Now before our episode begins, here's a quick word from our sponsors.
Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up. As usual, I'm Tyler, your host. And as always,
I'm so glad to have you here with me.
This week, we're talking about the importance of showing up.
As Woody Allen once said, 80% of success is just showing up, and there's a ton of truth to that.
Simply getting started and being consistent are the hardest barriers to break through
when it comes to pretty much anything in life.
So today and throughout the rest of this week, we're going to talk about.
about showing up, what it really means, and how we can use it as leverage or a springboard
to reach our goals. By the end of this episode, I'm sure that you're going to be inspired and
motivated to kick any procrastination to the curb and finally get started or keep going at whatever
it is you're chasing. But before we dive in, just take one moment to pause.
choose to show up just for yourself for just a minute or two.
Notice how you're feeling whether you're full of energy, a bit tired,
stressed, calm, anything.
Now let's take three deep breaths.
So inhale, fill all the way up, hold at the top,
and then exhale, release,
Just let the air fall back out.
Again, deeper this time.
Inhale.
Hold and then release.
One last time, deepest one yet.
Inhale, take in a little more air at the top and hold.
Then release.
Just let all of the air go.
And if you're still in bed, use this moment to roll over and make your way up.
As we'll talk about more this week, the people who are the happiest, the most fulfilled, and typically the most successful, they're the ones who show up every day and live life in their own unique way.
So if you're still in bed, get up and get that small win for yourself, and you already have started showing up for your goals today.
And once you are up, feel free to go about your morning routine.
making your coffee or tea or breakfast, having a stretch or going for a walk,
whatever it is that you like to do.
And while you're doing that, let's talk about this idea of showing up and what it really means.
First off, let me just define what I mean by showing up.
When I say show up, it means do the best you can with what you've got today.
And there's a really important concept embedded in how I've phrasing.
that. Doing the best you can today doesn't mean grinding endlessly. It doesn't mean working all
through the night. There's balance in it. It recognizes that some days we have more energy than others.
Some days we may need to rest. That's right. Showing up sometimes means resting. And no matter
the application, the thing about showing up is that more often than not, we'll get something down.
And something is always better than nothing.
Showing up is more than half the battle.
It's really the hard part.
Once we get through that hard part of just getting started,
we often accomplish a lot more than we thought we would.
Everyone has great ideas.
Everyone's capable of great accomplishments.
Most people, however, do not have the long-term commitment to see them to fruition.
The key to that commitment isn't about most.
moving a whole mountain today.
It's about moving one rock each and every day.
Some days, you'll move a small rock.
Some days, you'll have the strength and the energy to move a big one.
In this journey, time is your biggest ally.
All you have to do is show up and muster what you can today.
That's it.
If you're training for a marathon, running one mile is better than running none.
Writing one page of an essay is better than writing zero.
Eating one vegetable a day will benefit you a lot more than eating none.
Progress is progress, no matter how we measure it.
And inevitably, some days will be less productive than others.
That's to be expected.
But we still keep moving forward so long as we keep showing up.
This is why showing up is really the goal.
because if you show up, you get started.
And if you get started, there's a good chance you'll stick around until your task is completed.
Even if you don't, a little bit is a whole lot better than nothing.
Showing up gives you momentum.
It puts inertia on your side.
There's a lot of things that hold us back from showing up, though.
Oftentimes, fear of imperfection or not being good enough,
stops us from ever getting started.
I'll use myself as an example.
When I first started this podcast,
my first few episodes weren't that great.
Honestly, probably the first 20 or 30 weren't that great.
But I know I had to start somewhere,
and I knew if I expected perfection from the very first episode,
then I would never be able to publish it.
But that fear isn't rational.
because if I made a perfect first episode,
then none of you would have ever found me.
Most of you didn't find me on the first episode.
You found me when I had made many more episodes,
and I'd gotten a lot better at making them.
Based on that, you can see,
showing up and being consistent is the key.
To be clear, I'm not advocating for all hustle and no rest.
In fact, rest is an essential part of success.
But there are times when we need to accomplish tasks so we can move forward.
There are times when pushing past the temptation to procrastinate is beneficial for our mental health.
It's all about balance, self-awareness, and the ability to self-regulate.
Your inner self will tell you when you really need to rest,
or when you should just push through for another 15 minutes.
Remember, showing up means doing what you can,
at that moment. Some moments will be more, some moments will be less. But it's only by consistent
action that you will reach your goals. Success in any endeavor isn't a mere stroke of luck. It's a result
of showing up consistently. When we show up, we build a mission-critical foundation for success.
We create unstoppable momentum that propels us to be a mission-critical foundation for success. We create unstoppable momentum that propels us
forward, even in the face of adversity.
It's in the act of consistently showing up that we develop resilience, learn from our failures,
and evolve into the best version of ourselves.
However, showing up isn't just about our own personal growth.
It has a profound impact on others as well.
Our commitment becomes contagious, inspiring those around us to follow suit.
By exemplifying unwavering dedication, we spark a collective desire for greatness and positive change.
Each time we show up, we create a ripple effect that extends far beyond ourselves.
And the more you inspire others to show up, the more they'll inspire the same out of you to.
But here is your reality check.
The journey to success is rarely smooth.
It's full of obstacles and setbacks.
So don't be afraid of being imperfect or looking silly.
Successful people make tons of mistakes.
They achieve success nonetheless because mistakes don't stop them.
They use them as learning experiences.
And look, we all need rest days.
In fact, ensuring you're well-rested is an act of showing up in and of itself.
My friend, every time you show up, you are one step closer to your goals.
Each instance of showing up builds strength, wisdom, and resilience.
Through consistent effort, we prove to ourselves and the world that we are capable of achieving
remarkable things.
So embrace the power you hold right now.
No matter how much energy you have, no matter how much energy you have, no matter how much
you're feeling, no matter if someone thinks you're too young or too old, no matter your financial
or other circumstances. Show up and do it for yourself because your dreams deserve to be shown up for.
And when doubt and uncertainty cloud your path, remember that success is not an elusive dream.
It's within your reach if you just show up consistently and persist through those challenges.
By doing that, your success is not a matter of if, but a question of when.
So go out today and claim the success that awaits you.
Show up simply by giving the best you can with what you've got in you today.
That's all it takes.
Come back tomorrow and do the same thing.
And watch as your life, your community, and your world transform for the better.
Well, that's all I've got for you today.
I hope this motivational bit has inspired you to show up in whatever shape or form or way fits for you today.
If you do that, then I guarantee you will be one step closer to your goals by the end of the day.
I'll be back tomorrow with a meditation that will help you put showing up into a balanced, healthy practice.
So I hope to see you there.
Until then, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
