Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made. I'm your host, Tyler, and I'm so glad to have you here. Today, we've got a little motivation in store. I hope it will help you take better care of yourself, prioritize yourself, and enjoy life a bit more.
Starting point is 00:00:45 So let's jump right in and get started. Wherever you find yourself at this point of the morning, whether you're up and about already or still lying in bed, just pause for a second. Appreciate that you've just received a very special gift, another chance at life. Another day for you to seize. Another chance to experience something new.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Another opportunity to give and receive love. That is a very special gift. In fact, today and every other day you live are the best gifts you'll ever receive. So let's take a few deep breaths before the day begins. Inhale, taking a little bit of. in the air, the energy from all around you. Hold it at the top and then release. Let it all go nice and steady. No need to force it out. And let's do that again. So inhale, filling all the way into your belly. Hold it and exhale, just releasing. And let's do one more just for good measure.
Starting point is 00:02:22 So inhale, even deeper this time. Hold it and release. wonderful. So if you're still in bed, go ahead and get up. Start with your morning routine. Brew your coffee, make your breakfast, go for your walk, whatever pleases you the most. But whatever you do, don't waste a moment of this gift, this chance at life. This chance you've been given today is yours, and yours alone. Sure, other people have been given the gift of today as well, but only you hold the power to make the decisions regarding yourself. In the end, you are the only person that you'll spend every second of your life with. That means to be happy, healthy, and fulfilled. You have to prioritize yourself.
Starting point is 00:03:36 It may seem selfish, but it's true. You can't take care of anyone else unless you take care of yourself first. I've been thinking a lot lately about a question I ask other people frequently. How can I help you? I've been thinking about it in the context of myself. That is, asking myself, how can I help? What can I do to make my own life, easier, better.
Starting point is 00:04:11 How can I get out of my own way and stop holding myself back from everything that I want? It's actually been really insightful. For example, I've found that I get mad at myself about things, like not filling up the water pitcher after I've emptied it, or getting sucked into my phone when I'm trying to be productive. These are little things, but they add up. They lead to frustration with myself. And that's a really difficult thing to deal with because it's internalized. It's pointed towards me.
Starting point is 00:04:48 I'm to blame. So I've been trying to help myself out lately. You know, doing the little things to make life easier on myself. That means saying no to things I don't really want to do. Making time for the hobbies I appreciate. and making sure that I always refill the water pitcher. I've found that my relationship with myself has benefited. I appreciate myself more.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I acknowledge my own hard work more often. I'm more understanding when I'm tired or worn out and more able to give myself breaks. And best of all, it's just made life that bit easier. So as you go through the day, day today. Think to yourself. How can I help myself out? What can I do to make my life easier? I'm sure new ideas will pop up all day long, but why not take a minute to think about that now? Friends, you won't be able to take care of anyone else until you can take care of yourself.
Starting point is 00:06:32 You won't be able to help anyone else unless you learn to help yourself. These are simple, truths. But as with most things, life tends to make them more complex and difficult. So I've come up with a few ways that you can help yourself today and every other day. First off, a no to something you don't want is a yes to what you do want. Our time is our most valuable resource. Wasting it on things we don't care about means we've lost time for things that we do care about. So never be afraid to turn down an invite or an opportunity that you simply aren't interested in. If you say yes and go, you'll probably end up annoyed anyways.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Secondly, depend only on yourself for your own happiness. True happiness, true fulfillment and contentment with life come from within. Sure, they can be enhanced by others. But you can be on the best vacation you've ever dreamed of with the coolest people and still be miserable if you don't like the life you'll return to after vacation. Focus your time and your energy on the things that bring you inherent joy, the things you can do all alone and still have a total blast. schedule those things into your daily routine.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Third, control your sphere of influence. We've all had bad relationships, be it with a friend, a family member, or a colleague. Take ownership of the fact that you control the people who are in your life and get most of your time. Prioritize the people who make your life better, who challenge you to improve your life. and encourage your curiosity.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Your sphere of influence also includes the media you consume. So consider how you can replace or control your exposure to things that often bring about negativity, like the news or social media. Fourth, stop seeking approval from others. Instead, ask for your own approval. It doesn't matter whether everyone you know says, you should do something. If it doesn't feel right to you, then that's what matters.
Starting point is 00:09:18 You live with your own conscience every day. So in the end, your own approval is what's most important. And finally, take some time just to be yourself every day. It can be just 10 or 15 minutes. But make sure you maximize that time. Put away any sources of distraction and ask yourself, what do I want to do with this free time?
Starting point is 00:09:50 And just do it. Don't think about it. It can be something crazy and silly. There's no need to move mountains during this time. It's for you to enjoy yourself, your own company, to be a kid again, to be curious, to explore, to dream, to play, and enjoy this very special gift that you've been given.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Another day of this thing called life. Well, that's all I've got for today, my friends. I really appreciate you tuning in. I'll talk to you next week. I hope you remember to give yourself a hand today, help yourself out, and make your own life a little easier. If you do that, then I am certain.
