Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm your host, Tyler, as always, and I'm so thrilled that you're here today
because we're doing a really beautiful meditation on this week's theme of simplicity.
In this meditation, you'll zoom way out on your life,
and you'll hone in on what's most important to you.
By figuring out what those things are,
you'll be able to reduce the non-essential things going on in your life.
And with that focus on simplicity
and what's really, really valuable to you,
you'll find way more fulfillment, happiness, and success in life.
So let's not waste another minute.
Let's go ahead and jump right in.
So feel free to find a comfortable position.
I recommend that you do meditations sitting.
But I know we all have our own preferences and our own spatial limitations.
So do whatever works best for you, whether that's sitting, laying down, or even walking.
And once you've found that comfortable position, just allow yourself to settle in.
Try not to hold onto any tension.
Take a deep breath in.
and as you exhale, slowly close your eyes.
Take a second to let your body soften down.
Your mind will follow your body.
So relax your face, let your jaw soften down,
and release your shoulders.
And just follow the natural rise and fall of your own breath
for this first moment or so.
And as you do, your breath will draw you deeper and deeper within.
Now that you're settled in, let's really dive into our meditation.
And we're going to do this in a couple of parts.
Each one will be basically the same thing, but focused on a different aspect of life.
So for now, just start by zooming way out on your life.
looking at it as though it's a timeline
and you can ride along that timeline
and look at any point in your life that you'd like to
and for right now, ride that timeline towards the end of your life
far enough down the road
where you'll be looking back
and thinking about how you spent your time in this life
you'll be able to see all of those memories you've made
all the way from childhood
through middle age and old age.
As you sit here in this position of hindsight,
looking back on your life,
what are the things that you'd like to be remembered for as a person?
What personality traits do you want people to remember you for?
And just pick a couple, maximum of three,
and make sure that those traits resonate with you.
that you feel like that's really authentically who you are,
even if you fumble with them from time to time.
And now that you have those couple of personality traits that are really important to you,
take a second and look through that timeline of your life
to see where those traits are really developed, where they shine.
How can you ensure that even in the littlest of moments that you're living,
these traits. Great. Now, you can let go of those traits. And in this next part, we're going to
focus on relationships. So same thing. As you sit here, looking back on your life as a timeline,
what relationships are most important for you to have? Again, just focus on a few. Notice,
What moments in the timeline of your life, those relationships are really important.
They really shine through and they help make you who you are.
And aside from those big moments, how can you make sure in every little moment that you're
focusing who you are and what you're doing with your life on building and nurturing these
important relationships. Now you can let that part go. And again, we're going to do the same
thing, but this time focused on the work of your life, your career, the changes you want to make
to the world around you. And it doesn't have to be financially incentivized work. This could be
volunteer work or a hobby. What are the few things that you really want to work on in life?
What brings you value and happiness?
And can do a little of those for the world, too.
And notice where in the timeline of your life,
these aspects of work really shine.
When in your life do they really stand out?
And they may not all be at the same time.
And even aside from those big moments,
how can you ensure that your focus
focusing on these important work aspects.
Every day.
Great.
Now you can let go of all of that.
Just let your mind wander wherever it wants to
for this last minute or so before we wrap up.
All right, it's about time to finish up.
So begin to bring yourself back.
Notice whatever's supporting you,
whether that's a chair or the floor or a couch.
Notice any sounds going on around you.
and the air on your skin.
Take one last big breath in.
And as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and just gather yourself.
All right.
So I hope you enjoyed that meditation and that it's helped you get a new perspective on what's
really important in life.
Simplifying the things that we're chasing in life is really important.
You can do anything, but you can't do it.
everything. Simplicity is what will allow you to get those things that are most important to you.
And so I hope this meditation really helped you do that. Now that's it for today's meditation.
We'll be back tomorrow for a motivation on this same theme. So I hope to see you there.
Until then, go out, chase simplicity, and have an absolutely fantastic day.
