Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors.
Hello, my friend. Good morning. Welcome to Wake Me Up.
and to this meditation on overcoming feelings of failure or rejection.
The road to success in anything is lined with setbacks,
and so we must learn to overcome them in a positive way.
In this meditation, we'll visualize how it feels to emotionally respond to failure
in a more positive and productive, solution-focused way
that will fuel you for success.
So let's get started.
If you're still in bed, I recommend rolling over, making your way up and out of bed.
But wherever you are, go ahead and find a comfortable position that you'd like to meditate in.
I do recommend that you meditate sitting up, but that's simply so you don't fall asleep.
And once you've found that position, just allow your body to settle.
mentally put aside anything else that's going on in life.
It'll still be there when you're done with this meditation.
Choose this time for yourself.
Now take a deep breath in.
Fill all the way up, hold at the top.
And when you exhale, slowly close your eyes.
Let's take a few more deep breaths together,
just to help the mind
settle into a meditative state.
So inhale, filling up, nice and deep, hold,
and then exhale, release.
Just let the air fall back out.
Once more, inhale, feeling the air in the expansion of your chest.
Hold, and now exhale and release.
And let's help the body soften into this meditative,
state a little bit too by relaxing the muscles of the face, dropping your jaw, and finally just
letting your shoulders settle down. And now, begin to call to mind a time when you felt like you failed
at something. And it can be anything, big or small, a relationship, a test, an athletic competition,
a job interview, choose something in which you're willing to sit with the feelings,
and begin to remember all of the details of that experience exactly what happened,
where you were at, any build-up or anticipation, the other people that were involved,
and examine the thoughts that arise as you remember this time,
keeping in mind that it is in the past.
And it's not changing your life here, now, in this current moment anymore.
Notice if those thoughts or feelings resonate anywhere in particular in your body.
Perhaps there are feelings of judgment or embarrassment, feeling let down or disappointed.
All of these things are okay.
They're perfectly normal responses.
But also recognize that you have moved.
moved on from this event.
Time doesn't want you to linger in that feeling.
In fact, the instant this experience happened,
time moved on.
And in doing so, it gave you another shot,
another chance, another opportunity at success.
So see this perceived failure for what it is.
Exactly that, a perceived failure.
Consider it to be an experiment, a trial, a practice run, for when the time comes for you to truly succeed.
And consider how you can reframe this experience in a more positive way.
What lessons did you learn?
What steps will you take differently next time?
Now let's begin to look forward to the future.
Envisioning a time in the future when you are presented.
with the same opportunity, the same chance at success.
But this time, you've learned, you've experienced, you've adjusted your behavior and your approach.
See yourself succeeding.
Notice what changes it might take to bring that success and see this future success as effortless.
as something that happens naturally in the progression of you.
And notice what it will feel like when that success finally arrives.
The joy, the pride, the sense of sheer relief.
All right.
Now you can let all of that go.
It's almost time to wrap up our meditation.
But before we do, just.
Let your mind wander anywhere it wants to go for the next 30 seconds or so.
All right, my friend, now it's time to wrap up our meditation.
So begin to bring yourself back.
Notice whatever's supporting you, whether it's a chair, the floor, or something else.
Take one final, deep breath in, the deepest one you've taken yet.
And as you exhale, slowly open your eyes.
Gather yourself, and take a second to come out of that.
My friend, I encourage you to open your heart to both failure and success.
Because after all, failure and success are just labels.
Every perceived failure is actually a success.
It's just not the success we intended.
A mistake is a lesson learned.
A lack of effort is encouragement to work harder next time.
Understand that neither failure nor success define who you are.
What defines you is how you respond and your willingness to learn and grow.
Try to embrace failure with an eagerness to learn and use it as thread to weave the fabric of your success.
Embrace the journey.
It will be full of ups and downs.
But that is what makes the long-awaited.
success worthwhile.
That's all I've got for you today.
Thanks so much for choosing to be here.
I hope to see you again soon here on Wake Me Up.
And until then, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
