Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors. Hello and welcome back to Wake Me Up. We're here today for a meditation on this week's The seeing and accepting the truth about ourselves. Yesterday, we talked about why it's so hard,
Starting point is 00:00:38 but also so important to accept the truth about who we are. In this meditation, we're going to put it into practice. We'll look at ourselves with a lens of compassion by stepping into the shoes of who we were as a child. It will help us improve our ability to see ourselves clearly and to accept ourselves without judgment or shame. The more willing you are to let hard truths about yourself be seen, the faster you can change them,
Starting point is 00:01:11 and the quicker you'll become a more evolved version of yourself. So let's go ahead and get started. You can begin by finding a comfortable position that you'd like to meditate in. I recommend that you meditate sitting up, but we've all got different preferences and different species. spaces, so do whatever works best for you. And once you've found that position, allow yourself to relax. But everything else mentally to the side for now, choose to be here and engage fully in this meditative experience. Now take a deep breath in, fill all the way into your belly,
Starting point is 00:02:01 and as you exhale, slowly close your eyes. For this first moment, just allow your body and your mind to settle. It can take a minute or so for that to happen. A few things that can help are relaxing the muscles of your face, dropping your jaw and softening your shoulders down and just follow the natural rise and fall of your own breath for this first moment or so. All right, now that you're hopefully nice and settled in. Envision two people in your mind.
Starting point is 00:03:37 two versions of the same person, and that person is you. Start by envisioning yourself as a child, and next to that child version of you, see also your current self, two versions of the exact same person. What do these two versions of you see when they look at each other? What truths can they see in the other that they can't see in themselves as easily. Sit here for a moment as the child version of you learns more about the current version of you. As these things come forward, honesty and clarity about yourself will increase. And as you allow that to happen, do so with compassion. You know both of these people very well.
Starting point is 00:05:32 You know why they are the way they are. So choose now to accept each version fully. Now that you've put on your compassionate lens, what is the one hard but very honest truth about your current self that the child version of you recognizes clearly? A truth that it might be surprised to know about its own future self. and it may be difficult to be in the presence of this hard truth. But don't turn away.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Just allow it to be witnessed. As this truth has presented itself in front of you, continue to observe it with the understanding that it isn't a part of your identity. It may be true, but it's not permanent, no matter how hard it may be to admit this truth. Try not to label it. or yourself as bad. Let it be without judgment.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Approach it as the child version of you would, with curiosity and understanding. With this truth out in the open now, the child version of you gives the current version of you a hug. They accept you regardless of this truth or any other hard truth about you. They accept you. You accept you unconditionally.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Feel that compassion from yourself. Let it wash away any shame, guilt, or blame. Both of these versions of you, the child, and the current one, are allowed to be flawed and make mistakes. And each always accepts the other. unconditionally with compassion and understanding. You can let go of that visual now and just come back to your breath for the last 30 seconds or so before we wrap up.
Starting point is 00:09:58 All right, it's time to finish up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's supporting you, whether it's a chair or the floor or something else. Notice any sounds going on around. you. Take one final deep breath in, and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and just take a second to gather yourself. All right, so I hope you enjoyed that meditation. I encourage you to keep this lens of honesty and compassion going. Your self-awareness becomes so much higher when you're
Starting point is 00:11:04 willing to recognize that you are uncomfortable with what you see in yourself. It is that discomfort that will encourage positive change. The key is that you have to accept it. You can't run away from it. So respond to that discomfort with kindness, and the entire process of transformation will happen more easily and more quickly. But it's time to wrap up this episode. Thanks so much for tuning in.
Starting point is 00:11:36 I'll be back tomorrow with some affirmations to help seed these ideas deeper in your mind. And until then, go out and have a fantastic day.
