Hi there, and welcome to Wake Me Up.
I'm Tyler, your host, and this is the podcast where morning people are made.
We've all got baggage, stuff that we didn't necessarily ask for, but has been thrown
on to us for one reason or another.
We carry these things with us, into our job, our relationships, and throughout every aspect of life.
And though we shouldn't see our baggage as a bad thing, which I'll explain more about later,
we also can't expect others to carry our baggage for us, because, well, they can't.
Our baggage is our own and nobody else's.
But today, we'll see why our baggage can be our best asset.
Now let's go ahead and get started.
Begin this day, just like every other day, by opening your eyes.
And let's take a couple of deep breaths together.
So inhale, fill all the way up, hold at the top, and then let it all go.
Let's do one more, even deeper this time.
Inhale, hold, and exhale.
All right.
So if you'd like to do a light stretch in bed, then feel free to go for it.
Listen to yourself and provide your body what it wants right now.
And whatever you do, whether stretching or just laying there,
make sure you keep taking those deep breaths for the next couple of minutes.
Getting some oxygen moving through your body is the best way to clear up any groginess you might be feeling first thing in the morning.
And while you do that, I'm going to jam for just a minute about baggage.
We've all got it.
Stuff from our childhood, even stuff from yesterday.
From relationships or experiences that we've had, we carry these things around with us every day.
And I know that there are times when we can really feel the weight of our baggage on our shoulders.
It can feel like it holds us down, prevents us from growing, and keeps us from finding the enjoyment and fulfillment we desire.
As a result, we often try to throw our baggage on other people because we want some help.
And that's a natural thing to do.
to try to get a little help with the burdens we carry.
But my friends, nobody can carry your burdens for you
because nobody understands them fully except you.
And rest assured, I'm here to tell you
that your baggage can be your greatest asset.
It will only weigh you down if you let it.
We always have a choice in life.
The issues and struggles we face can fester and spread if we don't deal with them, if we try to run and hide.
But if we face them, own them, and learn from them, then we have no choice but to grow and conquer them.
There's a saying that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
And it's absolutely true.
but only if you face it and overcome it.
We have to accept that we'll never be able to get rid of our baggage.
But we most certainly can learn to carry it
so that it doesn't hold us back.
And even better, we can learn to use it to our advantage.
So as you start this day, make a choice
not to fear the issues of your past.
They are a part of you, but you are much, much bigger and stronger than your bags.
So instead of running from them or trying to throw them onto other people,
let's learn how to carry them so that they feel lighter and more like a benefit than a burden.
And that seems like a really great note on which we should get this day started.
So take a deep breath in
and when you exhale, roll over,
slide out of your bed
and make your way to standing up.
