Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors. Hey there and welcome to Wake Me Up, and I'm so glad that you chose to be here today. This week, we're talking about the idea of being your true self, letting go of the tension that's created when we're trying to be something we're not
Starting point is 00:00:40 and relaxing into who you truly are. And today's meditation will help you connect with that innate understanding you have for yourself, for your own needs and your own desires. You'll connect with the true you, the relaxed you, the one that's comfortable to be who you are. And through that, hopefully you'll find it easier to be the true you day in and day out. Now, if you're in bed, use this moment to roll over, make your way up and out of bed,
Starting point is 00:01:17 and find your way to a comfortable position that you'd like to meditate in. I recommend that you meditate sitting up, but that's simply so you don't fall back asleep. You can meditate in whatever way works best for you and the space you're in. And once you've found that position, just allow yourself to settle for a moment. Let go of any physical tension that you're holding on to. Allow yourself to relax. And mentally, put aside anything you have to do after this meditation is over. You chose to be here.
Starting point is 00:02:13 So be here fully. Everything that you have to do later will be there when you're done. Now let's take one deep breath in. Fill all the way up. Hold at the top. And then exhale, release, and slowly close your eyes. In the first moment or so of meditation is when the mind tends to be the most active. And that makes sense.
Starting point is 00:02:55 It takes time for the mind to settle into a meditative state. Here are a few physical things that you can easily do to help your mind settle. Soften the muscles of your face. Drop your jaw and release your tongue from the roof of your mouth. Take a deep inhale and on your exhale, relax your shoulders. Just let them fall down. The mind will follow the state of the body. So by relaxing your body in ways like this,
Starting point is 00:03:57 you're that much closer to entering a calm, relaxed, and meditative state. Use the next 30 seconds or minute to settle in a little bit deeper just by following the natural rise and fall of your own breath. Hopefully you're nice and settled in now. So bring to mind a time, a memory, when you felt like you could be completely yourself. Maybe it's when you're doing a certain activity or when you're with a certain person or group of people.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Bring that memory to the front of your mind. Visualize it. See yourself there. What does your mood look like? What is your body language saying about you and how you feel? Remember that feeling of being able to be who you truly are, to be vulnerable,
Starting point is 00:06:20 to speak your thoughts, and to be accepted, free of judgment. And as you review this memory, this visualization, notice whether you were trying hard to be your true self, or if it's something that came naturally,
Starting point is 00:06:59 without real thought or effort. What is it about this particular experience, this memory, this person or these people that made you feel that way, what allowed or encouraged you to be comfortable being your true self as you hold this image in your mind of you being comfortable and relaxed
Starting point is 00:08:14 being who you truly are. Repeat these words to yourself. May I be proud of my authentic self. May I be happy to be who I am. Once more. May I be proud of my authentic self. May I be happy to be who I am. Wonderful.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Now you can let that image go. and simply let your mind wander wherever it would like to. For this last moment, before we wrap up. All right, it's time to wrap up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's supporting you, whether it's a chair, the floor, or something else. Notice the air on your skin.
Starting point is 00:10:28 And notice any sounds going on around you. Take one final deep breath in. The deepest one you've taken yet, and hold it at the top for just a second, and then release. And slowly open your eyes and just take a second to gather yourself. All right, my friend, so I hope you enjoyed that meditation and that it's reminded you that you should feel comfortable and relaxed to be who you naturally are. When we can attach these positive feelings of comfort and ease with the act of being our authentic selves, then we'll find it's more easy to live that way.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Allowing yourself to live with less tension and more relaxation is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. This way of living sends a message to your own heart, that you deserve to be who you are, and that you are accepted and valuable exactly as you are. Let this be your intention for your day, for your week, and maybe even your whole life, to be who you are, and to be comfortable and at ease with being who you are. I would love to see you and everyone else in this world living that way.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I think we'd all be a lot happier, and this world would be in a really wonderful place. But that's all I've got for you today. I'll be back tomorrow with some positive affirmations on this exact same theme, and I can't wait to see you there. Until then, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
