Good morning, and thanks for tuning in to Wake Me Up.
The podcast, where morning people are made.
I'm Tyler. Autumn has arrived where I live.
The leaves are changing colors and falling to the ground.
It's a season of preparation, both for the upcoming winter, but also for the spring that comes afterwards.
It's time to let go of the weight we've been carrying that we don't need anymore.
That's what the trees are doing after all. They're shedding leaves,
cutting the excess that they don't need
so that when spring arrives again,
they can grow bigger and better than last year.
Whether you're listening to this episode during autumn or not,
it's always good to shed the extra stuff we're carrying and dealing with.
The stuff we don't need or want anymore.
And that's what we'll do in today's meditation.
So let's get right to it.
whether you're joining from bed or you're up and about already.
Let's all take a big breath in, hold it for a moment, and exhale.
Just let it all go.
If you are still in bed, take this opportunity to roll over and make your way to standing up.
It might feel like you have so much to do, so much on your mind, and you just want to avoid it all.
But don't worry, we'll be clearing out and cleaning up.
up all of that in just a moment. Right, now that we're all out of bed, let's get the blood flowing
and make sure the body is awake before we sit back down to meditate. And we'll start with the
neck today. Be very gentle here. Stand up straight and let your head fall over your right
shoulder. Relax. Come back to center now. And let your head fall over your left shoulder this time.
Again, nice and easy.
We're just trying to loosen things up.
Now bring your head back to center.
Take an inhale and reach your arms to the sky.
Try to touch the ceiling.
And then on your exhale, fold forward at your waist.
Hang out for just a second.
Allow your legs and your lower back to release.
Now slowly roll up to standing.
And when you get there, roll your shoulders up.
So hopefully now your body is feeling nice and relaxed, but a bit more awake.
Now, find a seat, and we can begin our meditation.
You can sit anywhere in your home, just not in your bed.
And as always, feel free to grab a sip of water or use the bathroom along the way.
Today, we'll use visualization to help us let go of things we no longer need to bear.
I know I have some of these in my life.
certain commitments or relationships that seem to only add burden to my life without bringing any benefit.
We've all got them.
But why spend our energy holding on to something that doesn't serve us anymore?
Not that everything in life needs to be to our service, but devoting energy to one thing means taking it from another.
So in order to be who we want, to grow and accomplish all we want.
We have to learn to preserve our efforts for what matters to us.
By now, hopefully you found a nice comfortable seat, sitting upright, but relaxed, not holding
on to any tension.
Take a deep breath in, and on your exhale, just close your eyes.
Allow yourself to settle in for this first moment.
Let everything relax, your face, your jaw,
your shoulders.
You can breathe at your own pace.
Just trying to make sure that breath is really smooth.
And as you follow that breath,
you'll slowly draw deeper and deeper.
All right.
Now that you're settled in,
imagine yourself as a tree,
a beautiful, strong tree.
Your seat, your base, is the roots.
Your chest and back.
are the supportive trunk.
Your shoulders, arms, neck, and head are the branches.
For many months, you've been in bloom, growing in new ways, making new connections,
reaching farther and higher.
You have been green with life, and as it occurs in all phases of growth, you picked up many new things.
Some you'll never want to let go of
And others you've already outgrown
And now you're coming to the end of this phase
Autumn has arrived
The world around you is beginning to wrap itself up
In preparation for the winter
And it's time for you to shed your leaves also
Time to let go of the dead weight
That you're carrying around constantly
time to let go of those things you've outgrown,
the relationships, the commitments, the hobbies, the lifestyle choices,
because you know that soon spring will be here,
and you'll once again be in a phase of growth.
In order to grow again, you must free yourself from the things that no longer serve you,
the things that are holding you back,
and so you look down at your branches.
And notice one of the brown drawing leaves.
And on that leaf, you see the image of one of the things you've outgrown.
You thank it for all it's given you.
But you know that your future is brighter without it.
So you release it to the wind.
Shetting this leaf and letting it fall to the ground.
You gaze down at another one of your leaves.
brown and decaying.
And on that leaf, you see the image of another thing that you've outgrown.
Once again, you thank it for everything it's provided.
The memories, the experiences, the feelings.
But you know that in order to keep growing, you have to let go of this thing.
And so, you release it to the wind, shedding this leaf,
and letting it fall to the ground.
And now one last time,
you look down and notice another leaf,
one that you're ready to let go of.
You take a moment to thank it for everything it's done.
And when the wind blows again, you let it go.
Shetting this leaf,
letting it fall to the ground.
Having let these things go,
you are now free to grow as you've always designed,
desired. And though you will always cherish the memory of them, you know you're better off now.
You're reminded that everything in life is temporary. Most things come for just a season of life,
or they show up for a specific reason, to show us and teach us something. Once that season has
past or that reason has been fulfilled, it's important we be able to let them go.
It makes them no less valuable and no less memorable.
It simply makes them, like all things, temporary.
And if we spend all of our time stuck in the seasons of the past, we are certain to miss
the next season that comes.
All right, come back to your breath and enjoy.
another moment of quiet before we wrap up.
Begin to bring yourself back to the room,
back to your surroundings and your body.
Notice the chair beneath you,
and maybe notice the sounds going on in the room.
Take a big breath in,
and as you exhale,
slowly open your eyes.
Friends, you can do anything you want in life.
You truly can.
But the catch is that you can't do
everything. You have to pick and choose. You have to preserve your energy for what's most important
to you. Now that you're free from carrying all of the excess stuff that you didn't really want,
you'll have so much more energy, so much more time, so much more focus, to devote to what you
truly care about. And I sure hope that you do that. I can't wait to see all that you.
you become. That's all for today, friends. Thank you so much for tuning in. I'll talk to you all soon,
