Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
As always, I'm your host, Tyler, and I'm so glad that you're here.
This week, we've been talking about being objective.
And a good analogy for this is to imagine life as a Ferris wheel.
Sometimes you'll be at the top, and you'll be.
be feeling unstoppable.
But the thing about a wheel means that you'll spend some time at the bottom too.
It's easy to let life's ups and downs rule your mood.
But what if you took a step back and saw that things aren't so black and white?
What if you saw things objectively and simply savored every experience for exactly what it was?
After all, the fun of a Ferris wheel is going around in the whole circle.
You've got to ride through the bottom to enjoy the top.
And with today's episode, we'll open our minds to enjoy every spot on the Ferris Wheel of Life.
But first, let's take a moment just to pause.
Bring your awareness to yourself.
Notice how you feel, how your body feels, how your mind feels.
Try to observe all of this objectively.
Without attaching a positive or a negative meaning to,
to it. Each sensation just is. It's a physiological happening of your body. Now, let's take a few
breaths together. So inhale, take a deep breath in, filling up with whatever it is you're feeling
today, and then exhale, slowly let it out, and release any judgments you've made about yourself
or what your day will be like. Once more, inhale and exhale.
releasing any expectations, any judgments.
Great.
Now feel free to go about your morning.
Make some breakfast, have a stretch,
do whatever you like to do to get your day started.
And while you do that,
I'm going to tell you about the Taoist parable of the Chinese farmer.
It's a story that goes like this.
A farmer and his family owned a horse.
His neighbors often told him how lucky he was to have a horse,
that was so fine.
But the farmer always replied,
maybe it's good luck,
maybe it's bad luck,
who really knows?
One day, the horse broke through the gate
and ran away.
The farmer's neighbors lamented the loss,
remarking that it was a terrible bit of bad luck.
But the farmer said,
good luck, bad luck,
who really knows?
Days later, the horse came back to the farm,
along with seven more wild horses.
And upon seeing this,
the neighbors exclaimed at the farmer's good fortune.
The farmer, though, ever wise, simply stated,
good luck or bad luck.
Who really knows?
And so the parable goes on in the same way,
following along with the Taoist belief
that things are neither good nor bad.
They just are.
And there's a simple, profound truth to this.
Anything and everything always has good and bad.
What you see depends only on how you look at it.
Friends, life is just a series of events,
and we've learned to judge these events as right or wrong,
good or bad, big or small.
Through conditioning, we've made these divisions for ourselves,
These categories, and the only reason we find them true is because we believe it to be so.
We've been taught to take the whole that is our life, separated into parts,
and assign those parts the roles that they will play.
We put them in boxes.
These are just our own interpretations of experiences,
but we often make it a habit to take these interpretations and make them our
reality. Allow me to make a suggestion. Let go of these boxes, these divisive labels,
and the need for definite categories and answers. Everything in life is a spectrum. The beauty of
life is in this spectrum and in its mystery. Something might seem bad at first, only to turn out
the opposite later. So try to observe the present without judgment.
observe it objectively.
Because the truth is, every moment has the possibility to bring something completely new.
The ability to observe even the most painful moments objectively is wildly valuable.
It's easy to become lost in the negativity and hurt and just wallow in it.
But you have to remember that there's no way of knowing what waits for you beyond that.
It might be the most beautiful thing of your life that's coming.
You've been given a wonderful opportunity to learn, to overcome, and to grow.
Every moment has infinite possibilities.
So who's to say what comes next?
Remember the farmer whose response is always,
maybe it's good luck, maybe it's bad luck.
Who really knows?
Labeling things as good or bad is limited.
you, I promise. It's preventing you from seeing all of the beauty in the present,
realizing all of your options, and achieving your full potential. The good news is that the power
to change your reality is in your own hands. What you're experiencing isn't good, it isn't bad,
it just is. And it's up to you to decide what to do with it. So free yourself of these limitations
these labels, these boxes that you put yourself in.
There is so much to explore beyond that.
Bathe in the beauty of the present moment without judgment.
Simply enjoy it for what it is.
Enjoy the coolness of a cloudy day,
just as you would bask in the warmth of the sun.
Friends, all of life is an opportunity.
There is an entire world that opens,
up when you begin to see things objectively. Losing your job becomes the opportunity for you to find
something to work on that sparks your flame. Death or loss becomes an opportunity to appreciate life
and the things that you do have. For every door that closes, you are given the opportunity to open a new one.
You alone have the power to expand your horizons
and see the endless gifts that life brings you.
My friend, you create your own reality.
Just by seeing something as a possibility, you've turned it into one.
And how exciting is it that there are an infinite number of possibilities
that you'll encounter in a lifetime?
But only if you choose to see them.
So as you face the beginning of a new day, make that choice.
Choose to see the present for what it is, a gift of infinite possibilities.
Not necessarily good, not necessarily bad either.
Just another day, another chance.
Release that judgment that comes with the desire to label things.
Life isn't easily categorized.
into neat little boxes.
That's just way too limiting
to encompass the complexity of life.
Reality is a wide-ranging spectrum.
And especially, don't apply those limits to yourself.
You, of all people, get to decide
what your life is going to be,
how you're going to react to what happens
and what you're going to do with each moment.
So why not make the most of it?
It's an opportunity to change the way you see the world and begin seeing it more objectively.
And when you start seeing the world in an objective, non-judgmental way,
you will be amazed by the possibilities you open yourself up to.
Well, friends, that's all for right now.
Thank you so much for joining me today.
I'll talk to you soon, and whatever your day may bring,
I hope you take a step back, see it objectively, and turn whatever happens into a fantastic day.
