Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, after today's episode finishes up, be sure to check out my Spotify playlist linked in the show notes. It's full of good music that will help keep the positive energy going throughout your morning. You can listen for free. I'm sure you're going to love it. You're going to dance a little bit and it's going to put you in a great mood. Again, just follow the link in the show notes to my Spotify playlist. Good morning and welcome back to wake me up. I'm your host Tyler, as always.
Starting point is 00:00:30 and I'm so thrilled that you chose to join me here today. This week, we've been talking about comparison. It can be a real dream killer and a creator of insecurity. The key to letting go of comparison is realizing that we're all on our own path and on our own timeline. Now, humans do learn by observation, so looking to others for ideas and inspiration can be great. But the only person you're really,
Starting point is 00:01:00 in competition with is yourself, and more specifically, who you were yesterday. If you can be better than you were the day before, then my friend, you are winning. And one of the best ways to let go of comparison is to build your own self-confidence and self-worth. And that's what we'll do today in this gratitude meditation. I'm sure that at the end of this 10-minute meditation, you're going to feel great about being who you are. So, if you're still in bed, use this moment to roll over and make your way up and out of bed. And wherever you are right now, go ahead and find a comfortable position that you would like to meditate in. As you probably have heard me say, I recommend that you meditate sitting up.
Starting point is 00:01:52 But that's simply so you don't fall asleep. I know we all have different spaces and settings and, of course, different preferences. So do what works best for you. And once you've found that comfortable position, just allow your body to settle into it for a moment. Mentally put aside anything you were doing before this and anything you have to do afterwards. You've chosen to take this time for yourself.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Everything else will be there when you're done. So use this time just for you. Now let's take a deep breath in, fill all the way up, hold at the top, and then exhale. release and slowly close your eyes. The first moment of meditation is really all about settling in, allowing the body and the mind to soften into a meditative state.
Starting point is 00:03:10 And the more you meditate, the more you'll come to recognize that the state of the mind follows the state of the body. So if you want to relax your mind, you can start by relaxing your body. and a few things that can help with that are softening the muscles of the face, dropping your jaw, relaxing your shoulders down.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Simply follow the rise and fall of your own breath. At whatever pace feels comfortable and natural to you. And as you do, you'll find that you draw deeper and deeper within. All right. Hopefully you're nice and settled in now. So let's dive into our gratitude practice. And begin
Starting point is 00:04:57 by thinking of a quality or a characteristic you love about yourself. Something you're proud is a part of you. It can be a personality trait, a skill you've honed.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Anything will do. And if there are any memories attached to this, you can let them come up. Positive emotions with them arise as well. This quality, this character, is unique to you. Others may have a similar one,
Starting point is 00:06:02 but this one is yours. Nobody else can do this in exactly the way you can. And that's something to be proud of. So repeat to yourself, I am proud to be me. May I allow my unique qualities to shine. Now you can let that go. Take a breath just to reset.
Starting point is 00:07:08 and now envision a time when others came together to celebrate you. Maybe you had a big accomplishment, or even just a birthday. Any time when others came together for you will do. It doesn't matter how many people were there, or how big or small of a celebration it was. What matters is that it made you feel appreciated. Let those memories. Come up and notice that good feeling of others being there to celebrate you.
Starting point is 00:08:12 This memory just goes to show that you are unique and valued in this world. So repeat to yourself, other people are proud of me. And other people want my unique qualities to shine. All right. Great. Now you can let all of that go and just let your mind wander wherever it wants to for these last 30 seconds or so
Starting point is 00:09:40 before we wrap up. All right, it's time to wrap up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever is going on around you. Any sounds, any movement, the touch of the air on your skin. Notice whatever's supporting you, whether that's a chair,
Starting point is 00:10:41 the floor, or something else. Take a deep breath in, the deepest breath you've taken today. And as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and just take a second to collect yourself. Well, my friend, I hope you enjoyed that meditation and that it's left you feeling good to be who you are.
Starting point is 00:11:26 We often think of life in snapshots, but that drastically distills reality. Life is a movie, not a picture, and everyone's movie is different. They move at different speeds, and they have completely different plot lines. So, instead of worrying about whether your movie is the best, why not just sit back and enjoy it? Otherwise, you're going to miss all the good parts. So go out today and live your life in your own unique way,
Starting point is 00:12:02 and be proud of it. I'll be back tomorrow with affirmations on this same theme. So I hope to see you there. Until then, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
