Good morning. Welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm Tyler, your host, as always.
This week, we've been talking about spreading love to everyone.
The power of love and appreciation is truly extraordinary.
Love has the ability to disarm anger and resent.
to build unexpected bonds,
to heal pain,
and to encourage us to reach for new heights.
Being a source of this kind of positivity
can have powerful effects on your life.
The more good you put out,
the more comes back to you.
And today's episode is designed to motivate you
to spread more love in your own life.
I hope it brings you good cheer and wonderful results.
But before we dive in, just pause for one moment and envision yourself as a beacon of love and appreciation.
See your positive light spreading everywhere you go.
See all of the smiles you'd create with your kind and supportive words.
See all of the lives you'd change.
See the better world you'd cultivate.
And enjoy that great feeling it would give you.
knowing that you've made other people feel seen and appreciated.
Although we often say that love is selfless,
there is an element of selfishness to it,
because it makes you feel good too.
And that's part of what's so great about it.
It makes us all better off.
So take a deep breath in
and fill up with that positivity, that love.
Hold at the top,
and then exhale, release.
Once more, inhale, filling all the way up with that good feeling.
Hold and release.
Great.
Now feel free to go about your morning, doing whatever you like to do.
A walk, a cup of coffee, anything.
And while you do, I'll tell you a story about how this mindset of spreading love and appreciation
helped me in my own life.
I think I've mentioned before on the show that I used to be a lawyer.
That was my first career.
And I used to work in a big, busy law firm.
It was my first real job, and I was the lowest on the totem pole.
Now, there was one senior attorney I worked with who everyone was a bit cautious of.
She could be difficult, and I'd seen the results of her short temper.
Whenever I was on a project with her, I'd try to stay out of the way just to avoid
issues. But eventually, a project came up and it was just the two of us, me and her.
Now I really had to face it. I had no escape and no hiding place. And it was only a matter of time
before I was the subject of her temper. The project grew and eventually started taking up a lot of
my time, such that most of my day was spent working with her. I got to the point where I had to do
something. I had to figure out a way to change our dynamic because I couldn't keep dealing with
the extra stress that came from working with her. So I went to another senior attorney who'd
become a friend and mentor and I asked what I might do. They recommended a path of appreciation,
telling her that I appreciated working with her and all of the guidance and training she was
offering to me. And honestly, I didn't really like that idea at first.
mainly because I didn't feel that way.
But there was an element of truth to it,
and I had to recognize that.
I was learning a lot from her,
even if it was traumatizing me.
I didn't have another good idea,
so I tried it out.
The next time I saw her,
I took a moment just to say thanks,
for working with me on the project,
for showing and teaching me new things
that I needed to know as an attorney.
And it worked like a child.
She immediately lightened up.
She smiled, and she actually thanked me.
She said that she enjoyed working with me too.
And after that, her demeanor towards me changed forever.
No, we didn't become best friends, that's for sure.
But we could work together in peace and harmony.
If she got frustrated, she didn't get angry and she didn't yell.
And so just like that, with a few simple words,
I had made my job exponentially better.
So if you have a difficult person in your life,
remember that love and appreciation can be the elixir.
And if it works with difficult people,
think of what it will do with people who are easy to get along with.
That's what's so great about love and appreciation.
All it takes is your own initiative and a few words.
Love is perhaps the most powerful tool we have.
It is that most basic of human needs and desires.
We're all born crying, hoping to be loved.
Love can disarm the angry.
It can fill the empty-hearted,
and it can encourage the demoralized.
So choose to greet this day with love.
It's the greatest power you will ever wield.
A bomb may destroy a city,
but love can unite nations.
People may disagree with your views,
but if you show them love,
they will never disrespect your differences.
Look on all things with love in your heart,
and you will find yourself reborn,
as though you had never truly lived a day before.
I firmly believe there is something to love in everything.
Love the sun for its warmth,
but love the rain for its ability to cleanse.
Love the light because it shows you the path ahead,
but also love the darkness,
for it reveals the moon and stars.
Love those who are full of energy and spirit
for the happiness they spread,
but also love those who are downtrodden
because you never know the depths of their despair.
Use love to guide the words you choose.
Applaud your detractors, and you will gain their respect.
Appreciate your friends, and they will become like family.
Avoid criticizing, for the act of criticism in and of itself,
lowers you to the level of the one you criticize.
And above all, love yourself.
Just as everyone deserves to feel,
loved, you deserve to receive it from yourself.
It will heal you.
It will strengthen you.
And it will encourage you.
So go about this day with love.
And love will find ways into your life that you never even dreamed could exist.
Well, that's all for today.
I hope you're inspired and ready to go spread some appreciation and support to everyone around you.
I'll talk to you next week.
And until then, go out, spread love everywhere you go,
and have an absolutely fantastic day.
