Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm Tyler, your host, as always.
Friends, one of the main reasons people don't chase their dreams and make the most of their life is fear.
They're afraid they can't do it.
Afraid of failing.
afraid that the grass won't be greener on the other side.
But I am a firm believer that our greatest fears are largely unfounded,
or they can be mitigated.
You see, the people who do big things, they feel fear too.
They just learn to control it.
So today, in hopes of reducing your fears and encouraging you to get after it
in life. I'll motivate you to act in spite of your fears, drawing inspiration from lines of
Franklin Roosevelt's famous inaugural speech. Regardless of nationality or political belief,
these lines ring true through time, encouraging us to not sit idly while the chance to improve
our lives passes by. But first, let's take one minute.
to get up and start the day.
And let's do that with a couple of breaths.
So wherever you are, inhale and fill deeply into your belly.
Hold for a moment at the top.
And then exhale.
Just let it all go.
No need to force anything.
One more time now.
Inhale, filling even deeper.
Hold to exhale.
Now if you're in bed, roll over and make your way to standing up.
All right, now that we're all up, feel free to go about your morning routine.
You can make your coffee or tea, have a stretch, or go for a walk, whatever you like to do.
And while you do, allow me to be your morning companion, as I return to FDR's classic words.
You see, FDR took office at the lowest low of the Great Depression.
At his inauguration, he needed to spur and end up.
entire nation into action. Life had been really hard for several years. Everywhere, people were losing
hope. For the many teetering on the edge of survival, fear paralyzed their progress. And FDR knew
that he needed to break that fear in order to revive a nation. My friends, everyone experiences
fear. Those who do big things are afraid too.
The difference is that they know how to control and mitigate their fear.
It doesn't debilitate them.
As FDR said,
Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
Nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror,
which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.
He said,
happiness lies not in the mere possession of money.
It lies in the joy of achievement,
in the thrill of creative effort.
Those words still ring with truth,
almost a hundred years after they were first spoken.
Fear must not stop you from pursuing life with ambition and vigor.
Fear is just a tool,
a skill we've learned to mitigate risk.
Fear rises from our primal nature, our desire to avoid death by the surprise attack of a lion or a bear.
In current times, barring exceptional circumstances, the fear we feel today is nothing of that degree.
Consider your circumstances.
What are you really afraid of?
If you're like most people, you're afraid of failing,
afraid of embarrassment,
afraid of letting people down,
afraid of turning around on your current path
and taking a few steps back
to adventure down a wholly separate road.
And while you may have a reasonable desire for caution,
a protective instinct calling you to proceed slowly,
That is definitively not a reason to halt your progress altogether.
For as FDR said, happiness lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort,
and to achieve things that truly means something to you, deep down in your soul, you must risk failure.
You must risk embarrassment.
You must risk taking a wrong turn.
But all of these are temporary obstacles.
They're momentary discomforts.
They're not lions or bears.
They can be easily ignored or adapted to with the right mindset.
And these kinds of fears are certainly worth achieving that dream of dreams,
that greatest of inspirations.
To use fully the life that you have so unexceptive,
been gifted.
For if you pursue that dream relentlessly,
you cannot fail.
To squeeze every possible ounce of joy out of life is the dream.
And my friend, that is why the only thing you truly need to fear is fear itself.
Well, that's all for today.
I hope you're feeling inspired to go chase after life.
I'll talk to you soon
and until then
go out
don't be afraid of chasing your dreams
and have an absolutely
fantastic day
