Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors. Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm your host, Tyler, and I'm so glad you're here today. This week, we're exploring the topic of living in your truth because there's no better feeling than being authentically you. When you have a sense of balance and equilibrium, when you know how and when to say no to things you're not interested in,
Starting point is 00:00:48 and when you do the things that bring you joy. So today and the rest of this week, we'll be talking about how to harness the power of your authentic self. but before we dive in, just take a moment to pause and think about a quality of yourself, something about your personality or one of your traits that you really appreciate, something about yourself that you're really grateful for. Now take a deep breath in, fill all the way up with gratitude for yourself. And as you exhale, let go of anything that might prevent you for,
Starting point is 00:01:50 from being who you truly are. Once more, inhale, filling up with appreciation for yourself, and exhale, release. Now you can feel free to go about your morning, make your coffee or tea, have a stretch or go for a walk, whatever it is you like to do.
Starting point is 00:02:29 And while you do that, let's talk about how powerful it can be to live your truth. And let's start with a definition. How do we define living your truth anyway? Well, being true to yourself means your words, your actions, and your thoughts align with your values and beliefs. It means you aren't worried about what people think of you.
Starting point is 00:03:02 You don't live to fit a societal mold or to satisfy other people's expectations of you. You generally make decisions that have a possible. positive impact on your life and the life of those you care about. Importantly, you don't feel guilty or ashamed for speaking honest words or being and acting yourself. Now, being true can be difficult because there are so many messages telling us to be and look a certain way. Sometimes it feels easier to conform and just do things to please others. That allows us to fly under the radar of criticism. But sometimes we have to go against the grain to honor our truth.
Starting point is 00:03:55 It's a lifelong journey of unlearning and relearning. A key sign that shows you are struggling with this is self-sabotage. And self-sabotage happens when we make decisions that hurt our growth or health and hold us back. You say you want one thing, and then you do something else that prevents you from having it. Self-sabotage disconnects us from ourselves, and it creates guilt and resentment within. The good thing is that we have opportunities every single day to change our habits and start living in alignment with our true self. You can start in simple ways, like in everyday conversations. you can state your own opinions and beliefs
Starting point is 00:04:45 while not forcing them on others and allowing others the opportunity to disagree with you. Being true to yourself means letting go of the fear of being imperfect. It means opening yourself up to criticism. It's vulnerable and it's sometimes messy. But realizing that life isn't about being or looking perfect is what sets us free.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Because you know what? Even when you aren't being true to yourself, you're imperfect and criticized anyways. And most importantly, it probably makes you unhappy. So if you're going to have flaws and be criticized, you might as well do it being your honest, true self. My friend, it's time to let go of who you think you're supposed to be and embrace who you really are.
Starting point is 00:05:49 You only have one life. Why spend it trying to be someone you're not? Remember, everybody else is taken. You are the only person that you can truly be. And being yourself doesn't only help you. It helps the entire world. Because you bring something unique. you have something that nobody else does.
Starting point is 00:06:19 But the hard part is this. Living in your truth is 100% up to you. Being who you want takes work. It takes discipline and commitment to make decisions that fulfill you and make you feel great. You are fully capable of that. You're going to wander down the wrong path at times and that's okay.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Through mistakes and experience, you will learn who you want to be. Christine Evangelu says, we are not meant to live in insulation, within the confines of a box or beneath a protective shell. So this means that errors are all part of the human experience, and you strengthen yourself through it all
Starting point is 00:07:13 and find your own peace in forgiveness. So no matter what you've been through, remember, you deserve to feel satisfied, fulfilled, and happy. Take the time to reflect on what you really want, on the life you really want to live, on your beliefs and your values. Make time and space to go deep within yourself. and figure out who you are.
Starting point is 00:07:49 This might mean saying no to some things to give yourself that time. But the only way to live authentically as yourself is to understand who you truly are. So do what you need to do to make it happen. I promise it's worth the investment. Take the time to look within and you'll find all of the answers you need. The only thing holding you back is you.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Other than that, there's nothing that can stop you from being your true, authentic self. And the sooner you start being true to yourself and stop living to appease others, the sooner you'll be happy, successful, fulfilled, and free. Well, that's all for this episode. I hope you enjoyed it, and I hope that it has you inspired to be true to yourself. I'll be back tomorrow with a really wonderful meditation on this same theme. It will help you figure out who you are
Starting point is 00:09:07 and develop the confidence to be that authentic version of you. So I hope to see you there. And until then, go out and have a fantastic day. Thank you.
