Starting point is 00:00:28 Thanks so much for listening, and I hope you have a fantastic day. Good morning and welcome to another episode of Wake Me Up, the podcast, where morning people are made. As always, I'm Tyler, your host. Thanks for joining me here for the start of another great day. This morning routine is all about balance. Everything seems to be better when we're living a balanced life. But balance can be hard to maintain
Starting point is 00:01:03 for one reason or another. So today, we'll focus on finding balance and maintaining it in really simple and easy ways. Let's get going. Like usual, you can just listen to my voice, and over the next few minutes, we'll make our way out of bed and get the day started in a relaxing,
Starting point is 00:01:33 but energized and positive way. So go ahead and open your eyes, and let's take a couple deep breaths. inhale, hold at the top, and exhale. Let's take one more. Inhale, hold at the top, and exhale. Feel free to take a little stretch in bed. You can do anything that feels good for you.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Now, we can look at balance within a single day, but balance also happens over a week, a year, and a lifetime. You can see that in things like the Buddhist teaching of following the middle path. And there's really just two things involved in finding and maintaining balance. The first is self-awareness, right? Knowing how you feel now and what state you're in. The second is knowing how to correct when you're getting out of balance.
Starting point is 00:02:55 And that's really it. It's that simple. So while we're laying here in bed, let's give the first of those a go. And we can do that really easily by just doing a body scan. Just checking in with ourselves and asking, how am I feeling? How am I doing? So just try to listen to what your body says. It knows what it needs.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Start with your feet and just check in. See how they're doing. Then move up your legs, into your shins, your knees, your thighs, and up to your hip. And again, we're just checking in. There's no need to worry about it or prejudge anything. Just listen to the sensations. Now moving up your torso to your stomach, and then your chest. Checking in with your back.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Now move to your shoulders. Next, your arms and your hands. And finally, your neck and your head. Good, so again, all we're trying to do is collect a little information. All of those sensations you just felt, what do they mean, both for the individual body part and for your collective whole body? It doesn't have to be anything big. It could just be another day in your body.
Starting point is 00:05:04 Maybe you feel a little tired, or you could be full of energy. You might be a little stressed about something, or maybe you're excited about your day. I don't know. Each of us will be a little different, so make that assessment for yourself. So you can use that body scan pretty much any time to check in. It's a great way to keep track of yourself and your mood. Balance isn't a static thing. It requires adjustment.
Starting point is 00:05:36 So try to check in with yourself quickly at least a couple times a day. Now let's go ahead and get up and get this day started. Take a deep breath, roll over in bed, put your feet on the ground, and make your way to standing up.
