Good morning and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast where morning people are made.
And I'm Tyler, your host as always.
I'm so glad to have you here.
Friends, we all know that life throws a lot of different stuff at us.
And we all deal with different kinds of stress.
But whatever is stressing you out these days,
it shouldn't hold you back from making the most of your day
and the most of your life.
Today, we'll focus on easing any nerves you may have,
soothing your mind and body so that you can take on the day.
And let's start just by enjoying a moment to relax and chill before the day begins.
So take a big breath in,
and maybe stretch out in all directions too,
if that feels good.
And then exhale and just let everything relax.
Now let's put our day-to-day problems and stressors in perspective.
And you can do that by mentally zooming out on your life.
See this current moment, this day,
for the small speck that it is on the entire timeline of your life.
Consider if whatever is stressing you out now
will actually matter in a month,
in a year, in five years.
If not, that should offer you some solace,
that this is just a temporary discomfort.
We have tons of those in life,
and it'll pass just as quickly as it came.
If, however, this source of stress will matter in several years,
then all that means is it's important to you.
It doesn't mean it should debilitate or hold you back.
If anything, try to be able to you.
to frame it as fuel for your fire to show up and do your best. And speaking of doing your best,
there's a great day that lies ahead. Let's not miss another moment of it. So if you're in bed,
take a big breath in and on your exhale, roll over and make your way to standing up.
All right, now that we're all up and out of bed, let's take a moment to calm and warm up our bodies.
nerves and stress are not just something we experience mentally.
We experience it throughout our entire body.
And so a few light, gentle stretches can really help with that.
And of course, you should only join in these stretches if you're physically able.
If you want to do different stretches or you don't care to take part at all,
then I take no offense.
Do what works best for you.
If you are going to come with me, then stand up straight.
Relax your shoulders down.
Close your eyes for a second.
Take an inhale and drop your head over your right shoulder.
So that you feel a nice stretch down the left side of your neck.
On your exhale, roll your head forward through center and over to the left side.
So that you feel a nice stretch down the right side of your neck this time.
Inhale again here.
And exhale, roll through center, around to the right side.
We'll do this one more time.
Inhale and exhale, roll back through center.
And over to the left.
Inhale and exhale, bring your head forward, chin to chest, back up.
So your head is straight.
Fantastic.
Now you can open your eyes if they were closed.
Inhale and reach your arms towards the sky.
reach as far as you possibly can.
On your exhale,
fold forward at your waist,
let everything hang towards the ground.
You can sit perfectly still here if that feels right to you,
but you should also feel free to move around a little bit.
Bend one knee and then the other,
or sway side to side.
Experiment a little.
Practice relieving the stress in your own body.
All right, now take an inhale,
Slowly roll all the way back up to standing.
When you get there, roll your shoulders up, back, and down.
All right, great.
Hopefully your body is feeling a little more calm, a little more warm,
and a little more stabilized now.
Let's move to our meditation for today.
So find a comfortable seat.
Anywhere in your home will do, just don't sit in your bed.
Today, we'll keep it really simple with some breathwork.
And the point of this breathing routine is to make your exhale longer than your inhale.
When you do that, it's a very effective signal for the body.
It tells your body to calm down.
Just a moment or two of this can take you out of a stressed, anxious state
and put you into a calm body and a cool mind.
so hopefully you've found a seat now.
And you want to be sitting upright and supported.
But try not to force the position.
Relax.
Do what feels comfortable for you.
Take an inhale, fill all the way up,
and on your exhale, close your eyes.
Take a second just to soften into your position.
Relax your face.
Drop your jaw and your shoulders.
And all you're going to do,
is follow your own breath.
Breathe in for a count of four
and out for a count of eight.
And you can do that count at whatever pace feels right to you.
If you notice that your mind has wandered away at any point,
that's perfectly fine.
It's almost bound to happen.
Just bring your attention back to that breath count.
Four in and eight out.
It's time to wrap up our meditation.
So you can stop counting your breath now.
Notice your feet on the floor.
Notice the chair beneath you.
Notice any sounds that might be going on in the room.
And maybe you want to give your fingers and toes a little wiggle.
Just to bring some movement back to the body.
Take a big inhale.
And on your exhale, slowly open your eyes.
And just collect yourself for a second.
My friend, no matter what you face today, expected or unexpected, you are totally capable of handling it.
Think about it. You've lived thousands of days already. All kinds of things have been thrown at you.
All kinds of obstacles have attempted to block your progress. And one way or another, you've made your way through it.
You're here today because you already are capable.
That doesn't mean you don't have room to grow, more to learn, and greater accomplishments to achieve.
But it does mean that you can accomplish anything you put your time and effort into, no matter the difficulty.
It means that you can find your way around, over, or through any obstacle in your path.
It means that you are specifically designed to weather the storms of life and come out on the other side, stronger and smarter.
It's a funny thing that the physical symptoms of stressed out nerves and excited nerves are really exactly the same.
Sweaty palms, increased heart rate.
To your body, nervousness and excitement are the same thing.
It's the mind that twists it all up.
So remember that if you are feeling nervous or anxious or stressed about something today,
reframe that thought into something more positive.
Try to see it as excitement.
Your body and mind preparing for the thrill of facing a challenge,
a challenge that you are fully capable of accomplishing.
Well, friends, that's all for today's episode.
I'm so glad that you took the time to join me, and I hope you enjoyed it.
As always, I'll talk to you soon, and until then, go out and have an absolutely fantastic day.
