Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made. I'm your host, Tyler, as always. We're back today for a meditation on this week's theme of savoring. As we discussed yesterday, savoring is a mindfulness approach. that encourages you to do the same thing with life that you do with your favorite meal. Savor it.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Enjoy every bite and really make the most of it. If this approach is applied to all of life, then the great stuff will naturally be more highlighted, and the tough stuff will be softened up a bit. And today, we'll use visualization to draw on some past memories to help you put savoring into practice. So go ahead and find a comfortable seat anywhere in your home, just not in your bed. And let's get started.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Once you've found that seat, allow yourself to relax down into it. Make sure you're sitting upright and supported, but don't hold on to any tension. Take a big breath in, and on your exhale, just slowly close your eyes. Take this first moment just to get settled and allow yourself to draw into a moment. meditative state. Let your face relax, drop your jaw, and release your shoulders. Take some deep breaths just at your own natural pace. There's no need to force anything and just follow that breath for a moment or so. As you do, you'll draw deeper and deeper within. Now that you're settled in, Bring to mind your favorite food.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Imagine that food now and everything about it, what it looks like, what it smells like, what it tastes like. Maybe there's a feeling of satisfaction when you eat it. Really enjoy the memory of this food, as if you are eating it right now. And consider just how special it is that this food exists. that the world can create something that delights you so. Isn't that so special? Send out a silent thank you to this food
Starting point is 00:04:47 for its nourishment, its enjoyment, and the pleasure it brings to your life. All right, now before you get too hungry thinking about food, let that image go. Give your mind a second to reset. And now bring to mind a positive memory from the recent past. anything will do and it doesn't have to be major
Starting point is 00:05:35 it could just be a nice day a fun time you had with friends a trip anything just bring that to mind and relive the positive memory of that for a moment find the best things about the memory and really dig into them
Starting point is 00:06:04 relive them re-enjoy them And consider how special this memory is, that you even got to enjoy this moment at all, much less remember it in such a wonderful light. Send out a silent thank you for this memory. Now you can let that image go. Just give your mind a second to reset
Starting point is 00:07:00 before we do our last visualization. Now finally, bring to mind a more negative memory from the recent past. it doesn't need to be some wildly horrific thing, maybe a tough day at work, or being stuck in traffic, bring to mind that memory. And although it may be difficult at first, find something to savor in this memory.
Starting point is 00:07:44 It may not be immediately obvious, and sometimes it may be a bit of a stretch to find something positive in a negative experience. But there is always something. So look for it. Now, consider how wonderful it is that you've found something positive and what was a largely negative moment in your life. Isn't that so special?
Starting point is 00:08:35 There is always a diamond in the rough. You've just got to look for it. So send out a silent thank you for this bit of positivity that found its way into a negative moment. Now you can let that image go. And just allow your mind to run freely for a moment before we wrap up. It's about time to finish up our meditation. So begin to bring yourself back to the room.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Notice anything going on around you. Any sounds? Maybe the touch of the air on your skin. Maybe you want to give your fingers and toes a little wiggle. Just to bring some movement back to the body. Take one more inhale, filling all. all the way up and on your exhale, slowly open your eyes and take a second to gather yourself. So I hope you enjoyed that meditation and that it revealed some of the ways which savoring can
Starting point is 00:10:53 both heighten positive things and diminish negative things. There's always something to savor in every experience and that may sound unbelievable at first, but it is true. Be sure to tune in tomorrow because I'll be going over exactly that. For today, try to put savoring into practice once or twice. Just do exactly what we did in this meditation, but with things as they're going on in your life. And maybe even try to savor a moment that's a bit more difficult and just see what happens. You might be surprised.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Well, that's all for this episode. I'll talk to you tomorrow. And until then, go out and have a fantastic day.
