Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors. Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm Tyler, your host as always, and I'm so thrilled that you've chosen. chosen to join me here today. This week's episodes are all based on a common theme, a little mantra. This too shall pass.
Starting point is 00:00:43 It's a very stoic idea, and it finds its roots in the concept of impermanence, that all things in life are temporary, the good moments, the bad moments, and even life itself. The more we can appreciate this concept and put it into practice in life, the stronger and more resilient will be in tough times, and the more will cherish the good times and the good relationships when they do come.
Starting point is 00:01:15 And there's really no better way to put this into practice than through meditation. And today's meditation is a very simple concept, but it's one that always bears repeating. And this tool is simply letting the thoughts pass. seeing them for what they are, simple firings of the nerves in our bodies. They happen instantaneously, and just like that, we're on to the next. We can't stop our brains from working, but we can manage our relationship with those thoughts. And that's what we'll do today. So let's go ahead and turn to our meditation.
Starting point is 00:01:59 If you're in bed right now, then use this moment to roll over, stand up, and make your way out of bed. And find your way to a comfortable position that you would like to meditate in. I recommend that you meditate sitting up, but I know we all have different spaces and different preferences. So do what works best for you. And once you've found that position, just take one moment to settle. mentally put away everything else that you have to do after this. It will be there when you're done. Take this time for yourself.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Now let's have a big inhale. Fill all the way up. And as you exhale, slowly close your eyes. Use this first moment of meditation to help settle the body. Because the state of your mind, will follow the state of your body. So just take a second now and scan your body from head to toe
Starting point is 00:03:29 and try not to rush through it. When you come across an area that feels a little uncomfortable or tense, just give it a little attention. Maybe shift or adjust or just take a deep breath and allow that area to relax. Find something to anchor your mind on
Starting point is 00:04:17 And a really great anchor is the breath. That steady, in and out rhythm at your own natural pace. But that's not the only thing you can anchor your mind on. You can attach it to anything. The sensation of the chair or the floor beneath you. Just select something that's steady and reliable. You know it's going to be there throughout this meditation. And I'm sure that you'll find
Starting point is 00:05:19 as you rest your attention there on this anchor, that thoughts are going to arise. Some of them might come and go easily. Other ones might unhinge you from that anchor altogether, and that's all okay. That is completely expected, and you're not doing anything wrong if that happens. In fact, truthfully,
Starting point is 00:05:50 we want that to happen. Because when the mind does get unhinged from this anchor, that's your opportunity to bring it back. And you can just let these thoughts come and go, like clouds passing by in the sky, cars driving by on the street outside, or waves crashing on the shoreline. You don't control any of these things.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Just like you can't stop your mind from working. All of these things happen regardless of your desire. How you gain control is by managing your reaction to them. And again, the same is true with your thoughts. So when they come up and distract you, just acknowledge them and reattach your mind to your anchor. All right, we've got a few more minutes of our meditation. So if your mind's wandered off, that's just fine.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Use this moment to bring yourself back to your anchor and reset. It's almost time to wrap up our meditation. So for this last 30 seconds or minute, just let your mind go wherever it wants. Let go of that anchor and just let your mind be free to wander. It's time to wrap up our meditation now. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's supporting you,
Starting point is 00:10:18 whether that's a chair or the floor, or something else. Notice any sounds going on around you. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes, and just take a second to gather yourself. Well, I hope you enjoyed that meditation
Starting point is 00:10:59 and that you're feeling nice and relaxed and steady. This meditation is truly putting our mantra for this week into practice. Everything comes and goes, and our thoughts are no different. Most things in life we don't control, and very often we don't control our thoughts either. We might be able to guide them or encourage them, maybe slow them down or speed them up a little bit.
Starting point is 00:11:29 But for the most part, they're involuntary. You're going to think whether you want your mind to shut off or not. So this practice of anchoring your mind, getting pulled off of that anchor and re-anchoring, in my opinion, is truly the most powerful practice you can do in life. It reminds us that everything comes to pass, that everything is temporary, that we don't control everything,
Starting point is 00:12:00 but what we can control is how we react and manage ourselves. And this brings all of that together, and one very simple routine. So I hope you come back here and practice this all the time because through this very simple meditation, you will find more focus, more energy, more stamina, and your life will be more centered on the things you really want, the things that will make you happy and fulfilled
Starting point is 00:12:31 over the course of a long and prosperous life. But that's all I've got for you today. I'll be back tomorrow with Affirmationation. on this exact same theme, and I hope to see you there. Until then, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
