Hey there, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm your host, Tyler, as always, and I'm so thrilled that you're here today.
Friends, one of the most meaningful things in life are the relationships we build with others.
And all relationships are different.
They fulfill different needs and desires.
It's so important to be able to see the role that each person plays in your life.
If we can be more aware of what each relationship offers,
that we can serve those relationships better,
both for ourselves and for the other person.
So this week, we'll be focusing on a theme of relationships in each of our episodes.
In this one, we'll dive into what it means to build better relationships
and we'll get inspired to do just that.
But before we begin, let's just take a moment to pause
and take a deep breath in.
Fill all the way up, and as you exhale,
think of one person who you really value in life.
What is it specifically that you appreciate about them
and send out a silent thank you their way?
just letting them know that you appreciate them.
Wonderful.
Now you can let go of this pause and return to your morning routine,
whatever that looks like for you.
And while you do that,
let's talk about how to build better, healthier relationships.
There's a saying I really love, and it goes like this.
All relationships come for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
Now let's break that down a little bit and make more sense of it.
The first part, some relationships come for a reason, that is to teach you something, to give you a certain experience or to help you through a problem.
Others come for a season.
These are your phase of life friends, the ones you hang out with because you're in school or work together, or you share a common experience with them.
When that phase ends, you may not see them that much anymore, and that's okay.
Then there are the friends who last a lifetime.
These tend to be way fewer in number.
They're the people you connect with and see through all of life's phases.
And each kind of relationship is extremely valuable and important.
None is inherently better than the other.
Simply by acknowledging the type of relationship,
whether it's a season, a reason, or a lifetime, we can better understand what to expect
from those relationships and how to nurture them to be the best that they can be. Our relationships
serve us in so many ways. Some people will challenge you intellectually, while others may
encourage your sense of adventure. Some you may bond with over a certain shared hobby,
while others may be the ones you prefer to do nothing at all with and just share each other's
company.
Being self-aware of the type of relationship helps us appreciate it for what it is and not
lament when its time has passed.
Most relationships don't last for our entire life.
Remember, everything is temporary.
So the value of a relationship shouldn't be determined.
by its time.
Instead, it's determined by the meaning and value shared between each other.
And we all know that sometimes things are a really fast, powerful burn,
whereas sometimes they're a slow burn.
So look at the relationships in your life honestly.
And that will allow you to enjoy the heat of the flame while it is burning.
recognize what you and the other person are getting out of it.
And if that's unclear or disconnected in either direction,
that that means it's time for a transparent conversation
in order to avoid a conflict.
And I encourage you to make the most of that reason,
season, or lifetime that you will spend together.
When you allow your relationships to unfold naturally,
you can more easily pave the path towards how,
happiness for both parties. So no matter whether someone is in your life for just a season,
a reason, or if they'll be around for an entire lifetime, be sure to appreciate everyone in
your life. It's the relationships we build that give life its true meaning. Think about it.
Building a business would be meaningless if it weren't for the customers you serve and the coworkers
you team up with.
Playing a sport would be meaningless
if it weren't for your teammates
and the people you're competing against.
Jokes are always funnier
when you have someone else to laugh with
and hard times are always easier
when you have someone to support you.
In the modern day,
it can be easy to become isolated.
To communicate with people
only through the curated experience of the internet.
But that's not real, and that's not very human of us.
We're built to be social creatures.
We're designed to care for each other,
to laugh and cry together,
and to challenge each other to be better.
So find a moment today to appreciate all of the people in your life,
every single one of them.
What fun would life be without the people who you enjoy it with?
Be grateful for them.
How lonely would it feel if you were the only one struggling with problems?
Appreciate those who you can commiserate with,
who walk the same road as you do.
What would you become without the people who are a little smarter,
a little faster, a little more adaptive.
You should thank them for sharpening your own skills.
And what meaning would life have if there wasn't an antagonist to your own story?
Whoever is your greatest rival, your greatest enemy,
they are also the cause of your greatest motivation.
That is a relationship in another.
itself and they deserve to be appreciated too. So today, my friends, take the time to appreciate all of the
relationships in your life. Look closely at the roles they play, whether it's as a teacher, a competitor,
a friend for now, or a friend for life. Value and accept them for what they are. They all bring
meaning and importance to your life.
And that's something to be truly grateful for.
Well, that's all for today.
I hope you enjoyed this episode,
and I hope it has you feeling inspired
to appreciate everyone in your life.
I know I certainly appreciate you,
so thanks for taking the time to be here with me today.
I'll be back tomorrow for a really lovely meditation
on this same theme.
I know you're going to love it.
so I hope to see you there.
Until then, have an absolutely fantastic day.
