loving kindness meditation that will help you attach positive emotions to getting out of your comfort zone.
If we can learn to seek that expansion and growth, that healthy level of discomfort that comes when we challenge ourselves, then we will train our brains to seek it out more often.
Now, if you're in bed, then use this moment to roll over and make your way up.
find your way to a comfortable position that you'd like to meditate in.
I recommend that you meditate sitting up,
but I know we all have different preferences and different spaces.
So do what's right for you.
Once you've found that comfortable position,
just allow yourself to settle for a moment.
Mentally put aside anything else that you have to do after this.
It will be there when you're done.
Now take a deep breath in,
fill all the way up,
And as you exhale, slowly close your eyes.
When we meditate, the mind tends to be the most active right at the beginning,
because it's still relaxing into a meditative state.
One thing that can really help with that is relaxing the body.
So relax the muscles of your face, drop your jaw, and soften your shoulders down.
Simply follow the natural rise and fall of your own breath for the next moment or so.
And as you do, you'll find that you draw deeper and deeper within.
All right.
Hopefully you're nice and settled in now.
So begin to visualize yourself, standing at the edge of your comfort zone,
ready to take the first step outside of it,
to do something that makes you feel a little uncomfortable.
Maybe that's something like public speaking,
trying a brand new activity, or meeting new people.
Anything that you might normally shy away from, see yourself there now.
About to engage in that activity.
Notice if any emotions come up.
Or a desire to pull away.
If they do, that's okay.
It's natural.
Don't run away from that feeling.
Instead, repeat the following phrases to yourself.
Either out loud or in your mind.
May I have the courage to step outside of my comfort zone.
May I trust in my abilities.
May I believe in myself.
May I embrace the unknown with an open heart and mind.
May I learn and grow from the challenges and opportunities that come my way.
Now extend that visualization and see yourself taking that first step outside of your comfort zone.
making your first move into this activity or thing
that makes you a little bit uncomfortable.
See yourself doing it
with a feeling of empowerment and support
that comes from your own inner strength
and the love of those around you.
See yourself doing this thing successfully.
Whatever that means to you.
and notice what it might feel like.
If by stepping out of your comfort zone,
you uncovered a new skill,
a new talent,
a new hobby,
something new and positive in your life.
Now repeat again these words.
May I have the courage to step outside of my comfort zone.
May I trust in my abilities.
May I believe,
in myself. May I embrace the unknown with an open heart and mind. May I learn and grow from the
challenges and opportunities that come my way. All right, it's almost time for us to wrap up.
So you can let your mind wander anywhere it wants to go for these last 30 seconds or so.
All right, it's time to wrap up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's
supporting you, whether it's a chair or the floor or something else.
Notice the air on your skin and any sounds going on around you.
Take one final deep breath in.
And as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and just take a second to gather yourself.
All right, my friend, so I hope you enjoyed that meditation.
This is a really great technique to use when you're a little nervous about something that's
getting you out of your comfort zone, closing your eyes and remembering that it's okay to feel
challenged. It's okay to feel a little nervous or uncomfortable. Believe in yourself and your
abilities. And just give it a shot. And look, it's okay to try something new and not like it.
The point is to expand yourself, your mind and your body, your worldview. And no matter whether
you view it as a success or a failure afterwards, you have accomplished something valuable
when you get out of your comfort zone, your own growth and expansion. And that is always
worthwhile. The rest of this week will have a slightly different schedule than usual.
Tomorrow will be this week's motivational episode. On Thursday, I'll be doing affirmations
exclusive to wake me up premium. And on Friday, we'll have a mindful minute that will go over
some practical ideas you can put into place to start getting out of your comfort zone more often.
So I hope to see you at all of them. Until tomorrow, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
