Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors.
Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. I'm Tyler. I'm your host, and I'm sorry.
so glad that you're here today.
One thing that pretty much all of us struggle with at some point is living the life we want
rather than trying to live the life that everyone else wants for us.
You see, when we try to live the life that other people want us to live, we end up trying
so hard, forcing things, and in the end, we're not as happy, we're not as fulfilled.
There's a lot of tension in this way of living.
And so today and throughout the rest of this week,
we're going to talk about what it means to relax
into being the true you.
We'll cover the importance of living life in your own way,
which will lead you to a life of ease, relaxation,
happiness, and fulfillment.
I'm sure that after this week's episodes,
you'll feel less tension in your life,
and you'll feel more free to live.
live the way you want to. Before we dive into all of this, let's take a moment just to pause,
close your eyes, and just become aware of your inner world for a moment. How much relaxation
can you invite right now? Where can you send ease? Where can you let go of tension? Take one deep breath
in. Fill all the way up. Hold at the top and then exhale.
and release.
Great.
Now, if you're in bed,
use this moment to roll over
and make your way up and out of bed.
There's another beautiful opportunity
at this thing called life
lying ahead of you,
so don't let it slip away.
And you can feel free to go about your morning routine,
whatever it is you like to do.
And while you do that,
let's come back to this idea
of relaxing and to who you truly are.
I recently heard a beautiful Chinese proverb,
and it goes like this.
Tension is who we think we ought to be.
To relax is to be who you are.
And I really think that quote resonates with most of us.
We live in a world where we're taught
that we should live our lives in a certain way.
And often, that doesn't align with who we really are,
our core values and how we want to be spending our time.
We move through our days and some even their whole lives
with the vision of how we should be living,
the job we should have,
the timeline of life events that we should be following.
And when those things we, quote-unquote, should be doing,
don't align with what we really want,
that causes internal tension.
How often do we pause to consider
how that tension affects our connection to and our acceptance of ourselves.
You see, you honor yourself by prioritizing your own needs and desires.
When our core values align with our actions, life feels free, easy, and relaxed.
We tend to be more curious, curious about ourselves, about the world around us.
The world is constantly evolving, and so are we.
we don't know how our lives will unfold.
Open-mindedness and curiosity
open the gates for us to find who we're meant to be.
But when our minds are closed to this natural evolution,
both around us and in us,
when we aren't curious about ourselves
and our own needs and desires,
when we aren't acting in alignment with our values,
that's when life feels tense,
internal battles, guilt, and shame,
become the results.
And that tension is limiting the evolution of the self.
We can usually feel it in our body when something isn't right for us,
and I'm sure you've felt that before,
like your body is rejecting something.
This can be especially difficult and confusing
if you're used to living with that internal tension.
At some point or another,
most of us learn to cope with the tension we've been living with for so long,
because our brains go towards what's familiar,
not necessarily what feels good.
We find it easier to choose a path that's been laid out for us
than to create our own.
And let's be honest about it.
There is always a balance to strike between these two things.
Maybe you would prefer to live life a little easier
and not trailblaze your own path.
Or maybe you just don't feel like trailblazing today
or this month, that is completely reasonable.
But if you choose that, know that you're sacrificing a feeling of true self-acceptance.
And that may be a sacrifice you're willing to make for now,
but it might not be one you're willing to make forever.
My friend, no one is free from the pressures of conformity.
It takes real courage to stand up and live in line with our core values.
values, to resist the tension and the constant pool to be what others want us to be.
But when we have the courage to be our true selves, not only does it feel great, but amazing
things begin to happen. We find our voice, our purpose, our reason for being. We inspire
others to do the same. We make the world a better place simply by being who we are. So I urge you
today, don't be afraid to be your true self. Don't let the world tell you who you should be,
what you should do, or how you should live. Follow your heart, your intuition, your inner voice.
embrace your unique talents, passions, and perspectives.
Live in line with your core values and trust that everything else will fall into place if you do.
Be willing to take risks and to make changes to your life to honor the great person you already are
and the greater person you could become.
If you can do these things, the internal tension,
and the battles you have to face with yourself will begin to dissolve and disappear.
It can be a tough path because that tension you're used to coping with is familiar.
There is a sense of safety with it because you know what you're going to get.
You already know the battle that you're facing, while the battle to be the true you represents a new and unknown foe.
but with a sense of curiosity towards yourself,
you will soon realize there is no battle to be had with yourself.
And if you ever feel lost or unsure on that path of self-discovery,
remember that you are not alone.
We are all on this journey together,
each of us searching for our own truth.
So my friend, stop worrying so much about what everyone,
else says you should be. Listen to yourself and relax into the true you. Well, my friend,
that's all for today. I hope you're feeling excited and inspired to engage in a journey of
self-discovery because I'm sure it's a path that will lead to your own happiness. And that's
something I would love to see. If you enjoyed this episode, then let me ask you,
you a quick favor, and that's to leave a rating and review of Wake Me Up on Apple Podcasts
or Spotify. These things really help to spread the show, and it would mean a lot to me.
But that's all I've got for now. I'll be back tomorrow for this week's meditation, and which
we'll be putting these ideas into practice. I can't wait to see you there, and until then,
go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
