Hi there, and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made.
I'm your host, Tyler, as always.
Friends, we have a lot of distractions in life.
We have a lot of things and people vying for our time and attention.
In today's motivation, we'll hone in on why it's so important to clear your mind of any unwanted and unhelpful thoughts and distractions, so that you can make the most of your day and your life.
If you're still in bed, then I'd recommend starting with Monday's Wake Up and Stretch episode, which will get you up and out of bed.
And then you can come back to this episode to get motivated.
Wherever you are, whatever you're doing,
Just pause for a moment.
Take a second to center your mind on an intention for the day.
What would you like to get out of this day?
Maybe there's something specific,
or perhaps something more general like balance or rest,
or even having fun.
And if you set an intention earlier this week,
maybe you remember that one.
Now let's take a few deep breaths and collect energy for these intentions.
Take an inhale.
collecting energy to support this intention.
Hold it.
And then release, letting go of anything that doesn't further your intention.
Once more now, inhale, filling up and collecting energy to support your intention.
Hold and exhale.
Getting rid of anything that doesn't help your intention.
So feel free to go about your morning routine, making your coffee or going for a walk,
whatever you like to do.
And while you do that,
I'll point out a few all too common reasons
that we waste time and effort in life on distractions.
First, we're distracted by what others think we should be doing.
We spend so much time doing what our parents and our society tell us to do.
Try to put aside any shoulds in your mind.
You know, those things people say you should be doing.
Why? Why should you spend your precious time living the life that someone else wants you to live?
And these shoulds can come from a lot of places, our upbringing, our friends and family, our work, our society.
But this is your story, and you have a book of blank pages to fill.
It's your choice what to write. Are you going to write your own story?
or the story someone else wants you to write.
I hope you write your own.
And that requires us to clear the mind
of everything people tell us we should be doing.
You should do what you want to do.
Second, we get distracted and held back by limiting beliefs.
We've got to clear our minds of anything and everything
that tells us we can't do something.
These kinds of ideas get planted in us
slowly and quietly over time.
We don't often notice them,
but they creep into our subconscious
and spread like weeds,
secretly taking over.
I'll use myself as an example.
I was a musician growing up,
and I loved it.
I spent all of my time playing and practicing,
but I didn't pursue it after high school,
despite having scholarships to do so,
because a few people had insisted
that you can't make money playing music.
In hindsight, that's totally inaccurate.
There are plenty of people who make a good living playing music
and being creative, and they don't all have to be famous.
In fact, I do that now, making podcasts and other content.
But that limiting belief kept me from it for over a decade.
So make sure to become aware of the ways that limiting beliefs like this
have been planted in you.
And when you notice them, question them really hard.
Where did they come from?
Are they actually true?
Can you find examples of people breaking these limiting beliefs?
Limiting beliefs may hold a small grain of truth,
but otherwise they're almost always wrong and baseless.
They can be worked around.
They're obstacles, not complete barriers.
So clear them from your mind.
allow yourself to become everything you want and deserve.
Consider this question,
what's really truly important to you?
When you're lying on your deathbed,
what will make you feel content with the life you've lived?
What will make you fulfilled and at ease,
knowing you've made the most of your time?
Maybe you know the answer to that right away,
and maybe you don't.
For most of us, we probably have,
some idea, but we still have a lot left to discover. Wherever you are on that journey of
self-discovery, remember that your time is limited. So you have a choice to make. Are you going to
give your focus and energy to the wants and needs of others? Or are you going to clear everything
else from your mind and your to-do list and pursue what you dream of? The number one regret
among the elderly is this.
I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself,
not the life others expected from me.
So take it from those who have the experience and the hindsight.
Get rid of all of the voices saying you should do this,
or you shouldn't do that.
Remove the limits and boundaries that others try to place on you.
If they don't think something is possible or worthwhile,
that's their problem, not yours.
clear out those sources of negativity and limitation and have the courage to live the life that is
true to you the life that you want that's what you should be doing focusing on you your dreams
your aspirations not the dreams aspirations and expectations of others and that highlights the
importance of setting an intention like the one you said earlier this morning
or earlier this week in Monday's Wake Up and Stretch episode.
An intention gives you an anchor.
It gives you a compass to keep you going in your own unique direction.
The truth is that you're sitting on a gift,
the gift of life,
the gift of time,
the gift of today.
Another gift like this isn't promised.
So have the courage to live this day
in a way that's true to you
and clear your mind and your calendar of everything else.
Well, that's all for today.
Thanks so much for tuning in.
I'll talk to you soon.
And until then, go out, chase your dreams,
and have an absolutely fantastic day.
