Welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made. And as always, I'm your host, Tyler. This week, we've been talking about the concept of savoring life. In my personal view, life is meant to be savored. And I don't really have anything to prove. that. But we all have the mental capacity to do it, and it makes life so much better. So why wouldn't we?
Starting point is 00:00:42 In this motivational bit, we'll look at ways to savor some of the more difficult aspects of life so that you can find something enjoyable in everything. Now, wherever you are and whatever you're doing, just pause for a moment. Savor just a few seconds of peace and quiet all to yourself. Maybe this is your only chance for a personal moment all day. So just sit here with yourself and appreciate it. Now take a deep breath in and fill up with appreciation for this moment of peace and quiet. And then slowly release. Once more, inhale, fill all the way up.
Starting point is 00:01:49 And then exhale, release. Great. Now, feel free to go about your morning. Make your coffee or have a stretch, do whatever you like to do. And while you do that, let's talk about ways to savor anything and everything, even the tough stuff. You see, when things are good, it's often easier to savor them. Joy and happiness are things we don't typically turn away from. But when things are going good, time often seems to fly by, and we don't.
Starting point is 00:02:32 pay attention to savoring the moment. So by pausing and intentionally enjoying those good moments, we can allow that happiness to sink in even deeper. We can really feel it and enjoy it even more. And then that feeling will last with us much longer. Nobody likes it when things turn sour, but we can still keep the savoring approach and make it a little bit better. As I've said, there's always something worthwhile in everything. So when times are tough, try to savor the opportunity that presents. It's an opportunity to learn from mistakes,
Starting point is 00:03:15 a chance to practice resilience. These are wildly helpful skills in life, and like all skills, they have to be practiced. That means we have to make mistakes, and we have to endure tough times in order to become smarter and more resilient. Another thing that we often want to overlook is boredom. It can feel like, well, a real bore.
Starting point is 00:03:43 But boredom means you have free time, a chance to relax and unwind. And that is a freedom many people don't have. In fact, I bet we have all had moments in life where we would trade all of our hassles and to-dos for some boredom. So when you are bored, Try to savor that downtime, that freedom to do whatever you want. Another thing that can be really tough to enjoy is loneliness.
Starting point is 00:04:12 And what loneliness looks and feels like varies from person to person. But regardless of whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, there is still something to cherish in loneliness. And that is the gift of space. How many times have you been surrounded by people constantly? and all you want is a little personal time. Well, in moments when you're alone, that's what you've got. And just like boredom, there is a true freedom in being alone.
Starting point is 00:04:46 You can do what you want, and you don't have to give in to the wishes and desires of other people. Although loneliness isn't something we want to stick around for a long time, this just goes to show that it can be enjoyable and worth savoring. I've tried to do a bit of savoring myself, especially over this summer. And one thing I've found with it is that I often want the opposite of what's going on in my life at the moment. When I'm bored, I want to be busy and surrounded by friends. And when I've spent a bunch of time with other people, I want to be alone and do what I want. This is one of those conundrums about life.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And savoring can really help with that because it allows us to extend the positive aspects of everything. So do you believe me now that you can find something to savor in everything? Even in the most sour of moments, I promise you can always find something sweet. So my friends, I encourage you to savor this day and every day. Savor the gift of life
Starting point is 00:06:04 and the opportunities that you can seize. Savor the companionship of a good friend. savor the comfort of your own bed and the feeling of your own home, a place that's all yours. Savor the sun because it brings warmth and outdoor fun. But savor the rain too because it keeps you refreshed and hydrated. Savor those who believe in you for their love and support. But don't forget to savor those who dismiss you too, because they put the fire in your heart.
Starting point is 00:06:45 When you've got something to celebrate, try to slow down and savor that reward because it won't last forever. You've earned it after a job well done, so don't let it slip past. When someone frustrates you, savor the chance to practice patience. And when times are bad,
Starting point is 00:07:07 savor the strength that you're building. In every situation, life throws your way. Try to find something to savor, because it all comes back to this. Life is a fleeting opportunity. Time is your most valuable resource. You can do anything, but you can't do everything. You've got to choose, and that means we're going to miss out on certain things. So savor the moments that you do get.
Starting point is 00:07:41 whether they're trials and tribulations or joys and jubilations, they are all part of the gift of life. Well, that's all for this episode. Thank you for tuning in this week and joining me here. It really means the world to me. Every single episode I make, I savor your presence. So thank you. I'll talk to you soon.
Starting point is 00:08:10 And until then, go out. Have an absolutely fantastic day and make sure that you savor it.
