Morning, and welcome to Wake Me Up, the podcast, where morning people are made.
My friend, there is a reason you woke up this morning,
and it's because the world needs you.
Yes, you specifically.
You have something unique to offer,
something that nobody else can provide.
Something about you is critical
to the balance and progress of the world.
So in this episode, we'll focus on you,
honing in on who you really are, developing a deeper sense of self-awareness.
Because if you don't know who you are, then you won't know what you have to offer that's so unique.
And then, I'll encourage and motivate you to own who you are, to be yourself unapologetically.
But before we do all that, let's just take a moment right now to pause before the
begins. Wherever you are, take a big breath in, hold it for a moment at the top, and then exhale.
Once more, even deeper this time, inhale, hold, and exhale. Now, think of something you're
looking forward to about today. Maybe you have something fun planned, or the weather outside
is pristine. It doesn't have to be anything big.
Just something that gives you a reason to get up and make the most of the day.
Wonderful.
Isn't it great to have a reason to be excited?
Something to look forward to in your day?
Well, let's not waste another moment of that opportunity.
If you're in bed, take a big breath in, and as you exhale, roll over and make your way to standing up.
Now that we're all up and out of bed, feel free to start going about to be.
your morning. You can make some coffee or tea if you'd like, do some stretches, go for a stroll,
whatever you prefer to do. In a minute, we'll start our mindfulness exercise for the day.
And though I do recommend you do that seated with your eyes closed, you don't have to.
You can make this morning into whatever you want it to be.
After all, this episode is about you doing you. You should explore what that
means. Try different stuff. Try to do the same thing in different ways. That's how I stumbled across
the morning routine that I like. As Socrates said, the unexamined life is not worth living.
When you think about it, truly the core of our adventure of life is the journey of self-exploration.
Who is the person you spend every second of life with? Yourself. What is the lens? What is the lens?
you see everything through, your own eyes.
This just goes to show that self-awareness is crucial.
And that's a perfect transition to our mindfulness exercise.
So if you want to sit down and do this meditation style,
then now's a good time to find a seat.
But again, you don't have to do it that way if you don't want to.
All I'm going to do is pose a handful of questions,
seemingly simple ones, but in actuality, they're rather complex.
Don't expect to get all of the answers right now.
Life is a journey of learning.
But the more you introspect, the more you learn about who you are,
and how to make yourself happy and thriving.
So, let's all take a deep breath in, fill all the way up, and slowly exhale.
If you want to close your eyes, now's a good time to do that.
Use this first moment just to take account of your body.
Notice how you're feeling.
Try not to hold on to any tension.
And for a moment, just tune into your own breath.
Wherever you are, the more you follow your breath,
the deeper and deeper within yourself, you'll go.
All right, now that we're settled in,
I'm just going to pose these questions.
and let your mind run with them.
There are absolutely no rules.
The point is to explore and introspect.
Who are you?
Are you good at?
What skills come naturally to you?
What do you like to do with your time?
Why do you like to spend time doing these things?
What's the main thing you spend your time on?
Does it bring you enjoyment in some sense?
If so, why?
And if not, why not?
What is the root reason for that enjoyment?
And if it doesn't bring you enjoyment,
consider what's missing.
If you had no constraints in life,
if every basic need was taken care of,
what would you spend your time doing?
Why would you spend your time doing this?
How would it make you happy or fulfilled?
And coming back to our first question,
Who are you?
All right, you can let all of those questions go.
Bring yourself back to your breath for just a moment.
It's time to wrap up this little meditation or mindfulness exercise.
So take note of whatever is supporting you,
whether it's the ground or the chair beneath you,
and notice any sounds that might be going on around you.
Take a big breath in, and as you exhale,
open your eyes if they were closed
and just use this moment to gather yourself.
If you want to be happy,
if you want to be successful,
original, remembered,
the only way to do that is to be yourself.
Nobody can live like you do,
and everyone else is already taken anyways.
Don't worry about fitting in.
The people we admire and idolize,
they don't fit in.
In fact, they stand out.
That's why we admire them.
Think about the molds that our societies have for us.
Think about the kind of life that most people are living.
Do you really want to fit in?
You are unique.
You have something special to offer,
and you have a way of doing it which is totally your own.
So believe in yourself.
and be yourself unapologetically.
Don't worry about what other people are saying.
Be you.
Do you.
Say what you think and feel.
The people who have a problem with it aren't worth your time.
And the people who are worth your time won't mind.
In fact, they will appreciate you because you are unapologetically yourself.
So many people spend their entire lives trying to be something that they're not.
Most of us do at some point in life too.
We try to fit a mold or be a certain way to appease others.
But if we live that way, we're living someone else's life, not our own.
So my friend, practice being your authentic self unapologetically.
The best thing you can offer to the world, the fastest path to your best life, is by just being you.
Thanks so much for tuning in.
