Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors. Hey friend, and welcome back to Wake Me Up. As always, I'm Tyler, and I'm so glad that you're here. today. This week, we're talking about a really important topic, and it's the idea that life is a constant practice. What if we didn't approach life as though there's some end result that we have to attain, but rather as an art form? Like any great artist, life isn't defined by a single piece of work. It's a catalog of great works, thousands of small,
Starting point is 00:01:02 smaller, lesser-known works, and some private works that maybe are never even seen by the public. By looking at life in this way, we can begin to approach it not with a goal orientation, as though there's something to be attained, but with a skill set orientation, which means developing the skills to live a happy, meaningful, and fulfilling life. Life is full of ups and downs, and no matter where you find yourself right now, whether it seems to be a good moment or not, there is always something to practice. In good times, we practice gratitude and humility.
Starting point is 00:01:47 In low times, we practice patience, resilience, and calmness. And that's what we're going to work on in this meditation today, keeping ourselves steady throughout changing times in life. And we'll draw on some past, memories to help do that. So let's go ahead and turn to our meditation. If you're still in bed, then use this moment to roll over and make your way out of bed. And find a comfortable position that you like to meditate in.
Starting point is 00:02:24 I recommend that you meditate sitting up, but that's simply because I don't want you to fall back asleep. We all have different preferences and different spaces. so do whatever works best for you. And once you've found that comfortable position, just allow yourself to settle in. Make sure your body is supported, but try not to hold on to any tension.
Starting point is 00:03:04 Take a deep breath in, fill all the way up, and as you exhale, slowly close your eyes. During the first moment or so of meditation, we just want to allow the body to settle in. This really helps to relax the mind as well. And a few things that can help with that
Starting point is 00:03:38 are softening your face, dropping your jaw, and relaxing your shoulders down. And for the next moment or so, simply follow the natural rise and fall of your own breath. And as you do, you'll find that you draw deeper and deeper within. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:05 So hopefully, you're nice and settled in now. As we go through this meditation, remember the steadiness of the breath and come back to it. That's what this practice is all about. Through ups and downs, good and bad, recognizing that you can be steady through it all.
Starting point is 00:05:39 So bring to mind a good time from your past, a high point in your life. remember what it was like, everything that happened. See yourself there reliving it, all of the good feelings, the people who were there with you. And envision yourself, remaining grateful and humble through this positive time in life, appreciating the success of the moment. But acknowledging it's truth that this is a high point of life. and not an average. You know that you will come down from here.
Starting point is 00:07:05 And that's okay. If anything, it encourages you to appreciate this good moment and to remain humble and grateful for it. Now you can let that visual go, reset for just a second, and in its place, bring to mind a difficult time from your life.
Starting point is 00:07:55 A time when you had some strong, struggles. Remember what it was like. Remember what you were going through. But envision yourself remaining calm, positive, patient, and resilient despite this hard time. Focusing on doing what you need to do to get through a difficult time and appreciating the lessons you can learn and the strength you can gain, but also seeing its truth, that this is a low point and not an average. You will come up from here. You can let go of those visuals and just let your mind just let your mind wander anywhere at once for this last moment or so. All right, it's about time to wrap up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever support you.
Starting point is 00:10:19 you, whether it's a chair or the floor or something else. Take a deep breath in, hold at the top, and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes and take a second to gather yourself. My friend, life is an accumulation of many different moments that we weave together. We are constantly experiencing ups and downs. one part of your life might be thriving while others are starving. This is life. Its waves are constantly rocking the boat in all different directions.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And that's why we have to practice our own sense of steadiness, appreciating the ups and remaining patient during the downs. Focusing on our own thoughts and actions and not being overly concerned with external events that are beyond our control. This, my friend, is the practice of life. And one thing's for sure. I'm glad to be practicing it with you.
Starting point is 00:11:55 So I hope you found this meditation helpful as a way to wrap your head around this mindset of making life a daily practice. I'll be back tomorrow for a series of positive affirmations on this same theme, and I hope to see you there. If you have a second before you go today, I'd really appreciate it if you left a rating and review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or anywhere else you listen to this show.
Starting point is 00:12:24 You can find links to do that in the show notes. Thanks again for being here. And until tomorrow, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
