Hi there, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm Tyler, your host as always.
Today, we're back for a meditation on this week's theme of trusting in yourself.
If you're still in bed, then I'd recommend starting with yesterday's Wake Up and Stretch episode,
which will get you up,
and then you can come back to this one to meditate if you'd like.
What we're going to do in today's meditation
is practice our intuitive sense of making decisions,
figuring out what feels right to you.
Trusting in yourself can seem pretty hard at times,
but here's the thing.
We all know how to do that innately.
You see it in children, you see it in animals.
But over time, we are conditioned,
to ignore it.
And that really hurts us because it leads us down paths that really aren't a good fit.
So today, we're going to work on getting back to that voice that lives inside of you.
We're going to try to unlearn some of that conditioning that's keeping you from who you really are.
So find a comfortable seat, and let's go ahead and get started.
Take a second just to make sure you're all set up.
You want to be sitting upright but relaxed.
Try not to hold on to any tension.
Take a deep breath in.
And as you exhale, slowly close your eyes.
You can begin just by following your own breath, that rise and fall of your chest,
feeling the sensation of the air leaving and entering.
And as you do, with each breath,
Just allow your mind and your body to settle that bit more, softening your face, relaxing
your jaw, and letting your shoulders drop down.
And as you continue to breathe and settle in, you'll slowly draw deeper and deeper within
yourself.
Now that you're settled in, take a moment just to check in and see where you're at right now.
Start by noticing anything you feel physically, and then take note of how you're feeling mentally.
What thoughts are popping up? And then notice what you're feeling emotionally.
What feelings are arising right now? And let's just consider the physical, mental, and emotional
things you just noticed to be your baseline, at least for the moment. Now,
bring to mind a situation in which you need some direction, some guidance.
And I'd recommend starting with something a little bit simpler at first,
maybe not a huge life decision,
and just visualize that situation you need a little guidance on.
Whatever it is, imagine different courses of action you could take.
Anything is fair game.
There's no need to rule anything.
out just yet. And as you sort through these different options, notice what feedback you get.
What physical sensations arise. What thought patterns come up. What emotions and feelings arise.
Don't try to judge any of these things. Just take note. We're only trying to gather information.
Just keep moving through those different courses of action you could take.
imagining what they might look like, and then noting any thoughts, any feelings, any physical
sensations that come up.
Try to notice which possibilities feel more intuitively right and which feel a little intuitively
off.
Listen to the feeling more than whatever your mind is running about.
What feels right to you?
What sits well with your body?
Does any one option create a resounding yes?
And if you do find a resounding yes,
sit with that for a moment.
See how your body,
your feelings, your thoughts, your physical sensations react to it.
And see if it remains or if it changes.
Many things take a little time and a little mariner.
And that's okay. That is exactly what we want to do in this practice. Keep going through those
different ideas and options. And if something intuitively feels right, sitting with it for a moment,
we'll be here for another minute or two. All right, now you can let all of that visualizing go.
Allow your mind to wander freely for a moment. Whatever it wants to think about,
wherever it wants to go. Okay.
It's time to wrap up now.
So begin to bring yourself out of that meditation.
Notice any sounds going on around you.
Notice the air on your skin.
Notice whatever's supporting you.
The chair.
The ground.
Take a deep breath in.
Last one of the day.
And when you exhale, slowly open your eyes.
And just gather yourself.
All right, friends.
So I hope you enjoyed that meditation.
and that it helped you to find some guidance.
What we did was focus on your intuitive decision-making,
your innate ability to figure out what's right for you.
We all have this, but it's often silenced and pushed out of the way.
I am a very analytical, logical thinker,
so at first, this kind of approach felt unnatural to me.
Maybe it did for you too.
But here's why it's important.
There is no amount of logic that works on human emotions.
None of us can think our way into happiness
in a relationship that doesn't feel right,
or a job that doesn't feel right.
We might deal with it, but it will weigh on us,
and it certainly won't make us happy in the long term.
By learning to listen to our intuition
and doing what feels right,
we'll find things and make decisions that are better fit for us.
You see children and animals do this all the time.
You know how dogs and babies and young children can read a room really well?
They react to the energy of the people there.
Dogs will bark at people that they don't like, even if they don't know them or have
no reason to think that they're bad.
This intuitive nature is in you too.
We just have to relearn how to use it because we've been told to push it down and ignore
it.
Remember, we are all unique.
What works for others won't necessarily work for you.
So trust in yourself.
And come back to this meditation to practice listening to yourself
if you're struggling with a big decision.
But that's all for now.
I'll talk to you tomorrow for a motivational episode
on this week's theme of trusting yourself.
Until then, go out, trust in yourself,
believe in yourself, be yourself, and have a fantastic day.
