Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors. Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm your host, Tyler, as always, and I'm so thrilled that you're here. here today. This week, we'll be talking about discipline. It's a skill that's absolutely necessary to succeed at anything in life. It's about showing up and doing the work. But so often,
Starting point is 00:00:46 discipline gets a bad reputation. It's seen as punishment for a wrong. But it doesn't have to be that way. Discipline can be loving. It can be supportive. In fact, as we'll see throughout this, week, discipline is at its core about learning, learning about ourselves. And I wanted to start this topic with a meditation. Through this meditation, you'll begin to see how supportive and loving discipline is the key to having long-term motivation and creating a positive relationship both with yourself and your goals in life. So let's go ahead and get started. If you're in bed, use this moment to roll over, make your way up and out of bed,
Starting point is 00:01:39 and wherever you are, find your way to a comfortable position. Any position that you'd like to meditate in works. As you probably know, I recommend that you meditate sitting up, and that's simply so you don't fall back asleep. Just allow your body to settle into this position, and the space around you. Intentionally put aside anything you were doing before this
Starting point is 00:02:20 and anything you have to do afterwards. You chose to be here now. So do that 100%. Now take a deep breath in, fill all the way up, hold at the top, and then exhale, release, and slowly close your eyes.
Starting point is 00:03:03 For this first moment, just allow yourself to continue settling into a meditative state. Soften the muscles of your face. Relax your jaw and drop your shoulders down. Simply follow the natural rise and fall of your own breath. And as you do, you'll find that you slowly draw deeper and deeper within. All right.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Hopefully you're nice and settled now. To begin this meditation, you can start just by reflecting. on your relationship with the word discipline. Take note of what feelings or memories this word brings up. Does discipline feel like freedom or force? Rather than engaging with whatever arises. Simply observe it. Now that any memories, any feelings around the word discipline, are present,
Starting point is 00:05:45 Sit with them as if you're sitting with a friend. How can you make this relationship more supportive and more loving? Just as a good friend would do, be completely open to whatever these feelings and memories might reveal. Now envision what it might look like to have supportive and loving discipline each day of your life. discipline that doesn't want to hurt you, doesn't want to punish you, wants the best for you, supports you in reaching your goals, and understands that you're a human, you'll make mistakes, and you have learning and growing to do. What might that type of discipline look like?
Starting point is 00:07:27 and now that you have an idea what loving supportive discipline might be in your life, how would that kind of discipline feel? What would it feel like to completely accept yourself for where you're at right now? While also honoring yourself enough
Starting point is 00:08:24 to work wisely, intentionally, efficiently, and steadily. Envision that kind of discipline now. And let yourself feel the positive emotions that would come with this kind of approach. You can let all of that go. Just let your mind wander wherever it wants to go
Starting point is 00:09:17 for this last 30 seconds or so before we wrap up. All right, it's time to finish up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's going on around you any sounds in the room. Notice whatever's supporting you and the feeling of the air on your skin. Take a deep breath in,
Starting point is 00:10:20 the deepest breath you've taken yet today. Hold at the top and then exhale, release, and slowly open your eyes and collect yourself. All right, my friend, as you come out of this meditation, imagine that this new relationship with discipline
Starting point is 00:10:52 easily transfers into every single day that you wake up. We'll talk about this idea of loving, supportive discipline in more depth tomorrow. When we practice loving discipline, we harness a balance of softness and strength. We expect great things out of ourselves, but we also expect mistakes. We fully accept ourselves for where we are currently,
Starting point is 00:11:21 knowing that the journey to where we want to be is not based on punishment or shame, it's based on love and a desire to do what we love. But that's all for today. Thanks so much for choosing to be here and joining me this morning. I'll be back tomorrow for this week's motivation, and we're going to dive deeper into these inspiring ideas of loving discipline. So I can't wait to see you there.
Starting point is 00:11:48 Until then, go out and have an answer. absolutely fantastic day.
