Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm your host, Tyler, as always, and I'm so happy that you're here today. This week, we're doing a series of episodes around building positive relationships and appreciating your friends. And in today's episode, we'll be doing a meditation. This one is sort of similar to the meditation we did a few weeks ago around Thanksgiving that was more gratitude focused. And this one's a gratitude meditation as well, but it's specifically focused on one person in your life.
Starting point is 00:00:48 Not only will it deepen your appreciation of the person you choose to focus on, but also everyone else in your life. And I think it's really going to help you build stronger relationships. So if you like this meditation, then do go check out the meditation from November 22nd, the gratitude visualization. They both are really wonderful. But for now, let's go ahead and get started with this one. So find a comfortable position to meditate in. As you probably know, I recommend that you meditate sitting up.
Starting point is 00:01:29 But I know we all have different places and different preferences. So do whatever works best for you. Most importantly, we don't want the body to be a distraction. Once you've found that comfortable position, just allow yourself to settle down, release any tension you may be holding. Take a deep breath in. And as you exhale, slowly close your eyes.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Take this first moment just to get settled. It is impossible to be stressed when your body is relaxed. and by being relaxed, this meditation will be deeper and more meaningful to you. So here's a few things that can help you relax, softening your face, dropping your jaw, and relaxing your shoulders down. And you can just follow that natural rise and fall of your own breath at whatever pace feels right to you. And as you do, you'll find that.
Starting point is 00:03:30 that you draw deeper and deeper within. Now that you're settled in, bring to mind the image of someone in your life, someone who you value. And you really truly appreciate. See them in your mind. And maybe even see yourself with them, enjoying each other's time,
Starting point is 00:04:36 and begin to list the things that you appreciate about this person, you can let your mind run free on that idea. Nothing is off limits. It can be broad, like a whole personality trait, or something very specific, an action they took at a certain moment. Again, anything you appreciate about them, add it to the list.
Starting point is 00:05:21 And now that you have a list of things that you appreciate about this person, envision in your mind saying those things to them one by one in as much or as little detail as you'd like and see the appreciation on their face
Starting point is 00:06:10 as you tell them these things see them smile and see them light up and when you're done going through that list you just say thanks and that person then begins to return the sentiment. They tell you all of the things they appreciate about you
Starting point is 00:06:57 from broad things like your personality traits to very specific things, like actions you've taken in a certain moment and you feel yourself, receiving that appreciation. It's genuine. It's warm and it's meaningful. And once they've finished going through that whole list
Starting point is 00:07:52 of all the things they appreciate about you, they say thank you. Now before you let go of this visual and come back to your breath, just send out one more silent thank you to this person. For being in your life, for all of the wonderful things you've shared together so far and for the many more that you hope to share together in the future.
Starting point is 00:08:38 And now you can let all of that go and just come back to the breath for a moment before we wrap up. All right, it's about time to finish up our meditation. So begin to bring yourself back. Notice whatever's supporting you, whether that's a chair or the floor.
Starting point is 00:09:48 notice any sounds going on around you and the air on your skin and then take one final big breath in filling up as deeply as you can and then let all of that air go and as you do you can slowly open your eyes and gather yourself well friends I hope you are filled
Starting point is 00:10:37 with appreciation after that meditation I challenge you to go do exactly what you did in that visualization today. If you can see that person, great. Do it in person. If you can't, that's okay too. Call them or text them.
Starting point is 00:10:56 The sentiment is still really meaningful. And I know it can feel hard or awkward to tell people how much we really value them. But isn't that kind of silly? I mean, why? It feels so good for everyone to hear that kind of thing. So don't let that hold. you back. Go tell that person a few things you really appreciate about them. I know that it'll
Starting point is 00:11:22 make both of you feel great. Well, that's all for today. Tomorrow we'll be back with a series of positive affirmations to help this idea of building positive relationships sink deeper into your mind. I hope to see you there. And until then, go out and have a fantastic day.
