Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. This week, we've been talking about intentions, specifically good intentions. They pay off even if you make mistakes. Today, in this motivational bit, we'll dive deeper into the concept of intentions, and see how they really play a huge role in our lives, more than you may think.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Then we'll align ourselves towards having good intentions all of the time so that we can see the benefits that come from a well-intentioned mind. But before we dive in, just pause for one moment. Take a deep breath and release, and just envision for a second what your life would be like if you were always well-intentioned, and surrounded by people like that too. Maybe even close your eyes while you do this, if you'd like.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Visualize that life and consider what might change about your relationships, what might change about your career or the other aspects of your life, what might happen to your mood, take a deep breath in, and soak up all of the possibilities in that well-intentioned future, and then exhale and just let that all go. Feel free to go about your morning routine, doing whatever you like, whether that's making a cup of coffee or tea,
Starting point is 00:02:23 having a stretch, going for a walk, journaling, whatever you'd like. And while you do that, let's dive deeper into the ways that intention unconsciously shapes our lives. The truth is, intentions underlie everything. And that's odd because we rarely talk about them.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Oftentimes, when we do talk about intentions with others, we will hide or alter our true intention. We don't believe that the other person is being honest about theirs. In many ways, our unconscious goals are more important than the words we say. In fact, studies show that 93% of communication is nonverbal. So let's look at some examples to help wrap our minds around this. We all know people who just seem to reek with bad intentions and ill-will. Anything they say, we don't fully believe them. We think they have an ulterior motive,
Starting point is 00:03:27 so we don't trust them and we avoid them like the plague. And sometimes it's because of something objective that we can point to, like their actions don't match their words. But sometimes it's just an unconscious reading we do of others. something seems off, so we don't give them the benefit of the doubt. And then there's the complete opposite of that. Those people who you can just tell would never mean to her to fly. And again, most of the time, we read that in unconscious ways. We trust these people more easily and forgive them more quickly.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Then there's also examples from dating and relationships. Like the classic question, what are your intentions here? What are you looking for in this relationship? And people often struggle with this question. Perhaps that's because they don't exactly know what they want at that moment. And that's okay. Not knowing, if it's honest, can still be well-intentioned. But how many examples can you think of either in your life or someone else's
Starting point is 00:04:37 where you've doubted the honesty of someone's response to that question? I certainly can think of a few. So clearly there's a subconscious thing that we all read about intentions. They're much more than words. They're actions too. We see this in the more regimented aspects of society as well. Even though it's a bit of a morbid subject, crimes are actually a great example of intentions. These are literally rules that we've built and structured our entire order of life around.
Starting point is 00:05:11 An intention is at the heart of basically all crimes. at least in the United States. We've built different levels of it. For example, you specifically intended to cause this harm. That's usually the highest level. And then there's recklessness. You chose to act recklessly, and because of that, someone was in danger. Then there's knowledge, too.
Starting point is 00:05:34 You knew something was wrong, and you did it anyways. So you can see these examples of the rules we've built into life. and all of this is to say that intentions play a critical role, though it's often hidden from sight. So what can we do about this? How can we avoid ill-intentioned people and find more well-intentioned people? Well, first, by being well-intentioned ourselves,
Starting point is 00:06:03 that will attract similar people. By keeping our own intentions in line, we'll be better at sniffing out those who are like us and those who aren't. And the other thing you can do is to be open and honest about your intentions. Try to be more self-aware and more vocal about your views and goals. That doesn't mean accosting other people for their views and goals, but just trying to be honest,
Starting point is 00:06:31 actually saying what your intentions are when you undertake something. And ask people what their intentions are too. It's not a perfect solution, but it most certainly helps. Honesty and transparency may sting in the moment, but they always make life better in the long run. So, to close out, let's do some affirmations that will encourage us to be well-intentioned people in anything and everything we do. Repeat after me, either out loud or in your mind. I approach everything in life with good intentions. I share my intentions openly with other people.
Starting point is 00:07:29 I attract other well-intentioned people. By putting positivity into the world, it will come back to me. I wish harm on no one. I am self-aware. I am honest and transparent. I am forgiving of others who mean well. I align my goals with my intentions. I feel good when I have good intentions.
Starting point is 00:08:29 I support others who are well-intentioned. When I pursue positive things with a good heart, greatness will follow. My friends, I hope you are inspired to go out and be a good person. Share that goal with everyone, and I'm sure that you will become a beacon of positive light in the world. That's all for today. I'll talk to you soon. And until then, go out.
Starting point is 00:09:19 share your good intentions with the world, and have an absolutely fantastic day. Thank you so much for listening today.
