Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where Morning People are made. This is episode 12, and it's the second part of a two-part series on Beyonce, and how she used the moniker Sasha Fierce as a tool to develop herself into the star, know her as today. In part one, we looked into how Beyonce did this, and we developed some detail about the person that you want to become. Today, we'll take the image of your future self and use something called a swish pattern to start ingraining it into your brain. Now, the way
Starting point is 00:01:00 these morning routine episodes work is rather simple. Turn one on while you're starting your day, even while you're still in bed. And just follow along as I guide you through a refreshing morning routine that's sure to leave you relaxed and excited about your day. To have consistently great mornings, you really just need a regular morning routine.
Starting point is 00:01:25 And that's why wake me up works. By tuning in consistently, you'll become a morning person in no time. And I think you'll find that if you consistently win your morning, you'll consistently win your day. Now let's get started. If you're still in bed,
Starting point is 00:01:47 roll onto your back and open your eyes. Begin to wiggle your fingers and toes. You can circle your wrists and ankles. Just start to get a little blood flowing. And enjoy this moment of tranquility before the hustle and bustle of the day starts. Use this opportunity to refresh your brain on the version of yourself that you envisioned in part one.
Starting point is 00:02:30 The version of you five years from now. Living an ideal life. Bring those details back to mind. Remember what you were doing with your time, what you looked like, how you held yourself, and how you felt in that future life. All of those details.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Today, we're going to begin wiring that version of yourself. Quite simply, you will become what you put your focus on. You can call it the law of attraction or whatever you want, but the idea behind it is pretty simple. To catch its prey, a predator must focus its attention only on the prey. Similarly, to become the person you hope to be, you must focus your attention on doing the things and living the life that that person would. And doing that consistently over time will redirect you and put you on the path toward becoming that version of yourself. So this ideal life that you've dreamed of starts right here, right now.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Take a deep breath in and exhale. If you're still in bed, roll over on your side, place your feet on the ground and stand up. Take some time for a gentle stretch if you'd like and you're able. You can inhale and reach your hands to the sky, standing up all the way on your toes. And when you exhale, just fold over at your wheel. waist. Let your arms dangle. Let your head and neck relax and have a slight bend in the knees. We often become a little tight overnight, so just give your body time to loosen up. Now that you're beginning to wake up, let's take a few moments to transition to the meditation
Starting point is 00:05:15 portion of this episode. As always, you can grab a sip of water and make your way to a comfortable seated position. This one is going to take a little more time than usual, so I'm not going to chat too much before we get started. For now, I just want to say a couple of things. Remember how Beyonce used Sasha Fierce to allow a part of herself to develop, to come forward, but that part of her was always there. She simply needed to allow it to come out, allow it to be expressed.
Starting point is 00:05:59 And that's really what we're going to do today. So now that you're in a comfortable, seated position, take a deep breath in. And as you exhale, gently close your eyes. As usual, take a few deep breaths like that using your own rhythm. inhaling completely, holding at the top for just a moment, and then exhaling. And as you take these breaths, feel yourself draw inward. If you find that your mind is wandering, that's perfectly fine.
Starting point is 00:06:59 When you notice it, gently return your attention to the breath. Begin to slowly scan down your body. noting the sensations in each area. Starting at your head, moving down your neck, around your shoulders, and along your arms, all the way down to your hands, and then down your chest and your back, around your hips, down your legs, your calves, and all of all. the way down to your feet. Bring to mind the image of yourself, living that ideal life five years from now, and begin
Starting point is 00:08:46 to develop a picture of this version of yourself. Take the time to make it really clear and make sure that it's a realistic picture of yourself. It still needs to be you, just evolved. happened to the person in this image. Now that they've let go of old habits and taken on new and better ones, let those differences show in the picture. Now that this picture is becoming clear, turn the brightness up on it so that everything in this picture is brighter, is more vibrant and it's more real. And take another moment to soak in this image like this.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Now, let that image fade away. In its place, begin to develop an image of your current self. Again, keeping it clear and realistic. And be sure to incorporate into this picture how your current life and habits have made you into the person that's portrayed. Try to incorporate the notable differences between this current self and the future self you just visualized.
Starting point is 00:11:15 And with that image becoming clear now, dim the brightness on it so that it becomes a bit darker, still visible, but dimmer. Now, keep the brightness on it. that image where it is. And with the image of your current self still there, bring the image of your future self up just in the corner of your visual field so that your current self is still in the foreground. In a moment, I'll say swish. And when I do, allow that image of your future self
Starting point is 00:12:30 to burst through the image of your current self, bringing your future self to the foreground and doing away with your old self and feel the positivity and brightness of that picture of your future self. Now get ready with the image of your current self in the foreground. Ready?
Starting point is 00:13:05 Swish. Let that image of your current self. your future self, burst to the front and let that picture soak in. Now, we'll repeat that swish pattern several times. So reset the images, bringing the dim image of your current self back to the foreground, and sliding your future self off to the corner. Ready? Swish.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Enjoy the positivity and brightness. of the picture of your future self. Notice all of the details. Now, reset the images. Ready? Swish. Now we'll do it a bit faster. Reset the images.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Ready? Swish. Reset. Ready? Swish. Reset. Ready? Swish.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Swish. One more time, reset, ready, swish. And on this last time, your future self completely obliterates the image of your old self. Your future is brighter than ever before, more compelling, and more desirable. Now, let all of that fade away. Bring yourself back to your breath. inhaling, holding at the top, and as you exhale, just let everything dissipate, and slowly begin to come back to the present. Notice the room around you. Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Take one more deep breath, and when you're ready, open your eyes. Take a second here to collect yourself. So what we just did is called a swish pattern. It's a really effective technique for habit change because it allows you to see side by side two versions of yourself. And it teaches your brain which version to choose when confronted with a situation that conflicts between the two images. Now, what we just did is great.
Starting point is 00:17:28 but it's only going to work long term if you practice that swish pattern regularly. So I'd suggest coming back to this episode, at least for the next couple days. Ideally, you would do this pattern a few times a day for a couple weeks. It takes that much time to really train your brain on something. And when you're confronted with a situation where there is a conflict, between your current self and this future self you hope to become. Maybe when you're faced with a habit that you need to let go of. Try making the swish sound and quickly do this visualization in your mind.
Starting point is 00:18:19 That helps to train your brain to make those decisions automatically in the moment. But for all of this to work, you have to be open to turn. change and accept that you do in fact want to become that ideal future self. So that's what we'll do today in our send-off. In this final portion of the podcast, I share a bit of positivity to motivate you for the day ahead. And I thought the best way to finish out this mini-series would be with some affirmations to open yourself up to the possibility of becoming who you really hope to be
Starting point is 00:19:04 and living the life that you really hope for. And in line with our theme, some of these come from Beyonce herself. So if you have a mirror and you want to stand in front of it and look at yourself while you do these, that's great. Of course, you don't have to. wherever you are find a comfortable position roll your shoulders up and back and then let them relax
Starting point is 00:19:38 and you can repeat after me I love all of the versions of myself I accept who I am with open arms I am enough I alone set my self-worth I am worthy of living a great life. I am worthy of becoming an ideal version of myself. I am open to becoming an ideal version of myself.
Starting point is 00:20:42 I choose to become an ideal version of myself. I feel that now is the time to change my future. I choose to let go of old habits that do not. not serve me anymore. I choose to welcome new habits that help me become who I want to be. I already am my ideal self. I simply must let those qualities be expressed. Fantastic. You can relax now. And I want to leave you today with two final thoughts. As for the first one, Beyonce once said, if everything was perfect, You would never learn and you would never grow.
Starting point is 00:22:00 In other words, change takes time. It's almost never instant. Don't beat yourself up. Mistakes and bumps along the way are all part of the path of growth. Try to learn how to enjoy those bumps because they make the ride more fulfilling. Second, she also said, be happy with the beautiful things. things that make you, you. Everyone is unique. Everyone has something valuable to share in this world. That is the true beauty of life. So embrace what makes you beautiful. Who cares if it's not conventional?
Starting point is 00:22:55 And who cares if it is conventional? If it makes you happy, that's the only thing. thing that matters. That beauty you hold is invaluable to this world. So be it. Own it. And share it. Well, that is all for today. I appreciate you tuning in so much. And I'd love to hear if you enjoyed this two-part series. So send me a message and let me know your thoughts. You can reach me through the website at wakemeuppodcast.com. I'll talk to you soon, and until then, I hope you have a fantastic day.
